From Ryan Gosling's jacket in Drive, through to Homer Simpson's Mr Plow: we salute pop culture jackets, and find out how much they cost...
Clothes are important. How you choose to dress your characters, or indeed yourself, can convey so much to the audience. You can explain entire parts of their background or their motivations wordlessly, with just a well chosen garment. Or sometimes, you can just give them a giant scorpion on their back because it looks awesome. Here then, is a list of the coolest jackets in movies, TV, games and comics (Note: Marty McFly wears a gilet, not a jacket, hence his non-appearance).
Kaneda in Akira
Katsuhiro Otomo’s 1988 sci-fi epic, based on his own manga, is almost definitely the most important anime of all time. Amongst all the action and destruction though, one element that is sometimes overlooked is Otomo’s depiction...

Jeremy Irons is in many respects the quintessential English film actor. That’s not simply because of the honeyed diction and innate elegance, but the versatility that has enabled him to travel with ease between romantic leading man, edgy character actor and sinister villain, towards an Indian summer of ever-dependable supporting player.

Think James Mason. In fact, Irons and Mason even have a role in common – the riskiest of roles, Nabokov’s infamous pedophile Humbert Humbert, Mason most famously in Kubrick’s “Lolita” of 1962, Irons for Adrian Lyne in 1997. It’s difficult to imagine many Americans jumping at a character who came second in Time’s “Top 10 Worst Fictional Fathers,” or possessing the nuance necessary to make us almost like the man.
Again like many Brits, Irons is classically trained (at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School,...

10 years ago, Superman looked a lot different onscreen. Kevin Spacey, not Jesse Eisenberg, was playing Lex Luthor. Kate Bosworth, not Amy Adams, was in the role of Lois Lane. And unknown actor Brandon Routh was starring as the Man of Steel. In retrospect, Superman was headlining a rather bright, campy movie when you look at his 2006 flick next to this year’s grimdark Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Superman Returns opened in theaters 10 years ago today. It didn’t manage to reboot the long-stagnant Superman property into a new franchise, as Warner Bros. hoped. The Batman v Superman title was being tossed around already during discussion for a sequel to Superman Returns. But the studio ultimately decided to move on from the Routh-Bryan Singer-et al. line-up. “Superman [Returns] didn't quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to,” then-wb president Jeff Robinov said in...

Even though Halloween will soon be behind us, that doesn’t mean November is without a few terror-filled tricks up its sleeve, particularly when it comes to genre films arriving on VOD throughout the month. Things kick off in grand style with the release of the creature feature Lavalantula courtesy of Alchemy, as well as the latest anthology, Mexico Barbaro, featuring eight Mexican directors coming together to give us their unique takes on various folklore and traditions.
Other films hitting VOD in November include The Hallow, Wrecker, Condemned, Deep Dark, Uncanny, Crumbs, Applesauce and the social media inspired thriller, #Horror.
Lavalantula (Alchemy) - November 3rd
After a dormant volcano erupts miles outside of Los Angeles, something within the molten hot lava is awakened. Birthed from the bowels of the Earth itself, arachnid-like creatures with an obsidian-black exoskeleton swarm out. One man, Colton West, a washed-up, former A-list action star, suddenly...

Crumbs
Miguel Llansó
Miguel Llansó
2015, Spain / Finland / Ethiopia
According to writer-director Miguel Llansó, Crumbs was created mostly on circumstance and coincidence which might explain why the film seems constructed as an assortment of random images and confusing scenes. But don’t let that scare you: Ethiopia’s first post-apocalyptic sci-fi feature (spoken in Amharic) is a technically stunning and emotionally wrenching directorial debut. There’s little narrative so to speak, but Crumbs does feature an eccentric love story and a dash of politically charged surrealism.
The film takes place in a distant wasteland and follows a physically malformed Candy (Daniel Tadesse) who resides in a rundown bowling alley with his girlfriend Birdy (Selam Tesfaye). Tired of his day-to-day routine salvaging and bartering artifacts from bygone civilizations, he embarks on a quest to find a prophetic “witch” in hopes that he can meet Father Christmas and ask the mythical figure about...

While we often lament some of the films that end up stuck in development Hell, never to become realized on the big screen, there are some films we should all be glad never came to fruition.
Sometimes they don’t get it! We all know that the film industry is a business and they want to make money, but Hollywood doesn’t always realize that the best way to do that is to make a good film. Sometimes, Hollywood’s habit of taking a known property and stretching them out to absurd proportions proves that they just don’t get the point. Fortunately, there are times when someone recognizes a bad idea and puts on the brakes. Below is a list of 14 films where someone was smart enough to notice that they were making a pile of trash and threw in the towel.

