Summary for La Edad de la Violencia/The Age of Violence

This tale is supposedly based on a true story...

A clean-cut gang of 20-something youths are involved in petty crimes. When they are not stealing wallets or cars or riding motorcycles around town they are dancing and singing about their lives. So yes, this is a musical drama. And they sing well!

The father of the main gangster was once a wealthy respected doctor, but due to a terrible misjudgment long ago is now an aged alcoholic. He appears drunk and sad throughout most of the movie, noticeably without a singing part.

There is one good, handsome, youngster in all of this. He happily gets good grades at school and has a low-paying job. Somehow, in spite of his innocence he is also a good street fighter. The main gangster wants him to join their gang, which doesn't interest him. So he cleverly gets his lovely sister to pursue the good guy and convince him that a high-paced life of crime (and singing) pays much more than a menial job.

The good guy joins the gang because of his love for the gangster's sister. Of course, the love is genuine and mutual. The good guy starts to persuade the sister to leave this life of crime. This was not what the main gangster wanted!

The crimes that the youths commit are increasingly daring. The police are portrayed very sympathetically, and seem always to be one step behind catching the group.

In black and white. Available with English subtitles.
