A spiritual successor to Road Rash that is set in a Grand Theft Auto-style open world sounds like an excellent idea, doesn’t it?
Well, as it turns out, an idea isn’t all you need when it comes to making games. If it was, I’d be a multi-billionaire that wouldn’t be talking to the likes of you right now. Unfortunately, Road Rage appears to be an idea with little else of substance behind it.
The concept behind the game is exactly as I’ve described. It’s motorcycle combat in a GTA-like world. An underground group of bikers in the city of Ashen have decided that the time has come to rise up and overthrow the oppressors that have turned their formerly booming homeland into a dark and murderous place. To do this, they’ll take part in a series of motorcycle races, elimination events, stunt challenges,...

"I think women love very hard," she said. "We love men. We just love with everything we have. And sometimes I don’t know that that love is met with the type of dignity that we wish it would be met with."
Perhaps, this candid answer is a clue as to why her engagement with Chicago Fire actor, Taylor Kinney, didn't work out after five years together.
"You know, we’re not trying to make you less of a man," she continued. "We just want you to love us as deeply and as wholesomely and as...

'Mad Max: Fury Road' poster with Tom Hardy as Max Rockatansky 'Mad Max: Fury Road' review: 'A good movie on its own terms' Mad Max, the first feature film of director George Miller and the second for the then 23-year-old Mel Gibson, premiered in North America in Feb. 1980. I was 17 years old, crazy about cars and revenge movies, and generally ripe for the picking. Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, followed in 1981, deepening devotees' affection for the character and his car. Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985), was the third film in the series and was equally anticipated, though it has worn over time. It co-starred the Silent Dancer herself, Tina Turner, and her current hit of the day, the name of which I cannot remember and don't want to look.* I saw each of them at the time of its respective North American release and relished in them all. Yet I...

Chicago – Road rage, parking fines and weddings are unlikely subjects designed to showcase criminal inhumanity, but “Wild Tales” – from Argentina – takes those common themes and provides some lessons on the breakdown of our civilizaton, in a momentous prologue and five stellar stories.
Rating: 5.0/5.0
Personally, this is the nominated film that should have won the Best Foreign Language Film, because of its commonality and recognizable expression. After the audacious prologue, the titles are shown over animals in the wild, which in actuality we still are, and still inhabit. The five “wild tales” (“Relatos salvajes” in its native title) highlight murder, deception, betrayal, ignorance and the bliss of “civilization” that results from all of these societal ills. Yet as a whole it’s not a downer, because writer/director Damián Szifrón adds the spice of dark humor and a strange hope at the end. We are the sum of all our parts,...

Argentine director Damián Szifrón is about to break out in a major way, internationally. His dark comedy-thriller Wild Tales, a collection of six revenge stories that he wrote and directed, reportedly received a ten-minute standing ovation when it premiered at Cannes.
The film features a variety of bitterly funny stories about ordinary people taking retribution on bureaucrats, their family and even someone with road rage. With their actions rooted in a misery that an audience can clearly understand, it is no surprise that this crowd-pleaser has been winning the approval of audiences worldwide, including those at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month.
Wild Tales also has a fantastic ensemble cast – North American crowds will likely recognize Ricardo Darin, who appears in the “Little Bomb” segment, from The Secret in Their Eyes – and a world-famous producer, Pedro Almodóvar. It has received stellar reviews in Szifrón’s native Argentina and...

1971’s Duel revved the engines of cinematic road-ragers everywhere and put many a vicious vehicle on the old highway to hell. What horror fan doesn’t love The Car, Christine, and Death Proof?
Those are classics. But what sets the Joy Ride film franchise apart from the rest is that it’s more about the diabolical driver and less about the terrifying truck. Which is not to say the big rig isn’t badass in its own right, but let’s face it: The 18-wheeler isn’t nearly as fun to chat with as actor and stuntman Ken Kirzinger.

Five new films open in Austin this week, but all have tepid reviews. But not to worry, film fans: For the rest of the year, terrific special screenings are piling up like presents stacked under a Christmas tree. (Or grievances aired around a Festivus pole, or whatever symbols are part of your holiday tradition, if indeed you have one, and it's fine if you don't. Whatever your holiday tradition -- or lack thereof -- the always-inclusive folks at Slackerwood wish you happiness. Or not, if you prefer unhappiness.)
There is, of course, the expected onslaught of holiday film screenings this week. The Alamo Drafthouse offers its usual eclectic mix of holiday movies, from the traditionally warm and fuzzy (It's a Wonderful Life) to the anti-sentimental (the slasher flick Black Christmas, with a live appearance by Margot Kidder) to Jette and Chip's favorite holiday tradition, Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle.

After a couple of days sleeping off my turkey coma, I found my way out to Spiderwood Studios for the third installment of the Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow series: Road Rage Drive-In which in previous weeks showed The Legend of Billie Jean and Wild at Heart. The November 24 selection was one of my favorite disaster movies, Twister, starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton as well as future stars Zach Grenier, Jeremy Davies and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
This year Twister turned sweet 16, and I was eager to relive one of its most intense scenes, set in a drive-in theater, while watching it in an actual drive-in. Unfortunately, the weather did not want to cooperate, and there were to be no thunderstorms this weekend. I found the setting wasn't quite as I'd hoped as well, though it was still an entertaining evening.

