Its a shame that many people don't know this television mini series. I have seen the German translated version but i don't know if its available in other languages than dutch and German. It is absolutely necessary to watch them in chronological order otherwise you will get (even more) confused. The music also is very precise and fits in perfectly. If you are in adventure like young Indiana Jones then go for it. I think of it as one of the best series ever made -not only for kids, because the acting is very professional- with real suspense. Franz the red only is worth watching. He is a pretty smart actor and surely every kid likes him to be their teacher. The story to me is a mixture of PSI and adventure sometimes a little bit overdone but very sympathetic (everyone dreams about mystery). Call it a Hitchcock Movie for kiddies. Hardly recommended! Watch it!
What a cute little series we have here. From the start I thought the acting was a bit stiff. It makes the first few episodes a little rough to get through. However, they're also very charming and intriguing already, which makes up for it and helps pull you into the story. A captivating story that slowly unravels the plot that eventually ends in a somewhat predictable but wholesome finish.
Tonnie Eijk has done an amazing job on the score and the whole direction and cinematography is amazing. I can't say much about a comparison to the book, since I haven't read it, but I do like the fact that there is very little supernatural stuff happening. Even though the series looks very much like a fantasy/adventure thing. This sure helps making the story feel more real too.

I loved this show as a kid in 80s Germany. There is this mysterious cross road with 7 junctions. I recall the youngster on his motor bike, who changed his personality and/or entire person frequently. Genius idea. A red headed teacher, the main protagonist, buddied up with his pupils regarding that strange cross road. After all, he was the foreigner who was settling in for a living. Rewatching it now, some plot points feel a little out of place. A normal school class would not be so overly curious about a teacher's business. When the main protagonist withdraws from that class, as an example, the class start revolving around him. That doesn't feel real. When I watched the show as a kid, none of that stuck out. Loved it.

Tonke Dragt's 'De Zevensprong' was an excellent children's novel, so it is only fitting that it was made into this charming and well-crafted series. The plot concerns the investigations of a school teacher with a fantasy-prone personality into the dark and creepy history of a nearby castle. A great script, excellent acting and a superb score by Tonnie Eijk.
De Zevensprong is a series that undoubtedly deserves a perfect score of 10/10. In my view, it stands as one of the greatest series ever created. The series excels in every aspect, from its compelling storyline to the outstanding performances of its cast.
The strength of De Zevensprong lies in its captivating narrative and well-developed characters. Each episode is crafted with care, ensuring that the story remains engaging and the characters continue to evolve. The plot is intriguing and richly layered, making it a series that can be enjoyed over and over again. This depth is one of the reasons I have watched it more than 100 times.
Moreover, the quality of acting in De Zevensprong is exceptional. The actors bring their characters to life with authenticity and emotion, making the viewer deeply invested in their journeys. The interactions between characters are believable and add to the overall impact of the story.

I think "De Zevensprong" is one off the finest pieces of TV made in the Netherlands in the early eighties. I was ecstatic when I found a DVD box of the complete series some 20 years after seeing the series on TV. At the time I believed that all kids in our little kingdom watched this series.,there where only two channels in the dutch language so all of my classmates..I mean every kid I knew at that time watched the series and somehow I remember there was a sense of excitement and secrecy/mystery when we talked about last nights episode. The Tonke Dragt children's book somehow creates a atmosphere in which children get the feeling that they are in on a big secret. this also worked for the TV series and most kids felt that they where somehow taking part in a secret society of children (watching TV) You just knew stuff that other people did not......you wanna know more....you just have to watch! I'm not the only adult with strong feelings for this series...there is a special website and lot's of people made the pilgrimage to the Old castle ( the house of stairs )or staircase castle Excellent messages in the story too. I appreciated the ending more as an adult than when I watched It as a kid. Use your common sense but also take in account that there is a little magic involved in living your live.
