Few celebrities have been as denigrated throughout their career as Pamela Anderson — and so a sober, wistful character study would seem the perfect vehicle for her to prove her acting chops. The former Baywatch star gives a quite literally glittering comeback performance in Gia Coppola’s latest, The Last Showgirl, a dreamy, understated ode to the underdogs of Las Vegas. After Mainstream and Palo Alto, Coppola jettisons her usual wryly humorous tone in favour of a more pensive mood. But the drama falls slightly short of being the heavy hitter it hopes to be.

Why Does George Clooney Want To Keep His Batman Movie Away From His Son? ( Photo Credit – Wikimedia )
George Clooney is one of Hollywood’s most revered actors, known for his demeanor, versatility, and performances in films like Ocean’s Eleven, Michael Clayton, and Up in the Air. However, despite his impressive filmography, one role remains a sore spot for him: his portrayal of the Caped Crusader in Batman & Robin (1997). Directed by Joel Schumacher, the film took a campy approach to The Dark Knight, a stark contrast to the brooding tone set by Tim Burton’s earlier Batman films.
Although Clooney acknowledged that the film was not well-received and even apologized, his role as Batman remains a talking point. Interestingly, the actor now actively avoids discussing it with his young son, fearing that it would ruin his credibility. Despite being a household name and an Oscar-winning actor, Clooney jokingly admits that...

It's no secret that video game movies have been risky propositions for most of their history, though that's changed in more recent years with successful adaptations of big properties like Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog. But back in the mid-2010s, the genre was still mostly wildcards bending toward box office bombs. Unperturbed by this, Sony decided to get in on the business with a handful of movies adapting major PlayStation properties. Specifically, two hit action-platformer franchises from the PS2 era -- "Ratchet & Clank" and "Sly Cooper" -- were put in development as animated films.
The "Ratchet" adaptation was announced in 2013, and the "Sly" movie got a full teaser trailer a year later. Blockade Entertainment, animation studio Rainmaker Entertainment, and director Kevin Munroe and animation studio were attached to both. The projects even had some video game pedigree in the form of Blockade producer Brad Foxhoven, who previously worked...

Ocean’s Eleven has turned into a cult-classic favorite among movie fans due to its ingenious plot, but more so because of its stellar ensemble cast. This is why when Bernie Mac passed away in 2008, it felt like the whole world shattered for George Clooney and his costars.

Mac played Frank Catton in the film trilogy, a discredited croupier and con man, who worked alongside Clooney’s Danny Ocean and his team of heist accomplices. The loss of Mac also affected the development of a planned sequel.

Today, Spider-Man 3 is remembered as a by-product of one of the greatest memes in pop culture history whereas for one of its leading stars, Topher Grace, the film is one of the greatest Spider-Man movies ever made. Sam Raimi’s final entry in his iconic trilogy did not stand the test of time but the same sentiment does not echo with the film’s leading antagonist.

Spider-Man 3 made Topher Grace stand out, becoming his first big movie role where he was offered a leading part as much as the first Spider-Man elevated Tobey Maguire in the industry. But Grace’s popularity was never able to rival that of Maguire’s and ultimately, the actor’s rendition of Venom was bulldozed by Tom Hardy’s beloved trilogy.
Even so, Topher Grace has no regrets for one of his career’s worst movie roles.

Garth Ennis, the celebrated comic book creator behind The Boys and Marvel’s Fury, has cast doubt on the long-standing rumor that George Clooney turned down the role of Nick Fury due to Ennis’ controversial 2001 miniseries. In an interview with Comic Book Herald, Ennis expressed skepticism about whether Clooney had ever read Fury and questioned whether Marvel would have adapted his R-rated take on the character had a film materialized.

"You trying to steal from me?" "Just protecting my family." The film is now ready to launch in March and will be available on VOD right away if anyone out there cares. It's a surprise sequel to Cash Out (from last year) which also starred Travolta as a thief. In this follow-up, master thief Mason is pulled back in for a big casino heist that he must complete in order to get the love of his life back from his ruthless nemesis Salazar. The Ocean’s trilogy has been one of the most iconic moments in Hollywood history. Both commercial and critical hits, the films have gained themselves a loyal following, one that’s waiting patiently for the next installment in the franchise. Starring Matt Damon, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and more, Ocean’s Thirteen was the third film in the Og trilogy and despite the fact that it has been almost 2 decades since it was released, we are still holding onto the hope that the heist comedy will return.

