Simmering teen angst meets social awareness in “Red Flags,” an Atresplayer Original created by award-winning author and playwright Nando López, whose novel “The Age of Anger” was previously adapted for television by Lucía Carballal (“Locked Up”) and backed by The Mediapro Studio (“The Head”) and Atresmedia TV (“Money Heist”).
The project features within the second annual Next From Spain Sessions part of the Berlin Film Festival’s Berlinale Series Market, providing a first look at anticipated Spanish-language programming from industry heavy hitters that include the series producers Atresmedia TV and Zeta Studios.
“’Red Flags’” is a teen drama that portrays with honesty, and without taboos or paternalism, the emotional life of Generation Z,” Miguel García Sánchez, sales director at Atresmedia, told Variety.
“The series fearlessly explores the everyday realities of four friends, delving into their experiences of loneliness, interpersonal interactions and their strong fellowship created through social networks,” he continued.

Shows of this genre bring back a lot of memories that allow the audience to stay on the edge of their seat and soak in the stories of the crime, which mostly glorify them. Fans determined that Natasha Romanoff's death in Avengers: Endgame occurred on Oct. 16, 2023, based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki's timeline and the heroes' time-traveling adventures. The Oct. 16 date is not official and was chosen by the moderators of the MCU wiki based on small clues and references within the MCU. They acknowledge that it is not an official date. Natasha's grave in the post-credit scene of Black Widow does not have birth or death dates to avoid disrupting continuity and the complex timeline of the MCU. Her death in Endgame was a sacrifice in the past for the present, making it more complicated than a single date.
Natasha Romanoff's death in Avengers: Endgame is one of the saddest moments in the entire MCU, but when exactly her sacrifice occurs can be a bit difficult to figure out. As she was one of the earliest heroes to debut in the...

Travon Free and Martin Desmond Roe have found their next act.
The Oscar-winning duo behind police brutality short Two Distant Strangers and, more recently, HBO’s Bs High, have teamed with Group Nine Studios’ former president Mickey Meyer to launch a new entertainment company titled The Unreasnble. The goal of the full-service media company is to develop, produce, finance and incubate stories that have had historically limited access to mainstream media.
“The work stoppages and battles we recently experienced and are still experiencing across our industry for fair and equitable pay and ownership of our work is a clear sign we can no longer adapt to the ways of this business,” explains Free, “but instead we have to adapt it to us, the creators, and that’s what we intend to do.”

For all the great gritty and realistic television that's widely available these days, sometimes you're feeling down and find yourself in desperate need of something that's just nice to watch. "Bob's Burgers," which hit an elusive sitcom milestone when they released a feature-length movie in May of this year, is a show that is nice.
The show follows the wacky Belcher clan, a family of misfits who run their titular diner. "Bob's Burgers" avoids some common tropes for animated adult comedies with its insistent optimism and the lead family's capacity for loving each other. It's not only the quality writing and dynamite voice cast that keep people coming back to order more "Bob's Burgers" after 12 seasons. People have developed a genuine love for the characters, who maintain a love for each other and a dynamic optimism despite their constant pitfalls. The family all knows each other as the freaks and weirdos they truly are,...

Sky Germany, the U.K.’s Channel 4 and super-indie Fremantle are backing a three-part doc series about the con, which was spearheaded by the mysterious Dr. Ruja Ignatova, who is still on the run from law enforcement officials.
“Crypto Queen” (working title) promises to shed exclusive new light on one of the biggest digital scams of the last decade. Produced by Tondowski Films and Derren Lawford’s Dare Pictures, the series explores the story of how self-styled lawyer and Bulgarian businesswoman Dr. Ruja Ignatova, dubbed ‘The Queen of Crypto,’ scammed investors out of billions of dollars in less than three years through her cryptocurrency brainchild, OneCoin.
At her peak, in 2016, Ignatova presented OneCoin on stage in Wembley stadium and hosted lavish parties in Dubai and New York, all at the expense of her investors.

