64 star pieces can be found from answering Chuck Quizmo's questions. 15 more can be received by doing favors for Koopa Koot. 11 Star Pieces are found by delivering letters. The 1st, 5th, and 10th purchases from Rip Cheato in Toad Town Tunnels. The remaining 67 star pieces can be found in plain sight or are hidden in ground panels which require ground pounds or the ultra hammer pound.

Each area has 4 different routes but only one of them leads the right way. Look for slight differences in scenery near the correct exit, otherwise you will start over.

The Dry Dry Ruins are located at the North Center end of the desert.
To get there you have to first go to the Dry Dry Outpost town to find Moustafa. First you have to go to the Oasis in the desert which is located South East close to the town and hammer a lemon tree to get a lemon. Then you give the mysterious mouse a lemon, then you buy items in a certain order Dried Shroom then a Dusty Hammer,
Then you can go in the door and climb on the rooftop of the buildings and you'll get to meet Moustafa. He will then give you the pulse stone which will ring the closer you are to the ruins, once you locate the stone altar, put the stone in and then a cutscene with the Dry Dry Ruins will rise up and you can continue on with the game.

Mario will have 2 attack moves, The Jump attack and the Hammer attack. Use the hammer on enemies that have a spike or spikes on their heads or are literally on fire and use your jump on enemies that fly to bring them down or even flip them over,
Also be sure to equip your hammer throw badge at all times for enemies that are on fire or the flying enemies with spiked heads and Power Bounce to jump continuously on enemies. You can also equip badges including Chill Out, Fire Shield, Feeling Fine, Spike Shield, and Zap Tap to give Mario the advantage.
Your partner also can attack with their abilities as well, but be careful your partner doesn't get poked by spikes or burned by fire or they will be knocked out for a certain number of turns.
You can also use your attack items or the Star Spirits power Star Storm.
Also make sure you always have Mario buy and carry a Life Shroom as soon as possible, otherwise you risk getting killed and have a game over screen.

The Mysterious Treasure Chest is a two-way object that allows for one to make a deposit in one chest and be able to obtain the same object in a separate identical chest some distance away. If Princess Peach puts the item in the chest she obtained. That item will end up at in the Treasure Chest at Merluvlee's place near Shooting Star Summit where Mario can pick up and obtain the item.
There are 5 items total that Princess Peach can get and send to Mario including Power Rush, Deep Focus, Last Stand, Shooting Star, Jammin' Jelly if you win the 64th Trivia Quiz-Off.
You cannot get the Life Shroom in the Library and Mario will have to get it himself later on in the game.

You need to get 4 magical seeds that Bub-ulbs carry. They are located in Toad Town, Mt. Rugged, Forever Forest, and Jade Jungle. Once you get all 4 seeds planted, the doorway to the Flower Garden will open and you can continue on your quest.
You will need to get a stronger hammer to break those blocks, the first hammer can break the yellow blocks, the Super hammer can break the grey blocks and the Ultra Hammer can break metal blocks, also for the floor boards you need a ground pound jump to break through the wooden floorboards.
Also some of the question blocks that are too high for Mario to reach, he will need Ultra Boots to perform a midair jump to hit the blocks.