For five seasons, "The Bernie Mac Show" provided a hilarious and often heartwarming portrayal of fatherhood. The sitcom followed a fictionalized version of Mac, who still works as a stand-up comedian, but is thrust into fatherhood when he has to assume the parental duties over his two nieces and nephew. The premise is loosely based on real life, as Mac actually did have to look over his sister's kid for a little bit. But in reality, Mac was a proud father to one daughter.
"The Bernie Mac Show" has an almost timeless quality to it, whether it's the humor or the lessons learned. It was unlike any other sitcom at the time, or even today really, which makes sense when considering creator Larry Wilmore drew inspiration from French New Wave films like "The 400 Blows" when crafting the style. The show also featured Mac breaking the fourth wall to address the audience,...

Steven Soderbergh, the acclaimed director of Contagion, Ocean’s 11, and Traffic, has made a highly anticipated return to theatrical releases with Presence, a supernatural horror film that hit UK and Irish cinemas on Friday, 24th January. This marks the filmmaker’s first widespread cinema release in years, after a series of streaming-first projects.
Presence promises a unique perspective on the horror genre, being told entirely from the point of view of a ghost. The film stars Lucy Liu (Charlie’s Angels), Julia Fox (Uncut Gems), and Chris Sullivan (This Is Us), and has already garnered an impressive 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes following its debut at Sundance last year. With a script penned by David Koepp, the screenwriter behind Jurassic Park and Spider-Man, Presence blends gripping storytelling with the atmospheric tension Soderbergh is known for.

If you're only familiar with director Steven Soderbergh's take on Danny Ocean's (George Clooney) story in his "Ocean's" trilogy — which kicked off in 2001 — you might not know that the actual first movie centering around a guy named Ocean and a big Las Vegas heist actually came out in 1960. So which ones in this series are the best, and which are the worst?
I feel pretty comfortable saying that I'm going to ruffle some feathers with this ranking, and I'm fine with that. I love picking hyper-specific hills and then dying upon them; it's one of my absolute favorite hobbies. Still, with just five "Ocean's" movies to choose from — putting aside the rumored prequel with Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie as Danny's parents — it's a fairly close ranking, but there's still a definitive answer. Here are the "Ocean's" movies ranked from worst to best, and I guarantee people...

Judging by the final tease featured in the new movie "Star Trek: Section 31," Paramount+ isn't done with its squad of extralegal just yet. "Section 31" is a bit of a mixed bag, especially given how long it was in development, but the movie about former mass murderess Philippa Georgiou and her new squad of ne'er-do-wells works well enough as the start of something new — as opposed to the "TV movie event" it's been advertised as.
As an introductory chapter, "Section 31" works thanks to the strengths of its cast and the intriguing charm of nearly every new character. Does the movie borrow too liberally from familiar superhero dynamics like "The Suicide Squad" and heist movies like "Ocean's Eleven?" Sure. But it gets away with it thanks to the enjoyable novelty of its ragtag band of antiheroes, which includes a mech-suit wearing himbo,...

There's a tendency among TV and film fans -- or consumers of any type of pop culture, really -- to let past portrayals off the hook by defining them as "of their time" or as something that "couldn't be made today." It's one of the most insidious habits we have as viewers, and it's usually flat-out wrong. Marginalized people have been fighting to be represented accurately on screen for as long as visual media has existed. Bigot-led '70s sitcom "All in the Family" was considered network poison before it became a hit, lesbian readers were already sick of sad gay love stories by the '50s, and Disney's famously racist film "Song of the South" was controversial even before its 1946 release.

Brad Pitt has worn the face of many over the years. Be it classic characters from F. However, this wasn’t the case when it came to Jeff Buckley’s mother. After the Grammy winner’s untimely passing, his mother was trying to perfectly encapsulate his essence in a project that detailed his life.
While Pitt would have been the perfect pick to play the legendary singer, it would seem that things got too complicated between the actor and Buckley’s mother.

Back in September, we brought you the eyebrow raising news that Conclave director Edward Berger could be set to direct long-gestating heist sequel Ocean's 14. But, as you may recall, at the time we did advise taking about a shovel's worth of salt with Deadline's reporting as it was very early doors in the negotiation process. And it's just as well that we did, because Deadline's latest update is a real bad news, good news situation. The bad news is Berger won't be masterminding Danny Ocean's big screen comeback; the good news is that John Wick co-creator and The Fall Guy filmmaker David Leitch might be.
According to Deadline, whose sources confirm an initial exclusive from hit-and-miss Hollywood scooper Jeff Sneider, Leitch is in early talks to direct the fourth film in the mainline Ocean's franchise, which would also mark the first not to be helmed by Steven Soderbergh.

