Welcome to the latest installment in our regular Movies You May Have Missed series here on Nerdly, in which I highlight some of, what I think, are the best movies that have flown under the radar of many or have been “forgotten” in the intervening years since its release. This time round its a fantastic British comedy, Pulp.
Official Synopsis:
Thunder Racers, Infinite Finity, Rat Warriors. Junk Comics’ titles have been referred to as ‘the worst printed material since Mein Kampf’. Tony Leary, the nice-guy owner of Junk Comics, is gearing up for one last roll of the dice. His new superhero title, The Sodomizer, launches at the British International Comic Show, and nothing will stop Tony from making it a success. Nothing except a gang of Geordie criminals who are using a comic company to launder their dirty money. Tony is drafted by the police to identify the culprits and bring them to justice.

The Maid of Mischief herself, Harley Quinn, is coming to Gotham.
Star David Mazouz -- who plays the teenage Bruce Wayne and future Batman on Fox's comic book drama -- spoke with Movie Pilot recently, and revealed that the beloved villainess will soon make an appearance.
"She's going to be in the finale. Stay tuned," Mazouz, 16, teased.
Watch: 'Gotham' -- Come For the Heroes, Stay For the Villains
While it was already reported that Harley Quinn would be involved in the show's recently-announced fourth season, it looks like Gotham fans will get a look at the playful super-criminal earlier than expected.
It hasn't been revealed who will be playing the fan-favorite member of Batman's rogues gallery, but Gotham producer Ken Woodruff teased that fans may already met the character who will take on the iconic mantle.

When Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was announced, it generated quite a bit of excitement. The show would offer a weekly look into the covert spy side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, they exhausted a large portion of that excitement half-way through the first season.
It appeared that any connection to the McU proper would be loose at best and that this would be a slow-moving, independent narrative. Then Captain America: The Winter Soldier happened. The entire show was turned on its side as the events happening in the film directly affected the team the organisation that they work for. Agent Ward was exposed as a traitor and Coulson’s group was forced underground.
While the ties to the McU have been strengthened, they must be cautious and create their own stories that work in their own right. In order to do this, the team must face some...

Over the years, comic books have produced some of fiction’s most memorable villains. From Lex Luthor to the Joker, many of these nefarious characters have since become popular across a wide spectrum of media, such as films and video games.
While the medium of comic books is clearly a great one when it comes to the creation of fantastic characters, not every villain has proven to be a classic. In fact, it’s safe to say that there have been a few that would rank among the worst of all time.
This list takes a look at 10 of the most laughably terrible comic book villains of all time. From stupid weapons to ridiculous costumes, the only super powers these villains have is the ability to make just about anyone laugh at their absurdity.

Comic book villains come in several forms and they range from the uber-intelligent to the uber-stupid. Take Doctor Doom, for example – his intelligence is such that his knowledge of science and technology is way beyond our real world comprehension, while he also has knowledge of magic. But for every Doctor Doom there’s a Rhino – and Rhino can barely tie a pair of shoelaces.
Given that comic book movies are based on comics, the same goes for them. There are certainly some extremely intelligent comic book movie villains – Julian McMahon’s Doctor Doom might have been a horrible depiction of the comic book character, but he was still very clever. Red Skull, Ra’s al Ghul, Lex Luthor, Aldrich Killian, the Riddler and the Joker – as well as many others – have all been portrayed as very intelligent individuals on the big screen too.

Comic book villains have proven to be a very difficult concept to portray on the big screen, with the vast majority of such depictions failing to garner acclaim for audiences or critics alike.
Whether it’s because the casting was terrible, their appearance was pathetic, they were vastly underpowered, they were changed too much from the source material or because of any other reason, more often than not comic book movie villains are deemed to be failures.
That’s not to say there haven’t been some great ones; Ian McKellen’s Magneto, Heath Ledger’s Joker, Terence Stamp’s General Zod, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier and Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus are just a few who have hit the nail firmly on the head with their portrayals of villains, which proves that it can be done well and makes it all the more...

When you think of comic books, you generally think of heroes and villains who can fly, who can lift heavy objects using their super-strength and who can shrug off bullets by virtue of incredible durability. You don’t immediately think of the characters who possess the mental equivalent of those physical powers – but comics are absolutely full of such characters.
Villains in particular, with their evil schemes and dastardly plans, often possess genius intellects that make real world scientists look like uneducated morons.
They can invent and create machines and gadgets that can give them incredible powers and do the impossible – from augmenting their own strength and giving them incredible protection to travelling through time and altering the very reality around them – and this makes them a threat, in some cases, even to the most powerful of heroes and even when said villains don’t possess any innate powers themselves.

Comic books are full of weird and wonderful villains, many of whom get a lot of respect from comic book fans thanks to their powers and/or abilities, their rich history of great stories and the formidable and competent ways in which they are consistently written. The Joker, Lex Luthor, Magneto, Doctor Doom, Darkseid (pre-crisis, at least) and Loki for example, while they might not always be successful, are lucky enough to always be presented as a credible threat to the heroes they oppose.
However, there are far too many villainous characters who are portrayed in the opposite way, either simply being completely and utterly useless, not doing as well as they should be capable of doing or going up against heroes way above their pay-grade and having that reflect badly on them. This doesn’t just include physically weak characters – sometimes it’s the very powerful ones...

