Featured review
I was pleasantly surprised to notice this film listed on tv tonight. First was an hour's look behind the scenes on how it was made, followed by a two-hour presentation which is still ongoing. Ms Eteri Gvazava as Violetta is finely acted and sings wonderfully well, such a sincere performance! I've heard better tenors sing the role of Alfredo, yet Jose Cura carries himself very passably, and who can resist his youthful good looks. The originality of the photography is marvellous to behold in the sense that it is seldom static, constantly in motion so that you have the feeling of being a part of the scene too. It certainly makes for more interesting viewing. Does one discuss the plot in detail? Suffice to say that the ill-fated romance of Violetta and Alfredo was doomed by the mores of the day, and her struggle with consumption wrote the final verdict to her brief life. It's a beautiful and spectacular film, so do see it when you can.
