Writer-producer Brian Burns is having a busy development season with three projects set up at CBS and HBO.
At CBS, Burns is shepherding two dramas with his brother, filmmaker Ed Burns, both produced by CBS Par TV. The first is an ensemble about young arson investigators at the New York City Fire Department, while the second is a psychological thriller whose premise is being kept under wraps.
The Burns' father is a retired NYPD police sergeant, and the two had been looking to do a TV series in that arena that wouldn't be just another New York-based cop show.
They were drawn to arson investigators, who Brian Burns describes as "the fire department's version of detectives."
"It's a such a unique job that very few people know about, so it felt like a cool area for a procedural," he said.