After Portman’s 1994 feature debut in “Léon: The Professional” was critically panned upon release, as well as her turn as Padmé Amidala in the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy and later “Thor: The Dark World,” the actress now points out that these are among her most beloved films. And her work on films like the “Star Wars” prequels prepared her when “Dark World” became widely reviled as one of the MCU’s worst movies.
“I mean, I had it with ‘The Professional’ too,” Portman explained to Variety. “It was slaughtered critically, and now, despite having been in Marvel and ‘Star Wars’ movies, it’s the main thing people come up to me about. That and ‘Star Wars’ are two examples of things that when they came out, I was like, ‘Oh,...

Nigeria’s entertainment industry, known as Nollywood, has been thriving for years — it’s the second biggest film industry after Hollywood — but a truly international, mainstream hit in the orbit of a “Squid Game” or “Money Heist” has so far been elusive.
For a long time, that’s boiled down to a proclivity for insular stories that couldn’t easily travel beyond Nigerian viewership, combined with low production values. But all of that is set to change as Nigerian storytelling targets a more global audience, and streaming backers like Netflix direct resources into premium programming from the country’s top producers.
Netflix’s first Nigerian original TV series, “Blood Sisters,” embodies the market potential that’s in store. The four-part thriller comes from prolific producer Mo Abudu’s EbonyLife Studios, and you’d be hard-pressed to walk away from its explosive premiere episode.

Public relations specialist Gabi (Hampton) “was once herself one of those forgotten ones — and her crisis management team now make sure there is always someone looking out for the forgotten missing people. Bruce Willis has been very busy of late making films like they are going out of fashion. With at least a dozen releases planned for 2022, Gasoline Alley is the second for him with writer-director Edward Drake, after last year’s action-drama American Siege. Their third collaboration and the yet-unscheduled Paradise City is still in post-production and stars Pulp Fiction’s John Travolta. Perhaps all this high-volume VOD film-making provides an outlet for the Die Hard star to team up with ‘old screen pals’ again, while sharing the frame with new ones?
In gritty noir-ish crime thriller Gasoline Alley, Willis stars alongside Luke Wilson and Final Destination‘s Devon Sawa. However technically, Willis is hardly in it to warrant headlining status, something fans will be disappointed with if they are expecting a silver-haired version of cop John McClane.

The American Film Institute has set up a scholarship for women cinematographers after the death of “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. AFI is now accepting donations for the fund, which “aims to help female cinematographers build sustainable careers in the movie business,” according to director and writer Olia Oparina.
Oparina, who calls Hutchins “her closest friend” and worked with Hutchins on the 2017 film “Snowbound” told Variety in a statement, “From the moment I sat down next to Halyna in UCLA extension’s film directing class, I knew we would be best friends.”
“We moved to Hollywood 11 years ago — two first generation immigrants from Ukraine and Russia who didn’t know a single soul in the movie business. It’s “Squid Game’s” world, and we’re just living in it.
That was one takeaway from a wide-ranging conversation held during Rome’s Mia Market on Saturday, as top independent producers met to assess the state of international drama and explore how hit series like Netflix’s Korean phenomenon are rewriting the rules of the game.
From heated competition between new and established streaming platforms to increasingly complicated rights deals to skyrocketing demand for non-English-language content, it’s a landscape that looks unrecognizable from even just a few years ago. Yet that’s opened the door for innovation – and more opportunities than ever before.
“The industry is ripe for disruption,” said Erik Barmack, CEO and founder of Wild Sheep Content. “I do think the room for independent producers is only going to grow.”

Sigmund Freud would have had a field day with Dave Burd, star of “Dave,” the hit Fxx comedy about a white rapper on the ascent and his entourage.
Burd’s rap alter-ego, Lil Dicky, was spawned by — what else? — not only his own micro-sized genitalia, but also a tangled urethra which required several childhood surgeries, and apparently caused a lifetime of shame and humiliation, but also spawned an impressive ambition.
“I feel like my personality is the way it is because I was born with this abnormality,” says the 33-year-old, hard at work editing, scoring and mixing sound for the final of the 10 episodes in the show’s second season, set to air through the summer. “By default, I became this self-deprecating human as a coping mechanism, which is the root of my comedy.”

