'Planet Of The Cannibals' is an interesting low budget German sci fi black comedy that deserves a LOT more attention! Set in 2020, two rival TV channels, Alphaplus and Eurolux, battle each other in the ratings. Their competition becomes even more intense when the Government announces that only one of them may continue to exist. Eurolux's most popular program features a Hannibal Lecter-like serial killer (Vadim Glowna, who appeared in cult favourites 'Cross Of Iron' and 'Deathwatch') who gives advice to phone in viewers. Emma Trost (Minh-Khai Phan-Thi) is a young and ambitious member of Alphaplus' team, and is called in by Professor Dr. Best (Peter Fitz) for a briefing. She is told that there is irrefutable proof that aliens exist and that three of them live in Germany, passing for human. He gives her the task in tracking them down so that they can be used to win the ratings war. While she is absorbing this shocking information he is murdered, and Emma soon finds herself framed and on the run. Not knowing who she can trust, and convinced that the aliens hold the key to everything, she forms an alliance with "media forger" Adam Singer (Florian Lukas). 'Planet Of The Cannibals' is a great example of what can be accomplished on a modest budget with a good script and a talented bunch of actors. All the cast are very good, but the real standout performance for me is by Vadim Glowna as Oskar, the cannibal superstar. He's just brilliant. The movie held my interest until the end and never ran out of steam. It's quite a modest movie in a way, but it's very successful in what it sets out to do, and lovers of black comedy and satirical science fiction will find a lot to enjoy here. Recommended.
