As the Galactic War in Helldivers 2 continues to evolve, players are constantly discovering new and innovative ways to spread managed democracy across the galaxy. While the game already offers a thrilling mix of tactical combat and strategic planning, there’s one historical warfare element that could take the fight against the Automatons to a whole new level of intensity.

Remember those history lessons about World War 1’s trench warfare? Now imagine applying those same brutal, mud-soaked tactics to our ongoing battle against the mechanical menace. Some creative Helldivers have already started experimenting with this concept, and the results are as glorious as they are effective.
And let’s be honest, what better way to fight soulless machines than by making them experience the same hellish conditions that haunted soldiers over a century ago?

Du Jie, who had been in the spotlight as a cinematographer for blockbuster commercial films in China such as “No Man’s Land” (2013), “Savage” (2018), and “Moon Man” (2022), emigrated to Japan three years ago where he completed his directorial debut, “The Height of Coconut Trees”. According to the director, the film is inspired by the true story of a friend whose solo travel was mistaken for a suicide, a beautiful yet sorrowful misunderstanding. The dialogue scenes are a reenactment of a talk event that actually took place during the “Sazanami” – a Japan-China contemporary artist relay exhibition (during the Kenji Chiga exhibition). The content of the dialogue and the exhibition images are excerpts from Kenji Chiga’s art book “Hijack Geni” and are based on real events.

The Penguin has just hinted at the most likely storyline for The Batman Part II, which has huge potential consequences and makes perfect sense. With DCs The Batman, Matt Reeves introduced a gritty, noir-like version of Gotham City and its Dark Knight protector. The film's climax left Gotham City in chaos, with The Penguin picking up the narrative shortly afterward. As such, The Penguin has proffered the biggest hints at what might unfold in The Batman Part II, with the biggest hint coming from The Penguin episode 2.
The Penguin recommences the narrative after The Batman, after the Riddlers final plan results in a catastrophic flood. This destructive event created a fractured Gotham, setting the stage for further exploration of a city on the brink of collapse. A reference to a classic Batman storyline confirms the current state of Gotham post-The Batman but also provides a tantalizing glimpse into what could...

You’d have to look pretty far and wide to find anyone in music who has been as consistently good or eternally enjoyable as Miranda Lambert. Almost 20 years into her run, she’s defined her career by always going her own way, both musically and lyrically. Her ninth solo set was recorded in her native Texas with help from peers and longtime collaborators like Brent Cobb, Natalie Hemby, and Jack Ingram, and the album’s co-producer Jon Randall. Postcards From Texas doesn’t have as many genre swerves as Lambert sometimes delivers.

Bosnian filmmaker Danis Tanović makes movies all around the world. His 2020 crime thriller The Postcard Killings (2020), starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Famke Janssen, and Cush Jumbo, was shot in Sweden. Triage (2009), which stars Collin Ferrell as a war photographer, shot in Ireland and Spain. He filmed his latest, the comedic drama My Late Summer, in Croatia. But he keeps coming back to Sarajevo.
“It’s the place where I know everybody, where everybody knows me,” Tanović says. “I know every stone of this city.”
Easily Bosnia’s greatest cinema export and to date its only Oscar winner (Tanović’s 2001 debut No Man’s Land, a powerful exploration of the absurdities of war, won the Academy Award for best foreign-language film), Tanović has carved out a unique career by refusing to repeat himself. L’Enfer (2005), his feature follow-up to No Man’s Land, is a family drama adapted from a script by the late Krzysztof Kieślowski and Krzysztof Piesiewicz.

For a richly pedigreed event that is intimately woven into the fabric of its host city, the Sarajevo Film Festival could be forgiven for resting on its laurels and choosing its 30th edition as an opportunity to look back — to reflect on its storied beginnings during the four-year siege that all but reduced the Bosnian capital to rubble in the early-1990s.
Instead, the organizers are introducing sweeping changes that will alter the look and feel of the event moving forward, with the nucleus of festival activities shifting from its historic home in the heart of Sarajevo’s old town to the modern part of the city.

Sitting across from Miranda Lambert, it’s hard not to be confronted by the strength, determination, and “fuck around and find out” attitude that defined one of country music’s most promising debut albums. Kerosene, Lambert’s first major label LP, turns 20 next year, and the Texas songwriter is reflecting on all that led to its 2005 release.
“When I first started, I wanted longevity, a long career and to have relevancy, and be able to play as long as I physically could play,” Lambert tells Rolling Stone. “Luckily, I have...

I'm offering DC writers a bounty to stop using this tired Batman clich. Batman's bizarre habit of refusing to eat makes no sense for the character, and yet it keeps appearing in his modern stories. As a peak athlete and obsessed vigilante, it makes no sense that Batman keeps ignoring the need to fuel his body - especially when he has a butler to cook for him.
I've been reading a lot of Batman lately, flitting between eras and creative teams, and yet the same clich keeps returning again and again. When it comes to Marvel and DC properties, I tend to read in phases, getting hooked on a character and exclusively exploring their back catalog for a few weeks or months. This time, it's Batman's turn, hunting down stories I haven't gotten around to yet, like the 'No Man's Land' event story and Paul Dini's Detective Comics run.

