In October, Dua Lipa did a spectacular one-night-only live performance at London’s historic Royal Album Hall. It was a classy hometown coronation of sorts for the singer, who grew up in the city and has become one of the biggest pop artists to come out of the UK in the past decade. She pulled out all the stops for the event. Taking the stage in a red, floor-length Jean Paul Gaultier dress, a 53-piece orchestra and 14-member choir backed the singer alongside her crack, disco-steeped backing band. “There have...

Melissa’s mother finally appeared for the first time in Abbott Elementary season 4, and a notable guest star portrayed the supporting character. Abbott Elementary’s cast of characters are all memorably funny, but some of them receive more focus than others. Abbott Elementary’s Janine and Gregory relationship was central to the show’s first three seasons, as the two trepidatious teachers navigated their attraction towards each other. This meant that many beloved supporting characters, like Lisa Ann Walter’s Melissa and Janelle James’s Principal Ava, were largely relegated to B-stories in most episodes. Season 4 has changed this.

Pop legends Britney Spears and Elton John have released their new duet “Hold Me Closer.”
It was made available Friday at midnight on the East Coast via streaming services, while an official audio video debuted on John’s YouTube page along with the simple message, “Elton John & Britney Spears’ new single ‘Hold Me Closer’ is out now!”
The duo has been teasing their collaboration for weeks, with its official title revealed Aug. 19 after its pre-save availability was announced and cover art previewed Aug. 8. The song’s title is based on the first three lines of the chorus in John’s 1971 hit “Tiny Dancer,” which he wrote with longtime creative partner Bernie Taupin for the Madman Across the Water album.
“Hold Me Close” marks one of the first major releases for Spears following her 2016 album Glory and first new music since the end of her 13-year conservatorship.

A24 and Fruit Tree Productions have added several new cast members for the upcoming thriller with the intriguing title of "I Saw the TV Glow." This project comes to us from writer and producer Jane Schoenbrun. If "Poltergeist" and "The Ring" made you fear your television and VHS player, you're going to find the synopsis intriguing. That goes double if you love horror television.
The cast isn't just populated with actors, but a bunch of musicians as well, including Fred Durst, indie artist Lindsey Jordan from Snail Mail, the band King Woman, and more.
If Fruit Tree Productions sounds familiar, it's the banner started by Academy Award-winner Emma Stone and Emmy-nominated writer-director Dave McCary in 2020.
The film has wrapped production already, though there has been no release date announcement yet. We'll keep you updated as that information becomes available.

Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators launched their River Is Rising tour Tuesday night at the Roseland Theatre in Portland, Oregon. The set mixed songs from their new LP 4 along with selections from their previous albums, Slash’s Snakepit catalog, and Slash’s 2010 solo album. There were no Guns N’ Roses covers, but they did tackle the 1991 Lenny Kravitz song “Always on the Run” that Slash co-wrote.

The Russian Oscar Committee's decision to choose Andrei Zvyagintsev's Leviathan as Russia's submission for the 2015 foreign-language Oscar has stirred controversy as producers of the movie Gorko! (Kiss the Bride!) threatened that they were going to question that decision. In a statement released on Sept. 28, Ilya Burets and Dmitry Nelidov, the producers of Gorko!, which was runner-up in the vote by the Russian Oscar Committee's members, called on Leviathan's producers to pull their film, claiming that the procedure was not observed. Burets and Nelidov pointed to the fact that Leviathan hadn't yet had a commercial release in

Today is Gaytron Saint Elton John‘s 67th birthday, and how do you pay tribute to one of the most successful musicians of … any time? In the past, we’ve counted down his greatest hits (my favorite – “Someone Saved My Life Tonight”), so this year let’s take a look at the flip side, his greatest songs that weren’t his biggest hits.
What are your favorite lesser-known Elton singles? The songs you never hear anywhere … except in the walkman in your mind.
Here are my top ten, in no particular order.
Victim Of Love – Do you remember Elton’s disco era? That’s because it mercifully only lasted one album, 1979′s Victim Of Love, which is one of the worst selling and reviewed albums of his career. And for good reason – it was his first album in which he didn’t write any of the songs or play any of the instruments,...

Good Morning! It really is an awesome morning with the striking down of Doma as unconstitutional and saying "Peace out, Prop 8!" I'm feeling all:
Turn on Logo for the latest on all these Supreme Court rulings.
Russell Brand was talking about out lesbian presenter Clare Balding on a radio show in the UK when he said he likes to help "test" lesbians.
I just do that with lesbians, like "come on, you’re not that lesbian. For heaven’s sake, you’re just being difficult now." She’s in a happy relationship, isn’t she? I won’t rest, until every lesbian relationship in Britain has been disrupted by an unwelcome boorish Essex boy.

Good morning!
The New York Times wonders if lesbian sex in literature and film is ever really that realistic. The writer finds that we're usually exploited.
The Australian interviewed Gigi Chao, who still loves her dad despite his trying to sell her to a man that could turn her straight. An excerpt:
I don't think you can be certain that homosexuality is something you are born with. I am more of the scientific point of view that sexuality and sexual identity are something that evolves. It is more of a fluid thing. It is like those fish that can change their gender on a whim. I think there is a fluidity in human sexual identity that can be affected by experiences in life. The 'born this way' argument is for Lady Gaga; I suppose it...

Good morning!
Northampton is going to be losing a piece of lesbian history, as a house at 66 Green St. that used to house many a gay Smith student is being demolished.
Here's a preview for next week's episode of The Killing with Bullett trying to help police find her friend, Callie.
Mistresses Jes Macallan says there's "definitely chemistry" with her character and lesbian Alex on the show. We know! But I have to say, I hate how they dress Alex. She was wearing some crazy culotte ensemble last night that made me cringe.
This Disclosure music video is from last year, but a reader sent it in saying we all missed it somehow! And I agree with her that it's worth watching.
Selena Gomez was at La Gay Pride. Did you make out with her?...