It’s not clear what’s going on at the start of Crumbs, except for the info imparted via opening titles, that we are in some sort of post-apocalyptic world, where mankind has lost the urge for survival. A little hunchbacked man treks across a fantastical, extraterrestrial-seeming landscape, finds a plastic Christmas tree, spots a uniformed Nazi in gas mask and sparkly Mickey Mouse ears, and takes to his heels. This is the first Ethiopian surreal science-fiction movie.
Things don’t get a great deal clearer. The little man, Candy (Daniel Tadesse) is a scavenger of some sort, living with his woman Birdy/Sayat (Salem Tesfaye) in a decrepit bowling alley, whose machinery starts to work again by itself, at the same time as the rusting spaceship hovering low in the sky starts to power up again. He decides he must go and consult the witch, and then travel to find Santa Claus who,...

Brooke Shields' first time was with Superman!
In her new memoir, There Was a Little Girl, the 49-year-old actress recounts her romances as a child star and reveals that her boyfriend Dean Cain was quite the gentleman when they dated. In an excerpt given to People magazine from the book, Shields recalls that she and Cain were "instantly crazy about each other," and confesses that she lost her virginity to the Superman star when she was 22.
"He was incredibly and painfully patient with me regarding sex," she says in her book. "I made him wait and wait and my mom kept track."

Superheroes need gadgets. Sure, some can get by on their powers alone (here’s looking at you Superman), but even they often need to turn to technology for help when it comes to fighting crime.
While the movies haven’t brought to life all the most outlandish devices used by some of Marvel and DC’s most recognisable characters, it’s still not hard to single out the ten best superheroes based on their gadget hauls! Here, we present to you our favourites, including a few you may not be expecting!

