1923: Together with his wife and six children, Thomas Mann lives in financial security in Munich and enjoys his literary fame. But the growing power of the Nazis is dramatically changing the life of the family: they have to flee Germany.
1942-1955: The family Mann lives in exile in America. Fatal blows complicate the new beginning. Only at the age of 80, Thomas Mann visits his hometown Lübeck and dies in 1955 in Zurich.