I mean, seriously! Lesbian is a good option! I think that that is not her focus at this point.

Congratulations are in order to Tegan and Sara (Best Long Form Video, "Get Along"), Rachel Maddow (Best Spoken Word Album, Drift), Ellen DeGeneres (Best Spoken Word Album, Seriously...I'm Kidding), Joan Osborne (Best Blues Album, Bring it On Home) and Sia (Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, "Wild Ones.") I really can't wait to watch now! February 10 is too far away.

If you’re a regular reader of this column, you know that my daughter, Alixandra Gould – yes, she’s keeping her name – married the love of her life, Jeffrey Christopher Gonzalez, last week. (A big thank you! to Mike Gold for posting a beautiful column last week that I posted on Facebook, then e-mailed to every single person I’ve ever met just to make sure they read it, and which Alix and Jeff thought was terrifically cool.) So of course I decided to write about superhero marriages this week. Not a big leap, is it?
I just finished googling “superhero marriages.” There were “about” 7,750,000 hits in 0.23 seconds, the most recent being a slide show in the Huffington Post posted only four days ago – well, five days ago since this appears on Monday – on November 9, 2011 titled “Comic Book Weddings: 8 Of Our Favorite Superhero Weddings.” In order, they are (1) Spider-Man, a.

St. Trinian's II: The Legend of Fritton's Gold
Opens: 2010
Cast: Colin Firth, Rupert Everett, David Tennant, Gemma Arterton, Talulah Riley
Director: Oliver Parker, Barnaby Thompson
Summary: A rollercoaster-style treasure hunt for the legendary Fritton’s Gold ensues as the feisty and ever-resourceful schoolgirls of St Trinian’s face their most fearsome establishment rivals yet - the villainous Pomfrey and his sidekicks from the women-hating secret society known as AD1.
Analysis: While it didn't travel much beyond the UK, 2007's reboot of the "St Trinian's" franchise nearly doubled its £7 million production budget in sales in the UK alone - making it one of the top grossing independent British films of the past decade. Reviews were decidedly mixed but generally pretty weak at the time, so the greenlighting of a sequel surprised quite a few.
Despite a critical drubbing, the core audience of young British teenage girls seemed to be satisfied by...

Rob Schneider is doing a romantic comedy, but don't worry nobody's getting romantic with him. Instead it sounds like he's doing the equivalent of one of his Adam Sandler cameos, only You May Not Kiss the Bride isn't a Sandler film. Hr says he'll play Ernesto, a daredevil helicopter pilot in Tahiti. You May Not Kiss the Bride is is about an American pet photographer mixed up with Croatian gangsters on his honeymoon with a mobster's daughter. Dave Annable, Vinnie Jones, Katharine McPhee, Mena Suvari, Tia Carrere and Ken Davitian are already on board the film. No word on who's playing the lead. As long as it's not Schneider, we should be safe. Rob sucks as a leading man but he's occasionally funny when his screen time is limited to under five minutes, or when he's hidden behind the considerable bulk of Sylvester Stallone on a flying motor scooter in...

I have always been a fan of quirky ensemble casts--remember Southland Tales anyone? They don't necessarily always work, but it definitely can be fun to watch them try. But more often than not, it's squirm-inducing. Something tells me that the cast assembled for the Rob Hedden-directed romantic comedy You May Not Kiss The Bride will most likely be squirm-inducing. Fellow Hollywood relics Mena Suvari and Tia Carrere will join Borat's fat boyfriend Ken Davitian, Vinnie Jones, Katherine McPhee...

This week is something of a nostalgia trip with a period comedy, Freddie Prinze Jr. and a concert documentary about a group of men who, by all the laws of man and nature, should not still be alive and walking around.
"The Flight of the Red Balloon"
After being nominated for the Palme d'Or an incredible five times at Cannes, it's no wonder that director Hou Hsiao-hsien has become a Francophile. In his first film outside of Asia, the "Three Times" auteur directs the country's first lady of cinema, Juliette Binoche, in a story about an overburdened mother who receives a much-needed lift from her son's Chinese nanny (Song Fang) as they turn the City of Lights into a magical playground for the 7-year-old Simon . a tribute to Albert Lamorisse's 1956 short. In French with subtitles.
Opens in limited release.

Justin Ditched by Alyssa
Pop prince Justin Timberlake is facing heartache, just nine-months after splitting from long-term love Britney Spears - he's about to be dumped by actress Alyssa Milano. According to British tabloid the Daily Star, Alyssa - who hooked up with the 'N Sync singer after his split with Britney - has swapped the clean-cut star for Limp Bizkit rocker Fred Durst. The Kiss The Bride star was spotted smooching with Durst on a secret date at Los Angeles' Whiskey Bar on Friday night. A fellow reveler says, "They were all over each other. They were kissing, holding hands and groping one another." But, according to the Alyssa's pals, the actress hasn't broken the news to Justin yet. A shocked friend told the Star, "Alyssa is done with Justin and has moved onto Fred. But she hasn't told him. It's disgraceful." It seems the age gap between Alyssa and Justin - she's 29 while he's a youthful 21 - proved to be the catalyst for the breakup. A pal explains, "Alyssa feels Justin's no longer a boy, but not yet a man, to paraphrase one of Britney's songs. She really likes him, but the reality is, she thinks he's just too young for her. She doesn't know how to tell Justin, but one things for certain - she's fallen head over heels for Fred."...
