Trimata ot Zapasa is a must see classic, not only if you are Bulgarian, but also if you love war movies. Brilliant acting, directing, cinematography and script, of course, are characteristic of this movie as well as of any other classic. What makes the movie unique, however, is the amazing completeness of the three protagonists, achieved through a tragicomic examination and interpretation, of their purely humane emotions. It is a movie which successfully depicts the simple pleasures of life, as well as the appalling brutality of war. Even though, produced in a small country, the movie features impressive war-action scenes. Also, I need to repeat that the cinematography at times is mesmerizing. My favorite war movies range from Apocalypse Now, The Deer Hunter, Idi i Smotri, Full Metal Jacket to Thin Red Line and Jarhead. After watching Trimata ot Zapasa, however, I have a new top favorite.
The path these 3 men walk to transform themselves from fools to real soldiers and heroes. At the beginning you have 3 fools knowing almost nothing about war, but through struggles and tragedies they become real warriors. Acting was on point, especially from the three main men. Great movie,
I recommend.
