The last released film, written by Gulshan Nanda and the last released film of Ramanand Sagar, he concentrated on tv serials than.
B.R. Chopra used his influence to get Salma Agha signed for the film. He was good friends with Ramanand Sagar and recommended her for the film. But Chopra and Salma Agha had a fallout after Nikaah. Chopra claimed rights over the songs of Nikaah and took a legal notice out, that anyone (Salma) who was going to sing the songs of Nikaah, needed to take his written permission. Salma claimed the songs belonged to her and the entire country knew that. She decided to fight it out against Chopra. This is when Chopra tried to get Salma dropped from the film. Ramanand Sagar refused saying the legal problem did not concern him.
The film was initially titled Jogan.
Writer Omar Khayyam Sharanpuri claimed he was the originally writer of Deedar E Yaar and H.S. Rawail took his story. He had written the script for the film Salma. Fearing controversy, Prasan Kapoor paid him off to not go the media with his story. Just as they were nearing the completion Omar went to Film Writers Association and claimed that Deedar e Yaar was direct lift of Salma which he had registered with the association in 1963. The association contacted Prasan Kapoor and told him they were prohibiting him to shoot his film till the matter was cleared. Later they told them there was no similarity with Deedar E Yaar and Khayyam's script Salma. Prasan Kapoor stated he paid off Khayyam because he was harassing them and wanted him to leave. Finally the truth came out. Omar Khayyam and writer's association member Satish Bhatnagar were employee's of B.R.Chopra. Chopra was making a Muslim social film Nikaah and did not want competition from Deedar E Yaar. Chopra was attempting to delay Prasan Kapoor's film so his film would release first.Industry insiders insist that it was B.R. Chopra who instructed Khayyam to tell his sob story about Salma. Khayyam declared after his first attempt to film Salma in the late 60's failed, he registered his story and sold the script to director Raj Tilak in 1977. Raj Tilak paid 2 lakhs for the story, screenplay and dialogues. Raj Tilak then approached Sahir to write the lyrics for the songs of the movie. But after he narrated the story and song situation to him, Sahir told Raj Tilak the story was already being made by Tirupati Pictures (Prasan Kapoor).Sahir knew this information as he wrote the lyrics for Deedar E Yaar. Raj Tilak turned around and served Omar Khayyam a legal notice for selling the same story to two different producers. Omar was now literally on the run now. He went and approached Jeetendra about the problem. Jeetendra promised he would not make the script of Salma and make another script. But later on it was thru some distributors and actors he realized that Deedar E Yaar was indeed the same script as Salma. But it was people who insisted it was indeed B.R.Chopra behind the whole situation with Khayyam as the front person. Why would Raj Tilak, who was B.R.Chopra son in law, pay 2 lakhs for a 12 year old script. On top of that to a man who was on B.R. Chopra pay roll. B.R. Chopra stated he was life long friends with Rawail. He would never impose anything to stop the release of Deedar E Yaar. Omar Khayyam was simply the Islamic advisor for Nikaah and was not on his pay roll.
