NBC seems to be happy with “Happy’s Place.” The NBC comedy starring Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman was given five additional episodes, bringing its Season 1 episode count up to 18.

The comedy stars McEntire as Bobbie, a woman who inherits her late father’s taverns, known as Happy’s Place. However, when she takes over the bar, she discovers that she has a new business partner in a 20-something half-sister she never knew she had, Isabella (Belissa Escobedo).

Was Happy’s Place originally supposed to be a Reba reboot and what happened to the initial plan? Fans have long wanted the Og cast completely back together but that has only happened via social media. So, how did the reboot spin into another series? Keep reading for all of the details.
Happy’s Place Originally Reba Reboot?
The Reba cast is still very close and they are not shy about how they created a family in the six seasons they were on air. In 2023, the cast got together to cheer on Reba McEntire when she performed at the Hollywood Bowl. Those who celebrated the “single mom who worked two jobs” were Steve Howey, Melissa Peterman, JoAnna Garcia Swisher, and Christopher Rich.
Reba McEntire-YouTube
This was essentially Reba’s whole television family minus Mitch Holleman (Jake) and Scarlett Pomers (Kyra). While watching the fiery redhead belt out her hits, they were asked about a revival.

Country music star Reba McEntire is back on network television in a new comedy series called “Happy’s Place.” The sitcom, which premiered recently on NBC, sees McEntire reuniting with her former “Reba” co-star Melissa Peterman. “Happy’s Place” centers around Bobbie, played by McEntire, who inherits her late father’s tavern. She discovers she has a long-lost half-sister, and the two must now co-own the business.
This unexpected family dynamic sets the stage for conflict and character development in the series. The show also brings McEntire and Peterman back together on screen. Peterman plays Gabby, a bartender at Happy’s Place, reprising a dynamic similar to her role as Barbra Jean on “Reba.”
Some critics note similarities between the two characters, with concerns Gabby may also come across as ditzy. An anonymous industry source said comparing Gabby to Barbra Jean is “a major problem” that could cause the new series to live...

If streamers are increasingly looking for shows with wide appeal — and they are — it stands to reason that TV networks’ best hope for success is making shows for audiences that aren’t just broad, but whose sensibilities are closer to hyper-normie. The few sitcoms that are even still being made to be broadcast over the air can’t be genre-straddling tone poems like The Bear: premise-wise, less is more. Happy’s Place fits the brief.
The show — which premieres on NBC today — should get extra credit for fitting nearly all its action on a single set: the titular Tennessee tavern. Happy, for whom said tavern was named, died just before the events of the series pilot, leaving the business to his daughter Bobbie (Reba McEntire), who’s already been running the place for many years. Just over 15 years after “Reba” closed out its six-season run, “Happy’s Place” creator Kevin Abbott reunited with the sitcom’s team to explore a potential “Reba” reboot series.
“I had actually come up with where the characters were at, where their lives were at [and] what was going to be the dynamic was some new characters,” Abbott told TheWrap, noting that executives were initially “very interested” in the idea. However, he added that as time went by and the industry consolidated further, the reboot didn’t move forward “for various financial reasons and rights reasons,” per Abbott.
“I’d spent six months doing this thing and been working on it and Reba [McEntire] was like, ‘well, let’s just do another one … we’ll do something else. I was like, ‘I don’t have another one in my back pocket,'” Abbott recalled. “So I called my wife [Julie Abbott] to complain...

More than 20 years after the debut of her hit series “Reba,” Reba McEntire has reunited with executive producers Kevin Abbott, Michael Hanel and Mindy Schultheis as well as co-star Melissa Peterman for a new multi-cam NBC sitcom “Happy’s Place.” Though this new show is unrelated to the beloved WB series, which aired for six seasons, it has the heart, fun and familiarity that made the early 2000s series such a delight. Though critics only received two episodes in advance, thus far, “Happy’s Place” is nostalgic, funny and heartfelt. In addition to an eclectic cast of characters and McEntire’s signature edge woven throughout the comedy, the Tennessee-set sitcom feels like a universal crowdpleaser about family, friendship and generational divisions while paying homage to past TV shows’ rhythmic beats and tone.

