Featured review
The cheapest form of porn film is merely a collection of loops with some framing story added. The dumb premise of a couple getting aroused while watching porn in a storefront theater is trotted out here to nil effect.
I'm reviewing the strictly softcore version issued by Something Weird on Vol. 42 of its Dragon Art Theatre series (violating as often is the case that series' prominent XXX advertising). To be punished for my sins, I will someday have to sit through the lengthier Alpha Blue Archives edition, but I'm guessing it is soft too.
The budget for this junker looks to be in the three figures range, given that all we get is Sandy Dempsey and wide-eyed Richard Smedley sitting on a couple of folding chairs in front of a black backdrop. Prop budget consists of a cup of orange drink Smedley bought at the concession stand (off-screen). That's it. There is no attempt to suggest an actual movie theater, as they're in a makeshift grindhouse apparently, and no extras to represent the rest of the audience are employed.
What they watch consists of three overlong soft porn loops. Uschi Digard makes love to Phyllis Stengel in one of them, and a minor actor with an interesting set of credits, Michael Donovan O'Donnell, appears in the lengthiest segment as a Satanic-styled guy in a cape, before he gets naked and does his thing. His erection is shown a lot, but all the sex scenes are very obviously simulated, even in revealing closeups. Usually a softcore film will hide the fact that there is no penetration actually occurring, but in this loop we are shown in great detail that Mike's moneymaker never hits its mark.
Similarly, Sandy & Richard inevitably make love in the theatre, but don't come anywhere near XXX territory.