The summer just got hotter with the return of the “East Los High: Season 2!” Since the first class graduated they’ve had some bragging rights like being the number one show on Hulu Latino and top five overall in programming. Not too shabby for an all Latino cast who gained a legion of faithful fans called “ELHAddicts!” Well, there’s a new cast (and some familiar faces) to bring the ruckus to East Los High School! LatinoBuzz decided to welcome them by throwing them on a deserted island, (like we did these filmmakers Here ) to fend for themselves. They were allowed to pick a film, an album, a book and a companion from the movies to join them.
Andrea Sixtos
Film: That's an easy one… “Cast Away!” It's pretty much a survival guide on how to live on an island! I think I'd find it extremely resourceful. It's also one of my favorite movies, so it'd also be my entertainment. A two-in-one package, baby!
Album: I would take an album that would keep me relaxed, strong, hopeful and inspired just in case I start to lose faith that I'll ever get off the island. It would have to be “Diary” by Veronica Sixtos. I know it's my sister’s music and all but I'm not being biased. Her lyrics are so empowering, they give you strength and make you realize your worth in an honest and brave way. It would also remind me of the love I have for my family, which that in itself is all the inspiration I need to survive!
Book: I'm gonna be super practical with this one, I would bring the “Us Air Force Survival Handbook.” It covers shelter, nutrition, navigation, evasion, psychology, equipment, injury and illness. Boom! All I need. There's no way I'd be taking a fictional book when my life is at stake!
Companion: Katniss Everdeen from “The Hunger Games” of course! She's a survival genius. She can teach me everything she knows, and together, we'd become the strongest, smartest, deadliest, most wild women who ever lived. Who knows? Maybe we'll even build an island fortress and live there until we're ready to build a boat and leave.
Vannessa Vasquez
Film: I think, for me, it would have to be one of my all time favorite Disney movies "The Lion King.” One, it has great music to sing along to, and Simba also goes out to be on his own and meets Timon and Pumba. So if things ever get out of wack all I have to do is find some animal friends and sing "hakuna matata." That's pretty smart.
Album: Gloria Estefan's “Greatest Hits” album. Ever since I was a little girl one of my all time favorite artists has been Gloria. There's so much life in her music and it has an island feel to it. I can definitely see myself being stuck on a desert island singing, "Come on shake your body baby do that Conga!"
Book : My all time favorite book is “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. It’s a book about following your dreams, trusting that life has a plan for you, all you have to do is have faith. It has so much knowledge of the universe and our spiritual journeys. I can read that book over and over and get something new from it each time.
Companion : I’ve seen Jack Sparrow in action. I would love to have him as my companion. I would never get bored. He's super funny, smart and witty. He definitely knows how to fight, so he would be a good protector. Plus his black eyeliner makes him super sexy. If we ever had to keep humanity going that wouldn't be a problem!
Ray Diaz
Film : It would be “Rush Hour!” There’s enough action and comedy in this film to last a lifetime. Just thinking about Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker puts a smile on my face. Not to mention that they would probably inspire me to make a game out of my time on this lonely island. The only tricky part would be choosing one, two or three. But maybe if I’m lucky I could just have the box set.
Album: When it comes to music, I have such eclectic taste, but Nelly’s “Country Grammar” album would have to be the winner here. I remember this album getting me so many girls that maybe even on a deserted island it could give me the same kind of luck.
Book : “Quarterback’s Demon” written by C.K Laurence would be the book I choose. It was the first book I read when I started modeling and it inspired me to be more then what I thought I could be.
Companion : The winner is Tom Hanks in “Cast Away”. Think it about it — “Cast Away”, “Captain Phillips”, and “Saving Private Ryan”. Tom has got your back! He’s been in these situations so many times that it would be a play ground for us out there with, “Rush Hour” on the palm tree screen and Nelly’s "Country Grammar" bumping out of two big coconuts.
Alex Segal
Film: “The Wizard of Oz”... The movie has always held a special meaning for me. Growing up, I watched it all the time. It always made me feel content, calm and at ease… Not to mention I'm a big Judy Garland fan.
Album: At the moment I am beyond obsessed with Sam Smith's “In The Lonely Hour”. Such amazing stuff... Love what he's doing. But an all time favorite would probably have to be Mariah Carey's “The # 1’s.” Her music would probably distract me from remembering that I'm stuck on a deserted island!
Book: I read “The Power of Now” a while ago and still go back and re-read it. Whatever you're going through, it's important to know that your mind is extremely powerful. This book would probably help me get through a lot of obstacles while being on this island.
Companion I would bring: I would probably bring Angelina Jolie… Not only is she pretty bad ass, I would also want to see what she's like behind all of that... Woman empowerment!!!
Vivian Lamolli
Film : I am going with “Hair”, the 1979 war comedy-drama and film adaption of the 1968 Original Broadway Musical. I had the pleasure of playing Dionne in the Tony award-winning musical and that time just brought so much light to my life. Since I might be spending time alone, that magic of togetherness and closeness of the tribe depicted, would completely continue to give me a mindset of happiness, beauty and family...even if I were on my last coconut.