This weekend brings what may be the year's ultimate clash of cinematic titans: Steven Spielberg's Lincoln battles The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 for the hearts, minds and wallets of America's moviegoers. Which one will take home the box-office gold? I think we all know the answer. Which one will take home the critical acclaim? We all know the answer to this question, too. Which one will your teenage daughter see? Hopefully, Lincoln. (Tell her that those who do not remember the past are condemned to fail their history exams.)

The streets of Los Angeles promise to be more hellish than usual this weekend, as a crucial stretch of the 405 freeway closes down for what's been charmingly titled "Carmageddon II" (somehow, the wags who named it resisted the subtitle "Road Rage Boogaloo"). While last year's Carmageddon mercifully turned out to be a bust -- with Angelenos who'd gone away on summer vacation lightening the traffic burden -- this year may be different. [Update 1] Game Informer is reporting that Activision has not entirely shut down Radical Entertainment but does have it running at a “much smaller capacity” while they consider the studio’s future, including a possible sale of the business. Low sales of the Prototype IP are said to be the cause of the studio’s demise.
[Update 2] Activision has released the following statement concerning Radical Entertainment:
“Although we made a substantial investment in the Prototype IP, it did not find a broad commercial audience. Radical is a very talented team of developers, however, we have explored various options for the studio, including a potential sale of the business, and have made a difficult conclusion through the consultation process that the only remaining option is a significant reduction in staff.”
“As such, some employees will remain working for Radical Entertainment supporting other existing Activision Publishing projects, but the studio will cease development of its own games going forward.

In yesterday’s installment, we gave you a look at how Fox was working to create an all-gamer friendly Mmo in Family Guy Online. But more than anything else, the drive for the assembled teams working on the game appears to be getting as much fidelity to the show as possible. That means the extensive use of characters, locations, and voiceover from the show.
In this installment, we’ll look at how the assembled teams behind Family Guy Online worked to create a virtual Quahog—right down to details that weren’t even in the show—into this Fox Mmo.
If you were wondering how the Griffins would function in Fgo, the dysfunctional clan will be quest givers in the game and are voiced by the actors from the show. Peter, Meg, Chris, Stewie, Brian, and Lois will dole out story-based assignments in and around Quahog. And of course, each...

This week’s Mad Men opened in a driver’s ed classroom as Pete and some other students watched gory footage of auto accidents. The scene was an apt set-up for a John Slattery-directed episode in which the life of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce’s youngest partner was much like a car crash itself: bloody, likely to injure innocent bystanders, and yet mesmerizing in its horror. But Pete’s existential crisis was our Sunday evening entertainment, so let’s hit the gas on this puppy!

The fourth instalment of the Step Up franchise promises revolution on the streets – but its moves look strangely familiar
Taken as a whole, the Step Up series has a clear, classical three-act structure. In Step Up (act one), a boy and girl fall in love. In Step Up 2 the Streets (act two), the boy falls in love with another girl against the backdrop of an illegal street dance tournament. And then comes the thrilling denouement in Step Up 3D (act three), where not much happens but there's quite a lot of product placement and you have to wear some silly glasses to watch it.
This summer sees the release of Step Up Revolution (Step Up 4: Miami Heat in the UK). And if you're worried that the franchise might be running low on ideas in its fourth iteration, don't be. As its newest trailer makes perfectly clear, the film isn't...

Next year will mark 20 years of Ridge Racer as a series, with the release of the first arcade game back in 1993, and 2012 ends a six year gap between console entries in the drift-centric racing franchise (Rr 6 and 7 ushered in the new console generations for both Microsoft and Sony). Up until now, if you wanted to point out what distinguished Ridge Racer from other racing games on the market, it would be its closed track arcade-style racing, ridiculous drifting, and spokes model, race queen Reiko Nagase.

2012 will be the first year that GeekTrant will invade WonderCon, mostly due to the fact that it was moved down to Anaheim, CA this year which is right in our backyard. We're all pretty excited about attending this year, as we've heard it's a much smaller more intimate version of San Diego Comic Con.
WonderCon is set to open on Friday, March 16th and run through Sunday, March 18th at the Anaheim Convention Center. If you plan on attending let us know, and maybe we can meet up and hang out for a bit!
I've put stars next to the panels we are interested in attending. Check out the schedule, and let us know what you are looking forward to seeing most!

There are two writers that are essential to the development of horror both as a mainstream genre and it's place in modern culture: Stephen King and Richard Matheson. So, what happens when the former recreates a story by the latter? Furthermore, what happens when his son, the wonderful Joe Hill, gets in on the action and they turn it into a comic book? We get the brand new comic from Idw Road Rage.
Two giants of modern horror have taken a pretty famous story by Matheson, Duel, and updated it, how could you not get excited about this?
We know the story: Big rig trucker chases and runs down innocent motorists on a long stretch of road in the desert. Where is it different here, you might wonder? Well, it's about an entire motor cycle gang being chased by the crazed trucker.

This week, Idw Publishing released the first issue of Stephen King and Joe Hill’s Road Rage. We have a synopsis of the 4-issue miniseries, along with cover art and preview pages:
“The Tribe is more than a motorcycle club – it’s a family. Literally, since club leader Vince rides alongside his son Race, as well as fellow Viet Nam vet Lemmy and a passle of others. They’ve been together a long time, these two generations of riders. But never before have they seen the kind of trouble they’re about to run up against.
War is easy—lines are drawn, sides are chosen. But when the club is attacked on a lonely highway road by a trucker with unknown but quite murderous intent, their hard-scrabble existence becomes one of pure survival. And not all of ‘em are going to make it through.