British filmmaker Scott Mann directed Robert De Niro in the 2015 action thriller “Heist.” The film was a critical and box office fop ($4 million at the box office on a $15 million budget), so no one could’ve predicted at the time the film’s greatest legacy would be an artificial intelligence that automatically dubs movies into any language. Mann and his business partner Nick Lynes unveiled their new dubbing company Flawless this week in a feature published by Input Magazine. The company uses AI to digitally recreate and edit an actor’s face so that his or her mouth movements match the dub, thus maintaining the authenticity of the performance.
Mann was inspired to create Flawless after he saw a foreign-language dub of “Heist.” The director remembered how obsessive De Niro was in the creation of the character, going so far as to analyze what cufflinks would be best for his character to wear.

Five years ago, I decided to become a 49-year-old student of Richard Lawson Studios in his Pdp 60 (Professional Development Program) class. I was the oldest student in his class at the time. While studying, I learned so many things about myself and my own points of view. I also learned that I am a storyteller and how storytelling has touched my life.
Raised in a mostly white neighborhood in Brooklyn, the same neighborhood that Chris Rock’s character was bussed to on the hit show “Everybody Hates Chris,” I learned the importance of having a Black voice and how to use the compelling truth of Black History in my work. Through asking questions and seeking knowledge of self, this became a burning passion.
First, I had to fall in love with myself. The little girl who was told in her third grade history class “You ask too many questions” and...

Exclusive: Jon M. Chu is set to direct The Great Chinese Art Heist for Warner Bros. based on the GQ article by Alex W. Palmer.
The studio is currently out to a writer who will adapt for the big screen.
Producers are Chu and Lance Johnson’s Electric Somewhere and Geneva Waserman of Conde Nast Entertainment.
The article follows a slew of museum art robberies that occurred in Europe, in which Chinese antiquities were stolen, chiefly those that came from the country’s old Summer Palace which was raided in 1860 by French soldiers. No one knows who the thieves are, but the works of art continually wind up back in China. Essentially, there’s a new generation of wealthy Chinese people who are collecting artifacts from the old Summer Palace. Is China’s government behind the art theft wave? The feature questions who gets to own art, and who gets to own history and culture.

Natalie Portman was just 11 years old when she was cast in “Léon: The Professional” by director Luc Besson, and her child stardom quickly rose thanks to films like “Heat,” “Beautiful Girls,” and “Everyone Says I Love You.” But for Portman, she knew that because of her age she was being portrayed as a “Lolita” figure, as she told Dax Shephard in a recent episode of his Armchair Expert podcast (via People).
“I was definitely aware of the fact that I was being portrayed … as this ‘Lolita’ figure,” she told Shepard. “Being sexualized as a child, I think took away from my own sexuality because it made me afraid, and it made me [feel] like the way I could be safe was to be like, ‘I’m conservative,’ and ‘I’m serious and you should respect me,’ and ‘I’m smart,’ and ‘don’t look at me that way.'”

An often overlooked Apex Legends character is due to finally get the spotlight in a future season, it would seem.

Thanks to a recent exchange between player and creator over on Twitter, however, it looks like that’s all about to change in the weeks and months ahead. Replying to one fan’s query of whether Bangalore will receive more lore development anytime soon, Apex Legends writer Tom Casiello responded...

Given the title of the film, you could be fooled into thinking that Scott Mann’s upcoming actioner Heist was a full remake of David Mamet’s 2001 film of the same name – alas, the reality is somewhat more disappointing.
Yahoo Movies has debuted the maiden trailer for Mann’s thriller. Starring Robert De Niro, Jeffery Dean Morgan and Guardians of the Galaxy alum Dave Bautista, Heist orbits around the attempts of two men desperate to rob De Niro’s crime boss, The Pope. Channeling the fast-editing and style of Ocean’s Eleven in the beginning, the trailer then switches abruptly to high-speed pursuit, with Mann’s actioner – originally titled Bus 657 – switching gears into all-out hostage thriller.
It’s a tense situation that plays out similarly to Keanu Reeves’ Speed only with less flair and even less Keanu Reeves, and the general feeling of been there, done that doesn’t have us too optimistic.

