As the rebellion against the oppressive Ottoman Empire boils, the handsome young shepherd, Vasilis, and beautiful Lenio find the courage to fall in love. However, this platonic relationship doesn't sit well with the wealthy chief-shepherd and powerful landowner, Asimakis Tsakonas, who uses strong-arm tactics to force Lenio's father, Thanasis, convince his daughter to marry him instead, in exchange for his ever-growing debt. When Tsakonas' men decide to take matters into their own hands, Vasilis flees to the mountains to join the feared Klepht, Kitsos, and his brave forty lads who do battle against the Turkish Army. Are Lenio and Vasilis meant to be together?
