And If Your Plans Don't Work Out?

A student glumly sits in the woodworking shop after school and reads the school newspaper. Why doesn't he ever get tagged as most likely to succeed? When the student who wrote the article tells him it's because he has no goal and no plan, he eventually comes around, builds a table, and conquers the universe. Or, at least high school. For what that's worth.

The Coronet educational shorts that seemed to be sold only to schools and the local channels that ran them right after the farm report seemed to have a series of them praising the dull virtues, promising easy and quick rewards by following them. I always thought that virtue was its own reward, that you did the right thing because it was the right thing and would not make you richer. But then I was always a square.