Sitcoms are back! Well, not really. But NBC and CBS are partying like it’s 1994 this fall and rolling out a pair of old-fashioned situation comedies that would’ve fit right in on a primetime schedule three decades ago: NBC’s Happy’s Place (premiering Friday at 8/7c), starring Reba McEntire; and CBS’ Poppa’s House (premiering Monday at 8:30 pm), pairing up Damon Wayans with his son Damon Wayans Jr. Both shows feature seasoned sitcom veterans cracking jokes in multi-cam yukfests… but unfortunately, both seem to be sorely lacking in the laughs department.

It has been announced that Reba McEntire will reunite with Steve Howey on her new sitcom Happy’s Place. The actor had previously been her co-star on her namesake sitcom, Reba. Howey isn’t the only actor to reunite with McEntire on the new show and more might be planned.
Some Fans Know Him As Van, Others As Kevin
Howey got his first starring role on McEntire’s self-titled sitcom, Reba. On the show, he played Van Montgomery, the ditzy boyfriend and eventual husband of Reba’s daughter Cheyenne. After getting Cheyenne pregnant while still in high school at the start of the series, Van’s parents throw him out, causing him to move into Reba’s household.
First appearing in 2001, Howey remained on the show until its end in 2007. He and Cheyenne’s actress, JoAnna García-Swisher, also appeared in the music video for McEntire’s “Every Other Weekend.”

The West Wing, Happy Days, Saturday Night Live, Reba and Schitt’s Creek were among the popular series to reunite their casts at the 2024 Emmys.
With NBC’s The West Wing celebrating the 25th anniversary of its series premiere on Sept. 22, 1999, the show’s stars Martin Sheen, Dulé Hill, Janel Moloney, Richard Schiff and Allison Janney took the stage in front of a replica of its Oval Office set. Aaron Sorkin created the program that ran for seven seasons and centered on the administration of President Josiah Bartlet (Sheen).
“It’s hard to believe that just 25 years ago, Aaron and the writers actually had to use their imaginations to create interesting plotlines for The West Wing,” Janney quipped. Schiff added, “Unlike today, where storylines can be plucked right off the news — storylines that writers would have deemed a bit far-fetched, if not utterly ridiculous, 25 years ago.”

Vance joke; and The West Wing, Happy Days and Saturday Night Live casts reuniting onstage. Below, The Hollywood Reporter highlights some of the night’s unforgettable moments.

Reba McEntire will be singing on Happy’s Place and revealed she is working on the theme song.

Reba McEntire starred in six seasons of her self-titled WB (later the CW) sitcom, Reba — but, for all of the 127 episodes that aired, it’s probably the opening 29 seconds that still clung on the hardest to popular culture.
“I’m a Survivor,” Reba‘s theme and a slightly tweaked version of a track of the same name she also released in 2001, endures on TikTok and Instagram where it is often parodied for its lyrics about “a single mom who works too hard.” So, now that McEntire is returning to TV with a NBC sitcom, might musical lightning strike twice?

A week after making its first appearance on the streaming charts, former Showtime drama Your Honor has rocketed to No. 1 overall.
The series starring Bryan Cranston nearly tripled its viewing time on Netflix and Paramount+ in the week of June 3-9, grabbing 1.53 billion minutes (vs. 544 million the week before) and bumping Bridgerton out of the top overall spot. Your Honor had its Netflix premiere on May 31.
Bridgerton, meanwhile, fell by about 42 percent week to week and finished with 806 million minutes of viewing — a figure that’s likely to go up in the next set of rankings, which will include the release of the Netflix show’s final season three episodes. It finished ninth overall and third among original series, behind Eric (926 million minutes of viewing) and Sweet Tooth (874 million).

There were no surprises on Nielsen’s weekly streaming rankings for May 27-June 2.
“Bridgerton” stayed on top for the third week in a row with 1.4 billion minutes watched in the second full week of availability for Season 3’s first four episodes, though the total is inclusive of both previous seasons of the show, which certainly continue to deliver strong viewership as evidenced by Netflix and Luminate’s recent charts, which separate viewership by season.
As such, the Top 10 was almost identical to last weeks. Only “Dune: Part Two” fell off of the chart — though it remained in the Top 10 streaming movies at No. 2 — and it was replaced by “Reba,” which didn’t chart last week but did the week before after being added to Netflix. And after the release of its fourth season’s second episode, “Evil” was the only streaming original besides “Bridgerton” — though it was boosted by the...

