DocuBay, the streaming platform specializing in documentaries, is pushing boundaries with its latest original film “Bad Toys Inc.,” which explores the burgeoning sexual wellness industry in India.
The documentary, produced by Black Iris, plunges into the world of sex toy sales and custom products in a country often perceived as conservative.
Girish Dwibhashyam, COO of DocuBay, revealed that the idea for the film came from its content team’s research. “We were surprised to see the market size and the widespread social acceptance and new startups which have come up in the segment with custom products,” he told Variety. The company chose Black Iris to produce the film, citing its ability to handle the adult topic with grace and aesthetic sensibility.
Richa Sahai, director-producer at Black Iris, said, “Gender and sexuality has always been of interest because you get to go right under the skin and get the deepest insight...

Kristen’s already having a rough time, having just left her husband Andy (Patrick Brammall) at a psychiatric treatment center; he has no idea what’s going on but was found, his heart stopped after he injected himself rather than his daughter, as Leland (Michael Emerson) tried to brainwash him into doing. Charithra Chandran is not in Season 3 of “Bridgerton,” the British star has confirmed, but she has a range of other projects coming up.
Chandran, who is of Indian heritage, will produce a reality TV series based on ancient Sanskrit-language text the “Kama Sutra.” While the text was primarily designed as an art of living guide, many of the film and TV interpretations of it have focused on its sexual aspects.
“I’m working on a reality TV show, which is inspired by the ‘Kama Sutra,’ [for] which I would be just behind the scenes. I would just be producing obviously, not on the show,” Chandran told Variety. “The ‘Kama Sutra’ is actually an ancient Hindu text, but in the West it has this not-so-pleasant, or positive, reputation and connotation. And it’s about taking ownership back of things that belong to us and our culture, and actually showing the beauty and...

“I ought to be thy Adam,” says the Creature in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. “But I am rather a fallen angel.” It’s the basis for every mad scientist story: You try to create man and end up with a monster. Fuck around with playing God and see what happens. Poor Things wants to add a few what-ifs into the Prometheus-myth mix. What if the Creature wasn’t a hideous Adam, but a gorgeous Eve that enticed every man who came into contact with her? And, like Shelley’s existentially miserable reanimation,...

New Delhi, July 30 (Ians) Courts in India make a criminal swear by the Bhagavad Gita before he deposes in a case, or at least, that is what I have seen in films. The Gita, if one understands rightly, is the ultimate belief one can swear on to tell the truth. A criminal may still lie, but our judiciary and our films continue to repose faith in this holy book.
Since our film folk swear by the Gita, why won’t our Central Board Of Film Certification (Cbfc)? The Cbfc has passed the Hollywood film ‘Oppenheimer’ with a scene showing the lead pair indulging in sex while the male actor is shown reading from the ‘Bhagavad Gita’!
No, not Vatsyayana’s ‘Kama Sutra’, unless the Cbfc thought it is all the same!
I don’t know why the makers thought of doing this stunt, but, maybe, the Cbfc did figure it...

“Joyce Prigger: World’s First Billionaire Pornographer,” reads a marquee at the top of Minx‘s Season 2 premiere. Sure, sex sells, but that seems a mite fast, no — especially given the way things stood at the close of Season 1?
As it turns out, yes. The signage, as well as a fur-clad Joyce working the red carpet at a film premiere, is part of a nightmare Doug is having at the start of the series’ sophomore run. (A run, by the way, that might not have happened had Starz not swooped in to revive the comedy after HBO Max killed it.

One of independent film’s key players, Ray Price, died July 16 at the age of 75 from heart failure after a long battle with cancer, his long-term partner Meg Madison confirmed.
Talking to Price about movies, past and present, was an exhilarating sport that could take a while. He knew his stuff — no one loved movies more — but more than anyone during the great indie decades of the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, he was a respected innovator who thought outside the box. He began as an exhibitor in San Francisco and moved on to marketing, releasing, and distributing movies, leaning toward the outrageous in how he lured audiences to sample challenging fare.

Ray Price, a respected producer of indie filmmaking, died July 16 from heart failure after a long battle with cancer. The news was confirmed by his long-term partner Meg Madison. He was 75 years old.
Price launched his film career in 1972, managing the Berkeley storefront theater the Rialto, and went on to build with Allen Michaan Renaissance Theaters, an independent art film chain that became one of the largest (33 at its peak) in the Bay Area and was later sold to the Landmark Theatre circuit.
A tough negotiator and exacting exhibitor, under Price’s stewardship, Renaissance Theaters were renowned for redesigning marketing materials, from posters to press books — designs that fledgling distributors often adopted when the films hadn’t found success in other markets.
At a time when most top arthouse distributors focused on established auteurs from Europe and Asia, Renaissance Theaters exploded those norms by programming new American directors like Martin Scorsese and John Cassavetes.

‘History Of The World Part II’: How The Comedians Let It All Hang Out In Hulu Series – Contenders TV
As obnoxious as the phrase “cancel culture” might be, it’s not unreasonable to assume that some skits might not have passed the smell test when Hulu’s History of the World Part II was in development.
But David Stassen, who served as showrunner on the eight-episode series, said there wasn’t a single conversation where someone said, “We shouldn’t do this.”
“Everyone thought of the best ideas, and we worked on them,” Stassen said Saturday during the show’s Contenders TV panel in Hollywood. “Hopefully, the best rose to the top.”

Of course, in this day and age, that could get you in trouble: Many people think Brooks couldn’t get away with making some of his most famous movies, like Blazing Saddles, in today’s culture. Over 40 years after "History of the World Part I" hit theaters, a sequel is finally arriving in the form of a TV series on Hulu. Appropriately titled "History of the World Part II," the series follows in the footsteps of the legendary Mel Brooks by looking back at history with a contemporary comedic lens. Taking cues from the original movie, the series jumps around to different historical periods and events, such as the Biblical times of Jesus Christ, the unfolding of the Russian Revolution, the struggles of ending the Civil War, and many more. While some of the sketches are ongoing threads spread across eight episodes, there are also smaller bits involving Noah's Ark, Kublai Kahn, William Shakespeare, and Galileo.
What's great about "History of the World Part II" (watch the trailer here) is how it combines the classic style of Mel Brooks comedies with the contemporary humor of its creators.

We haven’t come to re-litigate the fiery ending of “Game of Thrones,” in which Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen rides in on her dragon and torches King’s Landing, behaving tyrannically in ways antithetical to the ethical character built scale by scale over the previous eight seasons. The Mother of Dragons comes to a shocking and lethal end, but House Targaryen still has narrative juice to be squeezed. The highly-anticipated prequel series “House of the Dragon,” based on George R. R. Martin’s “Fire and Blood,” is set two centuries prior, when another battle of succession roils the powerful, incestuous, platinum-haired dragon-keepers.
“House of the Dragon,” or “Meet the Targaryens,” has the girl power backbeat that drove previous characters like Daenerys, Arya Stark and Ygritte. Spunky heir Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen has the dragon-riding goods and inner fire to rule. However, in this patriarchal hierarchy, lacking a winkle weakens her...
