Documentary fans have a lot to be excited about this month on HBO and Max. April begins with the premiere of The Synanon Fix, a docuseries that follows the rise and fall of the cult-like drug rehabilitation program Synanon. The documentary Brandy Hellville and the Cult of Fast Fashion takes a deep-dive into the controversial “one size fits most” clothing brand Brandy Mellville and the impact of fast fashion on the planet.
An American Bombing: The Road to April 19th looks at the surge of political violence and anti-government sentiment that led to the 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing, and the effects still felt nearly 30 years later. HBO is also returning with a second part to their popular docuseries The Jinx, with filmmakers continuing their investigation of Robert Durst.
But if documentaries aren’t your thing, there’s still plenty of popular films hitting Max in April, like Scott Pilgrim vs. The World,...

Mumbai, March 9: Radhika Apte, Jackie Shroff, Vijay Varma and Rasika Dugal will co-star in the sci-fi comedy web series titled Ok Computer.
The series deals with Artificial Intelligence and poses a relevant question whether AI can become a bane instead of a boon for humans in the near future. The six-episode web series showcases year 2031 where Homo-Sapiens deal with the Robo-Sapiens.
Anand Gandhi, who has co-written and produced the series, said, "Ok Computer is an attempt to imagine a world of our near-future together, and laugh out loud while we are at it. The show asks one of the biggest questions of this century: If AI commits a crime, who should be culpable? It asks this question with madcap humour, zany characters and a roller coaster epic story."
"It's been my privilege to offer unprecedented stories to Indian audiences. Ok Computer is a small step in a completely new direction.

Written by Church with frequent collaborator Luke Dick (“Kill a Word”), “Never Break Heart” celebrates the resiliency of the human spirit, no matter how much is thrown your way. When John Carpenter was making his movies Assault on Precinct 13 and Halloween, he wrote and recorded the scores himself almost as an afterthought because he had to: there was no budget for a composer. Here he had these hair-raising, suspenseful stories with murderers wending through darkness, but it all happened in silence. So the budding filmmaker — whose favorite music was the Stones and the Beatles, though he loved the scores of Bernard Herrmann and Dimitri Tiomkin — drew upon the basics of composition he’d learned from his dad, a...

Each month, the editors and critics at Rolling Stone compile a list of our favorite new albums. Our picks for January include Colombian pop star Maluma’s Jamaican detour, a brilliant new LP from hip-hop innovator Madlib and great post-punk from Pom Poko and Goat Girl.

Rivers Cuomo has always been an onion of irony — layer upon layer of smirking innuendo, gentle obfuscation, smarty-pants witticism, each shielding a sensitive heart. That emotional sleight of hand is what made Weezer’s “Sweater Song” and its ham-fisted metaphor of a cardigan unraveling until Cuomo, the group’s frontman and chief songwriter, is writhing on the floor in Superman skivvies, at once funny, corny, and even a little moving, and it’s what set them apart from the trenchant gloom of grunge. It’s the quality that confused fans...

At one stage, Jamie Foxx’s Electro was poised to be a major part of Sony’s planned Sinister Six, which had The Cabin the Woods‘ Drew Goddard set to write and direct, before the disappointing critical and commercial performance of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 nixed any plans for an expansive universe built out from the adventures of Andrew Garfield’s web-slinger.
Ever since the bombshell dropped that the Academy Award winner would reprise the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man 3, though, the rumor mill has gone into overdrive, with virtually every major player from any of the last seven live-action Spidey movies being linked with an unexpected return.
So far, absolutely none of reports have been confirmed by either Marvel Studios or Sony, but you’d imagine that some concrete information surely can’t be too far away given that production has been underway for almost three months at this point.

KollywoodMore music albums than films released this year but we're not complaining.Anjana ShekarThe year is about to end and cinema lovers have had to forego their usual diet of new films in theatres. However, the good news is that we’ve had more music album releases than films this year, a consequence of producers and filmmakers hoping to keep their fans engaged despite the dry spell. It is only befitting that we chart out a playlist that sums up 2020. More so because the timeline that comes with pre-covid and post-covid distinctions could be disorienting for many, this writer included. After all, if you thought Ilaiyaraaja’s 'Unna Nenachu' for Mysskin’s Psycho released in 2019, can we blame you? Actually, that was a trick question. The film released in 2020 but the album was out in December last year, so worry not. Nevertheless, films that released in theatres before the Covid-...

Okay, someone call The New York Times. I think they might have cloned Jamie Foxx. I have no proof of this, and I don’t know the actor personally, but his schedule is filling up awfully fast and I’m not exactly sure how one person can have this many projects at once. First, there’s “Spider-Man 3.” Then he’s got some vampire project called “Day Shift.” There’s also “They Cloned Tyrone” for Netflix.

Every generation has that moment right before they’re forced to grow up and everything goes to shit — before society herds them into the adult lives they never wanted, but had to accept in lieu of a better stable. For the former ravers and ruffians of mid-’90s Scotland, whose already fading dreams were squelched out completely by a government decree that criminalized public music characterized “by the emission of a succession of repetitive beats,” that last gasp of disobedience has now been re-crystallized in all its raging glory.

Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart have reportedly split again. According to People, the on-and-off-again couple "are currently not together." In times of turmoil, many of us turn to music for comfort, uplift, and escape, and that’s certainly been true since the coronavirus swept through the U.S. and kept most Americans at home. While music streams were down in the first few weeks of social distancing, they’re slowly returning back to normal, according to numbers from Alpha Data, the data analytics provider that powers the Rolling Stone Charts.