The rule of Bridgerton — and Shonda Rhimes — on the streaming charts continued into the first two days of June.
Bridgerton declined about 37 percent in viewing time from a week earlier, but the Regency-era drama still ranked No. 1 overall on Nielsen’s charts for May 27-June 2 with 1.38 billion minutes of watch time on Netflix. The series has claimed the top spot for three straight weeks since its May 16 premiere, with another surge likely coming when results for the second half of the season (which debuted June 13) begin to arrive.
Rhimes’ Shondaland also had two other entries on the charts: Grey’s Anatomy came in third overall with 1.2 billion minutes on Hulu and Netflix. Bridgerton prequel Queen Charlotte also edged back into the top 10 original series list, scoring 274 million minutes of viewing.

We have sad news to report today. It has been announced that Martin Mull, the hugely talented comedian and actor known for playing Colonel Mustard in Clue, Leon Carp in Roseanne, Gene Parmesan in Arrested Development, and more, has died at the age of 80.
The news was revealed by Martin’s daughter Maggie on Instagram. “I am heartbroken to share that my father passed away at home on June 27th, after a valiant fight against a long illness,” Maggie wrote. “He was known for excelling at every creative discipline imaginable and also for doing Red Roof Inn commercials. He would find that joke funny. He was never not funny. My dad will be deeply missed by his wife and daughter, by his friends and coworkers, by fellow artists and comedians and musicians, and—the sign of a truly exceptional person—by many, many dogs. Season three of Bridgerton ruled the streaming charts for a second straight week, holding onto most of its premiere week audience and racking up more than 2 billion minutes of viewing.
A pair of sci-fi films, Jennifer Lopez’s Atlas and Dune: Part Two, also had pretty strong showings in the week of May 20-26, and Max’s Hacks and Hulu’s Under the Bridge entered the rankings as they neared the end of their seasons.
Bridgerton had 2.19 billion minutes of viewing for the week, down just 21 percent from 2.76 billion for the previous seven days. The period drama had almost double the viewing time of the second-place show, Grey’s Anatomy (1.1 billion) — which, like Bridgerton, comes from mega-producer Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland. Kids’ favorite Bluey (1.07 billion minutes) crossed the billion-minute threshold for the 20th time in 21 measured weeks so far this year.

The webs of romance in Bridgerton easily captured the top spot among all streaming titles for the show’s return. Theatrical flop Madame Web, meanwhile, found a promising start to its streaming life.
Bridgerton drew 2.76 billion minutes of viewing time in the United States for the week of May 13-19. The first half of season three premiered on May 16, and Nielsen says those four episodes accounted for 70 percent of the total, or about 1.93 billion minutes — which would still have ranked No. 1 by a wide margin. The remaining 827 million minutes came from the first two seasons.
Madame Web — whose mom was in the Amazon researching spiders right before she died — premiered May 14 on Netflix and racked up 1.16 billion minutes of viewing for the week. That’s equivalent to about 10 million complete showings of the movie, which is part of Sony’s Spider-Man universe and was derided by both critics and audiences...

“Madame Web” was the No. 3 most-watched title of the May 13-19 viewing window, having made its Netflix debut on May 14 after a theatrical run earlier this year. The Dakota Johnson-led superhero flick was watched for 1.7 billion minutes in its first six days of streaming. That put it only 3,000 minutes behind “Grey’s Anatomy,” the week’s No. 2 title. The medical drama is a Nielsen heavyweight that’s begun charting even higher than normal after its addition to Hulu.
Unsurprisingly, “Bridgerton” was the winner of the week, during which the first four episodes of Season 3 were released. In the first four days of availability of Part 1, all seasons of “Bridgerton” were watched for 2.8 billion minutes. 70% of that total was accounted for by Season 3, while the other 30% came from viewers discovering or revisiting Seasons 1 and 2.

