Mithun Chakraborty and Salma Agha had previously starred together in "Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki". In that movie she played his girlfriend while in this she plays his mistress.
The film is a remake of Pakistan's 1988 Urdu language movie "Bazar-e-Husn", based on Premchand's novel of the same name.
Salma Agha reprised her role from "Bazar-e-Husn" in this remake.
Rajkumar Kohli need no rest, after release of Bees Saal Baad, the filmaker had started an action movie tittled Vidrohi (Gaddaar) with Mithun Chakravorty, Raj Babbar, Salma Agha, Meenakshi Seshadri,Sabeeha. Salma Agha at that time had acted in an Pakistani movie. tittled bazaar-e-husn, which was a big hit in Pakistan, so Salma Agha showed the film to some filmmakers, so Rajkumar Kohli had liked it and decided to stop vidhrohi for a while and started Pati Patni Aur Tawaif and after the release of this film Kohli decided to start a film wirh his son. The legendry pakistani singer Reshma during her visit in india, she sang a song for this film and also appeared in a scene on the srage. This was her second hindi film, the firsr was Subhash Ghai's Hero. In Pati Patni Aur tawaif. Kohli's discovery Sumeet Saigal had good role and acted very well. Rajkumar Kohli apeared twice in the film. After this film kohli then made films with his son Armaan Kohli.
