Director/writer Matthias Dinter said that this movie was originally planned to be the third part of the "Bademeister"-TV-movie-series that he and co-writer Martin Ritzenhoff wrote. When it was decided to give the movie a theatrical release, the main characters were changed from lifeguards to ambulance drivers who serve their alternative civilian service.