There are no two ways about it. Superheroes and supervillains are absurd.
We suspend our disbelief every time Iron Man takes flight in his armour, every time Superman shoots lasers out of his eyes, every time Captain America throws his shield, every time Spider-Man swings from his web, every time Wolverine brings out his claws, and even every time Batman appears in public and doesn’t get laughed at.
Nolan’s Batman films were a game changer. They proved that superhero films can perform well critically and financially with a more serious tone. The films themselves are not serious; after all, they are about a man dressing in a bat costume fighting crime. They are however internally consistent with their tone and consistent with the tone of similarly serious action films.
The Avengers was also a game changer for superhero films. It brought together four main heroes from their own...

Every great hero needs a great – if not better – villain, and that’s true no more than in the weird, wonderful world of comic books. Though many of us may know these characters more through their TV, movie or video game equivalents, there would be nothing without the paperback counterparts first, and key to establishing an awesome superhero is supplying him with a powerful, intimidating foe to lock horns with.
Whether violent, menacing, quirky or somehow funny, these 100 comic book villains are forever etched in our fanboy minds, an enduring reminder of how to craft an iconic bad guy to be remembered for decades, possibly even centuries.
There’s an art to composing a comic book villain; it’s such a crowded field (just as it is with heroes), and there’s only so many times you can see a seemingly indefatigable enemy with super-strength, super-speed and so on.

Comic book villains have been brought to the big screen many times over the years – some successfully (e.g. Magneto, the Joker, General Zod, Loki) and some not so successfully (e.g. Venom, Mr. Freeze, Doctor Doom, Juggernaut).

One of the key components of a successful superhero movie is the evil force thrusting the hero into action; where would The Dark Knight be without The Joker? Where would Spider-Man be without The Green Goblin? Or Superman without Lex Luthor?
Movies featuring these match-ups have been tremendous critical and commercial successes, and that’s because the studios knew what they were doing; they opted for a broad, well-known villain who could fit in effortlessly with a live-action adaptation.
There’s a reason why these studios don’t try to be a little more bold and adapt some of the more…outlandish…comic book villains out there, because we as viewers would likely laugh them off the screen, and mass box office dollars would be lost as a result. While they may have made appearances in cartoons and TV spin-offs, here are 10 insane comic book villains you’ll never see in movies…...

In 2012, superheroes dominated the box office, claiming both the highest and third highest grossing films. More than ten Hollywood blockbusters based on superheroes are slated for release in 2013, with plenty more to come in 2014 and 2015.
It has been said that a hero is only as good as his villains. If superheroes are going to continue to see success in film, we will need to see some new interesting villains. Here is a list of ten very intriguing comic book villains that deserve a chance in film to show how awesome they are. Included is a discussion on the likelihood of each villain appearing in film.
In the interests of highlighting new villains, I have excluded Darkseid, Brainiac, Ultron and Apocalypse who are yet to appear in film, but did appeared in my previous list of great comic villains that need proper film treatment. You can check out the full list of great villains here.

In recent times we have seen some of the greatest comic book villains come to life on the big screen. We have seen two great interpretations of Magneto by Sir Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender. We have also seen two superb interpretations of the Joker by Jack Nicholson and the late Heath Ledger. Tom Hiddleston has given us a compelling version of Loki in two films and he is set to reprise the character again in Thor: The Dark World and hopefully many more films to come. We have seen a suitably creepy interpretation of the Green Goblin by Willem Dafoe and we may soon see another version played by Chris Cooper.
Although there have been many epic comic book villains that have successfully made the transition to film, there are a number of big villains that are still yet to appear in film. There are also a number of...

Once a villain, always a villain — or at least that's what they say.
However, Disney's newest film, "Wreck-It Ralph," aims to prove that particular saying wrong. Starring John C. Reilly (as Wreck-It Ralph), the film revolves around a down and out video game villain who aims to go against his programming and starts game hopping with the hopes of becoming a hero beloved by all.
In honor of "Wreck-It Ralph," we've taken the liberty of compiling our own list of villains turned heroes. Comic book villains turned heroes, to be precise! Finally, a TV producer remembered that Pam Grier deserves better than a variation on the line “Don’t mess with me, girl.”
According to EW’s Ausiello, the inimitable blaxploitation badass will join the cast of Smallville as Dr. Amanda Blake Waller (no relation to Miss Kitty), #60 on IGN’s list of Top 100 Comic Book Villains of All Time.
Amanda “The Wall” Waller has been part of the DC Universe since Legends #1 and rose to power as the head of Task Force X/Suicide Squad a covert team of former supervillains who do dirty work for the government in exchange for amnesty. She became Secretary of Metahuman Affairs during Lex Luthor’s presidential administration.
No word yet on The Wall’s storyline, but it will start with the second half of January’s two-part “Justice Society” episode. I have little doubt that massive ass kicking — and hotness — will be involved.