“The Fall Guy” and “Deadpool 2” director David Leitch is in talks to direct “Ocean’s 14” for Warner Bros. Discovery, according to an insider with knowledge of the project.
George Clooney and Brad Pitt are expected to return. The duo last starred in “Ocean’s 13,” back in 2007.
“We have a really good script for another ‘Ocean’s’ now, so we may end up doing another one. It’s actually a great script,” Clooney previosuly said. “The Fall Guy” and filmmaker David Leitch is in talks to direct “Ocean’s 14” for Warner Bros.
George Clooney’s Smokehouse banner is behind the fourth film in the “Ocean’s Eleven” franchise, so it’s expected the star will return alongside Brad Pitt, who collaborated with Leitch on “Bullet Train.”
The original “Ocean’s” trilogy, directed by Steven Soderbergh, featured Clooney and Pitt alongside Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Casey Affleck and more. The heist trilogy launched in 2001 with “Ocean’s Eleven,” a critical favorite and a commercial hit with just over $450 million at the worldwide box office, and continued with 2004’s “Ocean’s Twelve” ($362 million) and 2007’s “Ocean’s Thirteen” ($311 million).
A female-centered spinoff, 2018’s “Ocean’s 8,” starred Sandra Bullock as the sister of George Clooney’s Danny Ocean with Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Mindy Kaling and Anne Hathaway. The movie hit the $297 million mark worldwide.

In today’s episode, we’re pulling the curtain all the way back for 2013’s Now You See Me– We want to know how an all-star cast became master magicians and fooled an entire division of the FBI, all while performing miracles on lush Las Vegas stages. We’re going to discuss what the movie is, how it got made, and even why Isla Fisher refused to return for the sequels. We’re about to get into all of it, so let’s go.
The art of the heist movie is a delicate thing. It’s not enough to stuff a handful of celebrities in an extravagant location and give them a big bag of sexy money. You have to innovate. Give your team incredible stakes with minimal odds, while inventing a charming and witty dynamic between the characters. Oh, and of course, you’re gonna want that bag of sexy money.

Did Johnny Depp and Mark Wahlberg ask Ocean Eleven’s producers to get lost? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
When George Clooney and director Steven Soderbergh pitched them Ocean’s Eleven, the two A-listers didn’t just say no; they delivered a full-on Hollywood “f**k off.” Fast forward two decades, and Clooney claims they’re kicking themselves over that choice.
Speaking at the 2023 TCM Classic Film Festival, Clooney didn’t hold back: “Some very famous people told us to f**k right off. Mark Wahlberg, Johnny Depp. There were others.” That’s right, Ocean’s Eleven was apparently too slick for some egos back then.
And oh, what a mistake. The movie went on to gross over $450M globally, spawning two sequels and the spin-off Ocean’s Eight. With a cast headlined by Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Julia Roberts, it oozed style, wit, and swagger. Meanwhile, Depp and Wahlberg opted out of...

Materializing quietly into theaters a year after its 2024 Sundance premiere, Steven Soderbergh’s “Presence” marks the start of yet another prolific year for the famous multitasker with an affinity for digital cinema. But while the upcoming “Black Bag” seems poised to return Soderbergh to the more straightforward, populist side of his career—see “Ocean’s Eleven,” “Traffic,” or “Haywire”—one of the first 2024 premieres to be booted into 2025 finds the filmmaker operating in the other distinct lane of his career: that of giddy formal experimentation.
Unfortunately, as tends to be the case in this post-“retirement” era of his career, Soderbergh’s latest grasp at breaking new stylistic ground comes in the form of a film more impressed with the audacity of its own existence than pressed withmaking that existence meaningful. Though “Presence” is not one of Soderbergh’s myriad iPhone-shot recent features, the film may as well be little more...

Ridley Scott clarifies how Brad Pitt was cast in Thelma & Louise, sharing a different account than star Geena Davis. Released in 1991, the road-trip crime drama remains one of Scott's most-loved films, with a story that follows the two titular best friends, played by Davis and Susan Sarandon, respectively, as they run from the authorities. Pitt memorably appears briefly in Thelma & Louise as J.D., an attractive drifter, a casting that Davis has taken some credit for in the past. Davis has revealed that she read with four male actors in total, and that she enthusiastically chose Pitt.
In a recent interview with GQ, Scott addresses Pitt's casting in Thelma & Louise, revealing that parts of Davis' account are accurate. When it came to the final decision regarding Pitt's casting, however, the director reveals that he had already chosen him prior to Davis voicing her opinion. Check out Scott's comments...

Brad Pitt’s career is like an open invitation to a star-studded dinner party where every seat is filled with iconic roles, juicy scripts, and unforgettable performances. One minute, he’s the charming, smooth-talking con artist in Ocean’s Eleven, the next, he’s the tortured soul with an existential crisis in Fight Club, and in Troy, he’s not just conquering the Colosseum, but stealing hearts like a true Hollywood gladiator.
He has dipped his toes into every genre, from heart-pounding thrillers to intimate dramas, and made each role feel like a tailor-made suit.

