Sir Alan Bates was offered Hotspur.
Henry VI, a Plantagenet, commissioned schools for the underprivileged, but Cromwell closed some of them down over rumors of degeneracy.
Henry VI was murdered in the Tower of London. There are memorial statues of him in schools he founded.
The part of Hotspur was originally intended for Alan Bates but he chose to play the role of Mick in Harold Pinter's play The Caretaker on stage instead which horrified his agent as he would only be paid £6 a week. Bates was adamant that he had to do the play because he knew Pinter's script was a masterpiece.
