Exclusive: We have learned that Henry Simmons and Joy Bryant are set to star in season 2 of OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network’s and Ava DuVernay’s anthology drama series Cherish the Day.
Production on the Array Filmworks, Harpo Films and Warner Bros. Television production will begin this month in New Orleans with the new season set to air in 2022.
Cherish the Day chronicles the relationship of one couple, with each episode spanning a single day. In season two, the rekindling of a romance is told — the love story of Ellis (Henry Simmons) and Sunday (Joy Bryant), who fell in love in high school but find themselves reunited in beautiful New Orleans. Ellis is a former basketball player who is now a single father of two, and Sunday is a vegan celebrity chef on the cusp of fame.

Christine Jeffs is set to direct Castle Rock Entertainment's "Wonderful Tonight" written by J. Mills Goodloe ("Pride," "A Gentleman's Game"). The story focuses on the relationship between a bachelor and a young woman who have a one night stand and are left with an unplanned-for pregnancy. This develops into a surprising love affair. Well, now that we know that...what's the point of seeing the film? It souds like "Knocked Up" all over again. Jeffs most recently helmed "Sunshine Cleaning," a well-received comedy drama starring Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, Alan Arkin, Steve Zahn, Jason Spevack and Mary Lynn Rajskub.

Duo to pen Disney's 'Volponi'
Writing duo J. Mills Goodloe and Sal Paskowitz have been hired by the Walt Disney Co. to pen Volponi, based on the life story of famed horse trainer P.G. Johnson. Gordon Gray and Mark Ciardi -- who produced the hockey drama Miracle, which is in theaters today -- will produce through their Disney-based Mayhem Pictures. The project will follow the Hall of Fame trainer, who overcame obstacles to win the 2002 Breeders Cup. Gray and Ciardi will produce along with Mike Rich, who worked with Disney and Mayhem on their previous collaboration, the Dennis Quaid starrer The Rookie. At the studio, the project is being overseen by vp production Brigham Taylor for production topper Nina Jacobson. Goodloe and Paskowitz are repped Untitled Entertainment. Goodloe is additionally repped by UTA. Goodloe wrote and directed A Gentleman's Game, and the duo previously teamed on August and Everything After ..., which is in preproduction with Goodloe set to helm. Rich is repped by UTA.