Album : As a musician, I have a very eclectic style that I listen to, write, and perform. I would be bringing along "Vivian's Delightful, Meditative, and Explosive Mixed Tape." The mixed tape would include Amy Winehouse "Back to Black," Kings of Leon "Sex On Fire," Frank Ocean "Forrest Gump," Marc Anthony "Vivir lo Nuestro," Celia Cruz "La Vida Es Un Carnaval," Crystal Lewis "People Get Ready," Justin Timberlake “Señorita," Christina Aguilera “Fighter," Lauryn Hill "Doo Wop, That Thing," Michael Jackson "Do You Remember the Time," Young the Giant "Cough Syrup," 1 Musical Theatre Song "In the Heights Finale," Stacy Orrico “Genuine," Natalie Imbruglia “Torn," Alanis Morissette "Head Over Heels," Radiohead “Creep," Fiona Apple "Paper Bag," No Doubt “Spiderwebs," Shakira "Dare You,” and Jason Aldean "My Kinda Party." I handpicked most of these songs to perform at one point or another and they still speak to me. Without music it is a bland world and that is the last thing I would want to recreate on a secluded island... let's spice it up a bit!
Book : When I imagine myself keeping the faith and hope on this island where times will get rough, I imagine reading the book of Proverbs. The Bible would keep me company and serve as a ray of sunshine when in the midst of despair. When I was a little girl my father was away a lot whether it be on missions for the military or just training for the next one. The books he would read to me and my sister were thin children's books; each was a different Bible story. Boy, did I love those moments and everything brings me back home thinking and reading these stories.
Companion : I choose Jared Leto to be my shipwrecked buddy. I've been not only impressed with the man for years, but he has always peaked my interest from speaking about work to personal experiences. To have that type of storyteller and lover of the world with me would be absolutely mind-blowing. I'm sure he would present many ideas of how to survive or how not to stress under the circumstances, and just live in our present state-of-being.
Ashley Campuzano
Film: "Pearl Harbor" directed by Michael Bay. "Pearl Harbor" does a great job of portraying how everyday lives were affected by the horrific incidents of World War II. The film even depicts details from the point of view of President Fdr at the time of battle, before and after.
Book: "The Great Gatsby" has been one of my favorite novels since the first time I read it in high school. F. Scott Fitzgerald's writing style made it an easy read and completely relatable to anyone who has ever been in or contemplated love. ‘Gatsby,’ although false to his name, stood by everything he wanted and never backed down. He was resilient and knew what he wanted and for that I respect what he went through.
Album: I listen to Selena almost everyday to remind myself of what a great role model she was to the Latino community. Not only was her music catchy and loved by millions but she moved us Latinos by what she stood for. Her legacy reminds us of what hard work can attain. She inspires me daily to work hard for what I want and to never give up on my dreams.
Companion: I am an easygoing person and all I truly desire is to be constantly entertained. To me, Jim Carrey is the ultimate comedian and I would enjoy spending the rest of my days laughing with someone as brilliant as him. His acting inspires me to push myself to the limit. His performances can be breathtakingly hilarious, or positively heartbreaking, and for that he wins my heart.
Rick Mancia
Film: For my film, I'm going with "The Pursuit of Happiness”. This movie really hits home for me. I saw my pops work & fight adversity to provide us with a better life, much like Will Smith's character in it. I love the feeling I get seeing people achieve their dreams after working so hard despite adversity and keeping hope through it all. If I were stranded, hope is the only thing that would keep me going.
Book: I’ve been a musician most of my life so I listen to it all. It’s hard to pick one album; can I take a 80Gb iPod? If I had to pick one, I would go with "Vheissu" by Thrice. It's such a well balanced album beyond its time (2005). It’s one of those albums and bands that take you on an emotional roller coaster and that’s what I aim to do, make people feel things they're not used to feeling!
Album: Since I only read books from the Self Help section, I would choose "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle. I'm a believer that now is the only moment. Therefore to keep myself sane on an island I'd have to be in the moment, thinking about how I got there would cause depression, thinking if I will ever get out would cause anxiety, but dealing with the tasks at hand would provide the most peace of mind possible.
Companion: I’m going to be cliché for my companion and go with Chuck Noland played by Tom Hanks in “Castaway.” Why? Well, I’m trying to survive and I don’t want to die! He seemed to do Ok and I'll need all the help I can get. And on the bright side, we'll be BFFs and have no need for Wilson.
Jeremy Chavarria
Film: It would probably be something romantic like “Twilight” or “The Notebook.” If I'm on an island with one person (a girl of course) the film would create a nice setting to go along with sounds of the waves, the sunset, coconuts, etc.
Album: You can't go wrong with Coldplay! “Parachutes” is one of my favorite albums. You just can't go wrong with them. Beautiful music with a beautiful setting and a beautiful woman. Can I get an “Amen?!”
Book: That's easy, my Bible! Arguably the most amazing love story ever told. Filled with lessons and examples of how to be better in all aspects of life in any given situation. My Foundation of who I am lies in that book. I can't live without it. My love letters in a book.
Companion: T hat's tough! From a film it would have to be Megan Fox. First name that came up to mind, but Superman would be cool.

