Director R.J. Adams succeeded in convincing all 21 missions to permit filming inside the churches. As a result The Missions of California is the only video currently on the market today that features the interiors of all 21 missions.
The re-creation scenes of Father Serra leading his holy crusade was a filmed in 1975 for a college documentary about mission San Juan Capistrano. The actor playing Father Serra was the director this film, R.J. Adams.
