First WWF PPV appearance for Haku since Royal Rumble 1992, who was a last-minute replacement for Road Dogg.
Haku (aka Meng) had only appeared at the January WCW PPV, entitled 'Sin', one week before this event, in which he became the promotion's final Hardcore champion.
Kane broke the record for most eliminations in a single Royal Rumble with 11. He eliminated Grand Master Sexay, Steve Blackman, Al Snow, Raven, Perry Saturn, Honky Tonk Man, Tazz, Crash Holly, Albert, Scotty 2 Hotty (jointly with The Undertaker) and The Rock.
Eight wrestlers made their first appearance in the Royal Rumble match: Jeff Hardy, Bull Buchanan, Matt Hardy, Raven, Perry Saturn, Tazz, K-Kwik, and William Regal.
In order to sell Chyna's neck injury to the crowd, Jerry Lawler got up from the commentator's table to see how she was, something he had not done since the Owen Hart incident that resulted in his death two years ago.