No one can say that Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh delivers the same movie time after time. In an eclectic three-decade career, he has directed crowd-pleasing all-star vehicles, action comedies, political dramas, micro-mini experimental works, true-life story (“Erin Brockovich”) and even a film starring porn actress Sasha Grey (“The Girlfriend Experience”).
In addition to his Oscar success, Soderbergh has also found success bringing his singular vision to the small screen, winning an Emmy for directing and editing the TV movie “Behind the Candelabra” (which isn’t included on this list of big screen outings). He’s also been nominated twice as a director on “The Knick,” as a cinematographer on “Behind the Candelabra” and as a producer on “Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired,” “His Way” and “Godless.”

Making movies can be hard, unpredictable work, so it makes sense that, prior to beginning principal photography, many directors try to assemble a team of familiar faces and proven talents. John Ford frequently collaborated with producer Merian C. Cooper; screenwriters like Nunnally Johnson, Dudley Nichols, and Frank S. Nugent; and a whole stock company of actors that included Victor McLaglen, Jack Pennick, Harry Carey Jr., and, of course, John Wayne. On a smaller scale, you've got Joe Dante, who cast character actor Dick Miller in almost all of his movies, and Ron Howard, who's been finding small parts for his brother Clint Howard since making his feature directing debut with 1977's "Grand Theft Auto."
This cohesion gives film productions a sense of built-in camaraderie and purpose; it also conveys an air of confidence in that everyone working on the movie trusts this group of craftspeople knows how to deliver a high-quality picture.

Is Steven Soderbergh preparing to join the “Star Wars” universe? Or is he just a huge fan of George Lucas and Tony Gilroy?
The filmmaker behind classics like “Ocean’s 11” and “Traffic,” as well as the upcoming supernatural horror “Presence,” released his 2024 watch list last week, as he has done for many years now, sharing it via his “Soderblog” under “Seen, Read 2024.” Included on the list are a range of films, television shows, and shorts, as well as novels, short stories, and plays, but of particular note are his multiple viewings of “Star Wars” films across the year, seemingly sparked by his watching the Disney+ “Rogue One” spin-off series “Andor” from Tony Gilroy. Soderbergh and Gilroy are longtime friends and collaborators, the former having helped finance the latter’s “Michael Clayton.” They also did a commentary track together for Carol Reed’s “The Third Man” that’s really worth a listen.

There’s a reason we keep coming back to the heist movie genre, again and again and again. That’s because although most movies would have you believe that committing crimes is bad, we can’t help but respect a character who does it well. Robbing a little old lady on the street is unforgivable, sure, but robbing a wealthy old lady who keeps her hoard of ill-gotten money in an impenetrable vault surrounded by lasers and mercenaries? You gotta respect the moxie of anybody who even tries. And if they succeed, well dang, good for them. It sounds like they earned every penny.
There’s no shortage of classic heist movies, but with income inequality on our minds, and billionaires actively destroying everything decent about this planet every single day, the genre seems particularly alluring in the 21st century. Maybe that’s why we’ve had so many classic...

Why Did George Clooney Turn Down Noah Calhoun Role In The Notebook? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Imagine George Clooney playing Noah Calhoun in The Notebook. Hard to picture, right? That’s because it almost happened, but George himself put the brakes on it. In a shocking reveal during a virtual panel at the 64th BFI London Film Festival, Clooney confessed that he was supposed to play the young Noah, with Paul Newman set to take on the older version. However, George quickly pulled out. Why? He didn’t feel he could match up to Newman’s legendary looks.
According to Pop Sugar, Clooney shared, “We were going to do The Notebook together… I was going to play him as a young man. It’s funny, we met, said, ‘This is it. It’s going to be great.’” But after watching some of Newman’s iconic films, Clooney had second thoughts. “He...

The latest in a series of writers paying tribute to their go-to comfort watches is a recommendation of 1992’s satisfying con movie
To quote the late, great Leonard Cohen: everybody knows the dice are loaded, everybody knows the fight is fixed. That’s a cynical outlook, but one to which I fully adhere. Which perhaps explains why so many of my go-to comfort movies are about con artists.
Granted, not every classic con movie makes for a breezy watch – no one throws on The Grifters when they need a pick-me-up – but many do. The Lady Eve, Paper Moon, The Sting, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Ocean’s 11 – with their myriad twists and turns, hip earworm dialog, and stacked casts playing lovable rogues sticking it to the man, they prove endlessly rewatchable.