1917, while not entirely accurate to history, is rooted in real WWI experiences, showcasing trench life and No Man's Land with care. Characters like Schofield and Blake were inspired by real WWI messengers, reflecting the high stakes and danger of their missions. The impactful story of 1917 was inspired by director Sam Mendes' grandfather's WWI experience, echoing real events like the Battle of Passchendaele.
Sam Mendes' Oscar-nominated WWI epic 1917 chronicles a desperate race against the clock in World War I, and while the specifics of the mission in the movie may not be real, the entirety of the movie is rooted in real WWI experiences. 1917, which is currently available to stream, provides a brief yet realistic snapshot of trench life, No Man's Land, and actual combat from The Great War, and it's clear that great care was taken to ensure accuracy to history. Warning: Spoilers for Detective Comics #1082!
Cassandra Cain embodies Batman's mission in Detective Comics #1082 — even without Batman's presence. Cass's pursuit of vengeance began before joining the Bat-Family, making her connection to Batman deeper. Cass comes the closest to honoring Batman's legacy, surpassing even his detective skills, in a Gotham without the Dark Knight.
Even in a world without Batman, Cassandra Cain echoes his mission perfectly across Gotham. While every member of the Bat-Family carries Batman's legacy in their own unique way, the third woman to carry the Batgirl mantle in official DC canon — behind Barbara Gordon and, briefly, the Huntress — may do so better than anyone else. Arguably DC's most dedicated hero, Cass might be the most dedicated to Batman's mission in particular.

Superhero movie budgets are soaring beyond belief - from $250 million to $495 million and higher. The massive budgets are evident in epic scenes, CGI effects, star-studded casts, and global locations. Despite blockbuster success, high budgets come with high risks, with net profits not always soaring.
While there are economical movie studios like A24 that can stretch a tiny budget so far, almost the opposite is the case when it comes to superhero movies. Budgets for comic book films are inflating more and more with each passing year, especially as the DC Universe and Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline continue to expand and films crossover with other series.
While there are huge, spectacular event movies that unsurprisingly cost hundreds of millions to produce, there are some older films with astronomical budgets that may come as a surprise. Between several team-up movies and one film that sits outside of any shared universe, it's almost...

Every studio wants its own massive cinematic universe. Though many have tried (never forget the Dark Universe), none have managed to be nearly as successful as the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sony's equivalent, the universe formerly known as Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters (or Spumc), is now four movies deep (with at least two more coming this year). All the movies so far have revolved around supporting characters in the "Spider-Man" comics, mostly villains, but that's about to change this weekend.
The latest entry in Sony's Marvel universe is "Madame Web," the first movie that doesn't center on a villain, but instead, focuses on a hero and ally of Spider-Man. A sign of the downfall of civilization, or just the latest proof of superhero fatigue, "Madame Web" follows Cassandra Webb, a paramedic who discovers she has the spider-like ability to see the future. Red Hood criticizes DC Comics for relying too heavily on major events, with even news reporters like Denise Harlowe calling out the recent Joker War as unnecessary. Gotham City constantly suffers from city-destroying events, with chaos and crime becoming increasingly absurd over the years. Red Hood aims to break out from under the Bat-Family and establish his own solo status quo in a new area of Gotham City.

Despite poor box office performance, The Postcard Killings has landed on Netflix's Top 10 movies chart in the US. Familiarity with Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Famke Janssen, as well as their previous work, likely contributed to the movie's success on the streaming platform. The popularity of crime TV shows on Netflix and the movie's premise of hunting down a serial killer also likely played a role in its inclusion in the Top 10 list.
A crime movie starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Famke Janssen that only made $181,415 at the box office is now on Netflix's Top 10 movies chart for the US. Morgan is best known for his role as Negan in The Walking Dead franchise, starring in the ongoing spinoff Dead City. Janssen was Jean Gray in the X-Men movie series, also having a prominent role in the Taken trilogy as Lenore Mills.

Netflix scored 18 Oscar nominations for its 2023 films, with eight for feature films — the most of any distributor. All told, Netflix had nine nominations in top categories incuding Best Picture, International Film, Animated Feature, acting, and writing categories.
Not that Netflix’s domestic viewers seemed to notice. Since the Oscar nomination announcement January 23, not one nominated film reentered its top 10 most watched film list. Since then, two obscure titles have held the top spot: “The Hill,” a faith-based sports biopic that grossed under $8 million when it was released last summer, and “The Postcard Killings,” a 2020 home video-released European murder mystery directed by Oscar-winning director Denis Tanovic (“No Man’s Land”).
Nominees fared somewhat better in VOD viewing. Led by “Oppenheimer” (Universal), all five Best Picture nominees that are available to view and without a streaming alternative placed on at least one top 10 list.

Batgirl has had a varied love life, with different romantic interactions and relationships with various characters. Barbara Gordon and Dick Grayson (Nightwing) have a long-standing relationship and are considered DC's power couple. Each Batgirl has had their own triumphs and failures in love, but their love lives are often complicated by their superhero careers.
The name Batgirl is shared among several different deserving, unique individuals — but if there is one thing they all share, it is ambitions for romance. Then again, pursuing romance practically comes with the territory of being a superhero. It is rare to see a superhero story without the protagonist's struggle to balance a love life with a superhero career. The same narrative has been applied to all iterations of Batgirl, including Barbara Gordon, Cassandra Cain, and Stephanie Brown.

Warning: Spoilers for Titans: Beast World Tour - Gotham #1!
DC Comics finally acknowledges that Huntress was the Batgirl who followed Barbara Gordon. Huntress' time as Batgirl is largely forgotten, but this Titans story gives her the respect she deserves. This recognition of Huntress as Batgirl could lead to her return as a prominent character in DC Comics.
After 25 years, DC Comics finally acknowledges who the real third Batgirl is. In official DC continuity, despite the pre-Crisis existence of Betty Kane, Barbara Gordon is acknowledged as the first Batgirl, and most audiences recall Cassandra Cain being the one to take her cowl. That order isn't entirely accurate, however. Cass does become Batgirl shortly after Barbara steps down, but there is a forgotten Batgirl before her.
In Titans: Beast World Tour - Gotham #1's "Claw & Order" by Sam Maggs, and Pj Holden, DC finally acknowledges that Helena Bertinelli, also known as Huntress,...