For the second consecutive year, Warner Bros. Pictures International has exceeded the coveted $3 billion mark at the international box office. This benchmark comes on the heels of the release of The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies, a production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, which surpassed $400 million at the international box office this weekend and is still going strong.
Nine Warner Bros. Pictures films have exceeded $100 million internationally, topped by Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar (with Paramount Pictures), which has taken in an astounding $467 million outside of the U.S. to date, and Godzilla (with Legendary Pictures), which has earned $327 million overseas.
Four titles – Doug Liman’s Edge Of Tomorrow (with Village Roadshow Pictures), Phil Lord & Christopher Miller’s The Lego Movie (also with Village Roadshow Pictures), and Noam Murro and Zack Snyder’s 300: Rise Of An Empire (with Legendary), along with the 2014 spillover grosses from The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug...

The Doctor and Clara wake in the company of two strangers and are quickly told they are to rob a bank. Everything is planned so well, almost as if the planner knows what’s going to happen, that The Doctor quickly realizes that this isn’t a mere bank heist, but a…

The Bank of Karabraxos is the single most secure bank in human history. A loyal staff, redundant security systems, and a guard dog that literally smells guilt in the customers. When The Doctor picks up the phone of the Tardis and suddenly recovers from a blackout in a strange room with two criminals, it’s too tantalizing not to move ahead with. Being chased by the bank’s security at all times, the quartet must breach unbreachable security, all the while...

With Frost/Nixon, Moon, The Green Mile, Matchstick Men, Seven Psychopaths, Snow Angels, Heist, and (deep breath) Galaxy Quest, there’s a likely chance actor Sam Rockwell has appeared in one of your favorite films from recent memory. With that array of performances, Rockwell has built up a filmography most actors would rightfully be jealous over. He has a political drama, a Stephen King adaptation, a character study rooted in science-fiction, and a David Mamet crime yarn all under his belt, but now he can add another genre to his resume: a coming-of-age summer tale. With The Way, Way Back, Rockwell plays Owen, that cool uncle-esque character every kid would be so lucky to have. It’s a well-known archetype with plenty of templates for Rockwell to learn from. Whenever I interview Rob Corddry, he always says that you and Leslie Bibb are the masters at knowing which movies to watch to prepare for a role. For...

Remember ten years ago when you would be in HMV looking at a DVD box set of something like The West Wing and then unfolding the twenty pound note in your pocket and wondering whether to part with all that cash for something you had never seen? You had just heard that someone somewhere liked it, but for that £30 you could get two films like Bad Boys 2 and Kill Bill volume 1!
These were difficult times my friends, and more often than not £30 would go down the drain and you would watch three episodes of whatever series it was and decide it wasn’t for you. Well thanks to modern technology and its mission to kill DVD, Blu-Ray and whatever other physical media dinosaur you prefer, this dilemma is a thing of the past.
Nowadays you can go onto Lovefilm, Netflix, BT Vision or whatever else and stream whole seasons of TV for almost nothing.

Last year’s Prometheus split audiences and critics down the middle, with Ridley Scott’s much-vaunted return to sci-fi in general and the franchise that founded his reputation in particular not going down as well (or at least as consistently well) as he would have liked.
You cannot please all of the people all of the time, but a box office return of over $400m against a production budget of $130m isn’t too bad and some critics actually quite liked it. With Scott deep into post-production on the star-laden “The Counselor“, this is as good a time as any to look back at his best work.
As always, other opinions are available, so hit back in the comments section if you think there have been any glaring omissions…….
6. Matchstick Men
Some might regard this as a left-field choice, but bear with me. Undoubtedly a genre shift for Scott, but...
