THE BREAKFAST is an Irish short film, a quirky little comedy that clocks in at just over 17 minutes in length. It tells of a school run by a strict Christian group where the kids are employed into helping out in the kitchens and cooking the chief guy his English breakfast every morning. The central character is the lad tasked with carrying the guy's tray up from the kitchen to his bedroom.
What follows is a surprisingly inventive little scenario that becomes a kind of battle of wits between the boy and his strict superiors. The central character is a funny, self-willed child who makes the best of his situation in a couple of gross-out laugh-out-loud moments. He suffers at the hands of the guy the breakfast is intended for, but in a twist ending he ends up getting his own back anyway. THE BREAKFAST is well shot, it feels fresh and inventive, and it's worth a look for fans of Irish cinema or short films in general.
