A magnificent and accomplished work. All the elements of the film ... cinematography, direction, acting and lighting combine to create an air of suspense and empathy. Filmed entirely on location and in the original Hungarian language, this short has more emotional impact than many a 2 hour feature film. Go out of your way to see this one if you can.

In black and white and with production values less than ideal, film seems "of the era", as if you're really there in 1944. This neo-realism, along with a well-told story of human compassion in the face of personal danger, makes the film well-deserving of its Academy nomination for short film.