Andrea Riseborough and Christopher Abbott are not on screen together much in Brandon Cronenberg’s sci-fi thriller “Possessor,” but they each had to adopt the other’s mannerisms and act as if they were one person.
In “Possessor,” Riseborough plays a world-class killer who uses an advanced brain implant technology to take over the mind of an unsuspecting host played by Abbott and commit the perfect crime. So, in a way, Riseborough and Abbott are each playing themselves and their co-star.
“She’s malleable and stealthy and spends her life really shape-shifting, occupying the psyche of people one after another in order to commit these crimes,” Riseborough told TheWrap’s Brian Welk at Sundance. “She is a person not really tethered to her own identity any longer when you come to meet her at the beginning of the film.”

The clown princes of political comedy had a huge task in front of them tonight. They had to take what was perceived as overwhelmingly bad news to their liberal audiences and try to elicit laughs in the face of a collective abject misery.
But the show must go on, so the three late night political comedians tried their best to put some funny spin on the Senate impeachment acquittal of President Donald Trump. Their effort can best be described as rueful.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert ran what it billed as the final installment of its “Don and the Giant Impeach” series, a vehicle that focused on the long-running political tennis match that was impeachment. “It’s official, right is wrong, up is down, Missouri is Kansas,” said Colbert.. “Now we know that asking a foreign power to interfere in our election is the new normal.” That was pretty...

Bang a gong, T. Rex fans. The great British glam-rock studs are finally going into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, a year after their comrades Roxy Music. It’s a beautiful moment because Marc Bolan has always stood for everything benignly insane about glam. T. Rex didn’t flourish long — Bolan was killed in a car crash in 1977, just two weeks shy of his 30th birthday, and wrote nearly all his great songs in a three-year hot streak. But he’s been a guiding spirit for cosmic dancers ever since.

Fox Entertainment is in very early stages of development of a newly acquired piece of intellectual property — The Texanist, a column at Texas Monthly magazine.
The column will be adapted as a comedy in conjunction with the publication, Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn told Variety at the Television Critics Assn. winter press tour, calling it an “incredible column from an incredible voice.”
“We’ve just started the process of trying to find the right writer and writing team to adapt it, and so it’s early stage, but those rights we are closed on and I’m very passionate about it,” he said. “It just brings such an authentic, unique point of view that’s not on television.”
The Texanist, an advice column penned by David Courtney, has been in publication since July 2007 and is the magazine’s most read feature, according to Texas Monthly.

The joy of streaming means that many beloved shows from your past can be rewatched and relived all over again. It also means that such convenience makes the beloved shows that aren’t available to stream yet stick out even more egregiously. After all, why can’t everything just be streaming? This is the age of Peak TV!
It’s a rhetorical question, but the actual answer as to why we can’t have everything ever, right now, is a mix of music rights, distribution rights, saving certain shows for certain streaming services, or some mix of all three. While some of these shows, as we’ve noted, are available for digital purchase — gotta keep those royalty checks coming! — it’s impossible to get them in their entirety as part of any ongoing subscription package.

There are so many elements of a great TV show that it’s sometimes hard to recognize when one is so vital that its absence would collapse the series around it. It can be a vital music cue, a key costume, or a well-placed prop.
Very often, though, it’s a performance. A sturdy pillar that allows the flashier pieces to flourish, the quiet heartbeat that gives life to its surroundings.
So, as part of our ongoing efforts to salute the standout work of this past decade, we each picked a handful of performances we thought deserved a second look. Often, it’s a single entry from a prolific 10 years spent in front of the camera. In all cases, these are roles that deserved more fanfare than they received.

It’s been nearly four years since Ricky Gervais hosted a Golden Globes ceremony and a lot has changed. The president is different, the climate is different, the state of the entertainment industry is different. But Gervais is just the same, and for that reason, he shouldn’t have been anywhere near the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s list for hosting responsibilities.
In November, the organization responsible for the Golden Globes announced that Gervais would be returning for a fifth and, mercifully, final time as the ceremony’s host, this despite the controversial British comedian’s extensive history of transphobia.
While the decision is not a surprise because of his tenure, it remains a disappointment. During Gervais’ 2016 stint hosting the ceremony he deadnamed Olympic Gold medalist Caitlyn Jenner from the stage, and transphobic commentary has been a throughline of his work since.

Best Sound went to rage-zombie veterans Ian Tapp and Richard Pryke, leaving Mark Weingarten who worked on Rejuvenatrix in the dust. Holdovers bury 'Treasure'
Heading into the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, industry expectations were running high as several strong holdovers -- and five new wide releases that appealed to a broad range of demographics -- were hoping to take the boxoffice to record heights. But most of what magic there was at the boxoffice was conjured up by Warner Bros. Pictures' Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets as the fantasy-adventure film levitated back into the top spot after a one-week absence. Chamber pulled in an estimated $32.2 million during the three days, beating MGM's James Bond installment Die Another Day, which debuted in the top spot a week earlier. Die moved into the No. 2 spot with a three-day estimate of $31 million, off a modest 34% from its opening. Buena Vista's latest $100 million-plus animated feature Treasure Planet placed fourth with a disappointing three-day estimate of $11.9 million and has dug up $16.5 million since its release Wednesday -- the worst opening in recent history for a major Disney animated release. Sony's Adam Sandler's Eight Crazy Nights took in an estimated $10.1 million to place fifth and collected about $15.1 million for the five days. Fox's Solaris debuted in the seventh slot with a bleak estimate of $6.8 million and $9.5 million for the five-day period. Dimension's Wes Craven Presents: They opened in the ninth slot with a not-so-scary estimate of $5.7 million. They has taken in roughly $8 million since its Wednesday opening. Paramount Pictures' Extreme Ops was in the 14th slot with a frigid estimate of $2.3 million and $3.1 million for its five-day cume.
