This great film is sadly obscure

This film portrays resistence fighters residing in France during World War II. They are a band of men, mostly Jews, who came to France from European countries invaded by Hitler in order to escape the grim fate of their co-religionists. Their story was hidden by the French authorities after the war since their heroism could not be attributed to the "French French". They lived the rest of their quiet lives in complete obscurity; only brought to attention by the discovery of a Nazi Era poster condemning "foreign elements" in the French resistence.

The irony of the rescue from obscurity of these quiet heros by a Nazi condemnation is bitter, but the film, lovingly made and respectfully presented is a great tribute to these great men.

This film brings both the history and the personal lives of these men to life, and teaches us all a lesson in political expediency that is difficult to forget.