Netflix’s live roast of NFL great Tom Brady made it into the Nielsen streaming rankings for its premiere, despite only being available for a few hours of that week. After its first full week on the streamer, it rocketed to the top of the charts.
The Roast of Tom Brady gathered 1.67 billion minutes of viewing for the week of May 6-12, leading all streaming titles by a wide margin (the second-place finisher, Grey’s Anatomy, had 1.11 billion minutes of watch time for the week). The roast also had by far the biggest weekly viewing tally ever for a Netflix special; the previous high was 798 million minutes for Chris Rock’s stand-up special Selective Outrage in March 2023.
The 1.67 billion minutes of viewing for the roast in the United States translates to about 27.87 million hours, or about two thirds of Netflix’s reported worldwide total (42.2 million hours) for the special that week.

Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman are officially back together in the first trailer for their upcoming NBC sitcom Happy’s Place, which was handed a series order earlier this month. The new sitcom reunites McEntire and Peterman more than 17 years after both starred together in Reba, which aired its final episode on The CW in 2007. In that show, McEntire starred as Reba Hart, a single mom whose husband leaves her for his dental hygienist, Barbra Jean, played by Peterman. Over the course of the series, Reba and Barbra grow close despite their differences. Created by Kevin Abbott, who served as an executive producer on Reba, Happy’s Place centers on Bobbie (McEntire), who inherits her father’s restaurant and learns she’ll have to co-manage it with the half-sister she never knew she had, Isabella (Belissa Escobedo). Peterman plays longtime bartender Gabby. The newly released trailer sees McEntire’s Bobbie learning about...

NBC has given a series order to “Happy’s Place,” the Reba McEntire-led pilot the network ordered in January, and greenlit “Lopez vs. Lopez” for Season 3. The multi-cam comedy will debut during the 2024-2024 broadcast season.
“Happy’s Place” follows Bobbie (Reba McEntire), who inherits her father’s restaurant and is less than thrilled to discover that she has a new business partner in the half-sister (Belissa Escobedo) she never knew she had. The cast also includes Melissa Peterman, Pablo Castelblanco, Tokala Black Elk and Rex Linn. Universal Television is the studio.
With Kevin Abbott writing the series and executive producing alongside Michael Hanel, Mindy Schultheis, Julie Abbott and McEntire, “Happy’s Place” reunites the team who produced “Reba” for six seasons from 2001 to 2007. That comedy, which ran on the WB and later the CW, was executive produced by Hanel and Schultheis for its entire run, while Kevin Abbott joined after Season...

Reba McEntire is primed to headline a sitcom for the first time in more than a decade with a new NBC pilot, a project that reunites her with producers, writers, and at least one star of her 2000s WB series Reba. The pilot — which McEntire says is titled Happy’s Place — stars the singer as a tavern proprietor named Bobbie. “My dad was the owner, and I’ve been running it for the last ten years, and my dad dies,” she explains to Entertainment Tonight. “So I find out some information at the reading of his will that I’m not too happy with, so…” That information is that she has a half-sister, played by Belissa Escobedo (Blue Beetle), who’s joining the tavern team as her new business partner. Reba costar Melissa Peterman, meanwhile, will play Gabby, a clingy bartender who wishes she could be Bobbie’s sister, according to Deadline.

It’s season finale time for networks, but Netflix, naturally, still has plenty of brand new TV and shows coming in May.
Jeff Daniels makes his TV return in the David E. Kelley series “A Man in Full.” That six-episode series is based on the bestselling book of the same name by Tom Wolfe. Per a press release: “When Atlanta real estate mogul Charlie Croker faces sudden bankruptcy, political and business interests collide as Charlie defends his empire from those attempting to capitalize on his fall from grace.” The series will also star Tom Pelphrey, Diane Lane, Lucy Liu, William Jackson Harper, Aml Ameen, Sarah Jones, Jon Michael Hill and Chanté Adams.
Additionally, comedy fans can get excited for a new special series from John Mulaney. The comedian is hosting a multi-night event, “John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA,” that looks to be part interview show and part man-on-the-street hijinks.
