As reported by Parade, one of Karen Kingsbury’s most popular novels is Someone Like You, which is being adapted as a movie on Great American Family. The author is adapting the work and said of the book:

“Ginny & Georgia” has added Ty Doran and Noah Lamanna to its Season 3 cast. Doran and Lamanna will join the Netflix drama series’ existing cast as recurring characters. The show stars Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry as the titular mother-daughter duo, Ginny and Georgia.

Doran, best known for appearing in “Manifest,” is set to play Wolfe, a laid-back guy in Ginny’s poetry class who doesn’t particularly like poetry. Lamanna, who can be seen in “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” and “Beacon 23,” joins the cast as Tris, a friend of Marcus (Felix Mallard) and Silver, who is described as a “super smart” skateboarder who also serves as a peer tutor.

The news comes as “Ginny & Georgia” wraps production on its third season, for which further details are set to be released at a later date.

Exclusive: Canadian actress Samora Smallwood has launched her own production company, Hold One Entertainment. The indie debuts with a greenlight from Bell Fibe’s streaming channel TV1, a rom-com series called Coming Home.

Smallwood will star and make her directorial debut in the show, which is billed as an adult coming-of-age story “that explores the humorous and poignant realities of returning to one’s roots while striving to build a future in the art.” Inspired by Smallwood’s personal experiences, it will explore the spaces between her small hometown and Hollywood.

Cast also includes Robert Ifedi (Madam Cj Walker, What We Do in the Shadows), Tommy James Murphy (Last Resort), Kevin Hanchard (Hudson & Rex, Orphan Black), Karen LeBlanc (Ginny & Georgia, Lovecraft Country) and Paula Brancati (Slasher, Degrassi: The Next Generation).

Filming will begin in the fall in Grimsby, Ontario and the Greater Toronto Area. Hold One produces alongside Kalkaden Productions and RavinMurph Pictures.

Francine Pascal, the author best known for creating hit teen book series “Sweet Valley High,” has died. She was 92.

Pascal died on Sunday in New York, the New York Times reports. The cause of death was lymphoma Pascal’s daughter, Laurie Wenk-Pascal, told the newspaper.

“Sweet Valley High” debuted in 1983 after a friend remarked to Pascal there was no teen version of 1980s soap “Dallas.” Pascal was reportedly inspired to create the series, about blonde Californian twins Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, immediately. The books went on to spawn hundreds of sequels and spin-offs detailing the twins at different ages, ranging from middle school to college. There were also some wackier books which saw the twins mixed up in murders and even supernatural events.

Nexstar Media Group’s CW Network has launched its latest free, ad-supported streaming television (Fast) channels through Amazon’s Fast platform, Freevee.

The channels — CW Gold and CW Forever — were quietly added to Freevee last week, The Desk can confirm. It marks the latest effort by the CW Network to build out its Fast business since broadcaster Nexstar acquired a majority stake in the network two years ago.

Distribution terms of the deal between the CW Network and Amazon were not available. The two channels were not initially offered through the CW Network’s own Fast platform — which recently became available through the CW app for Apple TV and iPhones — but the channels appeared on the web version of the CW Fast platform a few hours after this story was first published.

The Spencer Sisters Season 1 Episode 1 introduced both Darby and Victoria Spencer and hinted at why they had been estranged.

As an introductory chapter, the series did a decent job previewing the issues our leading ladies may have and what motivated them to go into the private investigation business together.

The Spencer Sisters was similar to many of Canada's other breezy procedurals, where private investigators solve crimes, typically bloodless ones, with plenty of humor sprinkled in. It reminded me of Private Eyes, which made sense since Alan McCullough created and produced both series.

The CW was fortunate to pick this series up since programming was lacking this fall during the strike. It fits right in with their programming, and both actresses have a massive fanbase.

The dramedy, which debuted on Netflix in February 2021, stars Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry as the titular daughter-mother duo. It has been a big hit with audiences, featuring in Nielsen's Top 10 charts for eight weeks following the release of season 2 earlier this year. Now, along with confirmation about the show's future, there's news about why a renewal has taken so long.

Given Ginny & Georgia’s very strong performance and very appealing economics, the two-season order is not a surprise; Netflix has done it on other series with similar pedigree, including Virgin River.

What is surprising was the four-month wait for a series of that level of ratings success to be renewed. According to sources, the pickup was done awhile ago but held for Netflix’s upfront.

As for the showrunner change, there had been rumors about friction between Fisher and Ginny & Georgia creator Sarah Lampert. By April, there was speculation that Fisher would be departing the series.

The streamer has picked up two more seasons of the mother-daughter dramedy starring Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry. The renewal will take Ginny & Georgia through its fourth season. Along with the pickup, the series has also tapped a new showrunner in Sarah Glinski (Degrassi: The Next Generation). Glinski, who was hired before the Writers Guild of America began its strike, will take over for Debra J. Fisher, who ran the first two seasons.

The show’s second season, released Jan. 5, ended on a cliff-hanger. The Vampire Diaries cast helped make the show one of the best supernatural-teen dramas as they portrayed several engaging characters. Beginning in 2009 (and based off of the books by L.J. Smith), The Vampire Diaries was a truly immersing show as it followed the life of 17-year-old Elena Gilbert, who quickly discovers the supernatural world actually exists after meeting two vampire brothers, Stefan and Damon Salvatore. While the show quickly established a love triangle between Stefan, Elena, and Damon, Elena's arc also saw her fighting for her life as a variety of supernatural entities tried to use her for their evil schemes.

Exclusive: An attorney for Forbes March, the former star of such soaps as One Life to Live and All My Children who was arrested earlier this month in New York State for the alleged theft of used cooking oil, has responded to the charge in an exclusive statement to Deadline saying that March operates a legitimate oil collection service and that a “poorly marked and seemingly abandoned” container was mistaken for one of the containers legally serviced by March’s company.

“While not readily apparent to Forbes that day due to the poor markings,” reads the statement released by attorney Jared K. Hart, “one of the containers in fact allegedly belonged to Buffalo Biodiesel. Approximately 90 gallons of oil, only a portion of the oil collected that evening, allegedly came from the Biodiesel container that appeared abandoned and contained mostly dirty rainwater that would later have to be separated out.

Forbes March, a former soap actor who did stints on One Life to Live, All My Children and As the World Turns, was arrested in Hudson County, New York, earlier this month and charged with grand larceny for the alleged theft of used cooking oil from a diner.

The cooking oil has an estimated value of more than $1,000, according to the Ulster Police Department, and allegedly was siphoned by March and a second man, Oscar Guardado, from a storage container owned by a company called Buffalo Biodiesel. The tank was located behind Michael’s Diner, an Ulster restaurant.

The two men, who were released following their arrests, are expected to answer the charges of grand larceny in the fourth degree in the Town of Ulster Court at a later date.