It’s been a dozen years now since 2002, but thanks to VH1′s I Love the 2000s, we can be reminded of what a great year it actually was. Serena Williams was the No. 1 tennis player in the world, Jennifer Lopez’s latest breakup was in the headlines, and zombies were the latest craze at the movies.
Clearly, much has changed in the world since then.
Of course, in all seriousness, VH1 also spotlighted plenty of other nostalgia-worthy phenomena hyper-specific to 2002 and 2003—like the return of the movie musical, Nelly’s evergreen musical reason to take your clothes off, and...

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending the TCM Festival in Hollywood. I had a full weekend and got to enjoy the true movie experience---great movies projected on big screens with enthusiastic and appreciative audiences. Between films we'd emerge onto Hollywood Boulevard with its own movie being created live and in the moment. As comedian Dana Gould said in his introduction to Freaks "the Boulevard was the only place you are likely to stand next to Cher at the urinal in the men's room. Take a look at the schedule, Here
Among the celebrities I saw on the red carpet and clicked photos of were Maureen O'Hara (still gorgeous), Kim Novak, Shirley Jones and Margaret O'Brien---and in the background were Chaplins, Marilyns, Elvis, Michael Jackson and multiple copies of Spiderman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Iron Man, Star Wars characters, Transformers, Pirates (I heard one woman excitedly say, "Oh my god...it's Johnny Depp."), Mickey and Minnies and Elmo. In the parking lot elevator one night I stood next to a tall African American male, his Elmo head ticked under his arm next to his furry red body. I asked if he had a long and hot day. He told me that he comes around 4pm when it isn't so warm and works until midnight. "Do you do ok?"
"An average weekend brings in $700-800 and it is fun." I asked him what he does the rest of the week and he told me he created movie money props for films and sells copies on ebay.
I saw 17 films and three special events. What a pleasure to see classics projected on the big screen (a mix of 35mm and Dcp) to packed houses of appreciative fans. Once again I was impressed with the diversity of the audiences. Couples, young people and people of color far out-numbered the stereotype of middle aged white film geek guys. And they knew their movies.
I saw a few classics I had never seen --- Mary Poppins (when it came out in 1964 a left-leaning high school kid would not be caught dead seeing that) and The Best Years of Our Lives (I just never saw it--no excuses). Both were great for different reasons.
There were rare discoveries such as the pre-code Hat Check Girl (racy Ginger Rogers) and the powerful and all but forgotten The Stranger's Return directed by King Vidor withLionel Barrymore and Miriam Hopkins (when will someone do a major tribute?)
But the true revelation was the 1944 British comedy of mannersOn Approval . This was a joy of witty banter, great acting and certainly one of the most bizarre finales I have ever experienced with stuffed animal heads coming to life among other visions you have never seen. The first show sold out so an extra screening was scheduled and it too was full. Lucky or me I got in after being turned away from the first one. The film was restored by that hero of lost cinema, David Shepard.
I just got an email from Jessica Rosner that she will have a 35mm print available. There is also a BluRay and if there is enough demand the owners might consider making a Dcp.
She wrote:
“It is about two couples in Victorian England ( and Scotland) who try a shocking experiment in living together to see if they are "compatible" before marriage. The magnificent foursome is led by Clive Brook who also directed and adapted the famous play upon which it is based. The extraordinary Beatrice Lillie co-stars in one of her very few film appearances and she is aided by the lovely if oddly named Googie Withers and the always fine Roland Culver.
This Brand New print is from a negative made from a nitrate fine grain at the BFI. It is not flawless but it looks excellent.

Neither Superman nor the Lone Ranger can hold a candle to Kristin Scott Thomas, whatever she's in
Two aged American heroes saunter on to small screens this week. No surprise that the one fighting fit is Clark Kent himself, back in moneyed, near-machine-like condition in Zack Snyder's sturdy, appropriately metallic and largely humourless Superman update Man of Steel (Warner, 12). Less expected is that it's dustily unfashionable lawman The Lone Ranger (Disney, 12) who gets far the more thrilling film. Unjustly maligned by critics who smelled blood as inevitable commercial failure loomed, it re-emerges on DVD looking to harvest as cultish a following as any Disney mega-production can hope for.
Man of Steel may boast the airbrushed visual sheen and positively homoerotic muscularity that is Snyder's directorial signature, but it's otherwise focus-grouped to the nth degree: the dominant creative presence is not Snyder but producer Christopher Nolan, whose recent Batman trilogy set the tone of stern,...

Marching bands are having a pop culture moment! Videos have been popping up of some wildly impressive routines from college football marching bands highlighting music from Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, and Beyoncé. This past weekend, Ohio State University's marching band - locally nicknamed "The Best Damn Band in the Land" - put on a tribute to Hollywood blockbusters. The music is great, but the skilled formations in the shape of moving dinosaurs and Harry Potter on a broom are just crazy and amazing. Take a look at the performance, as well as the other recent shows that made headlines! Ohio State University's Tribute to Hollywood Blockbusters Starting with Superman's iconic logo and theme music, the Osu band made its way through several Hollywood classics, including Jurassic Park, at the school's Oct. 26 game. This is worth watching simply because they make a dinosaur - that walks! Michigan Marching Band's...

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's … the Ohio State Marching Band! Just a week after moonwalking into everyone's hearts - and social media - with its celebration of the 25th anniversary release of Michael Jackson's album Bad, the Ohio State Marching Band has done it again, this time during Saturday's halftime show of the Ohio State-Penn State football game. The new theme was Hollywood Blockbusters, and, in the midst of the main title to this year's Man of Steel, band members split into two groups, one of which formed a leaning building while the other created the figure of Superman,...

Hawaii set to move on marriage equality, Pope Francis speaks against Christians of ideology, could Martian Manhunter to become a Glbt super hero?
Jamie Dornan has been cast as Christian Grey, replacing Charlie Hunnam, who dropped out of the role. As a relatively unknown actor, this could break big for him. In 2006, when a model for Calvin Klein, he was called “The Golden Torso” which means he can pull off the nudity with ease.
New Mexico’s Supreme Court heard arguments in the marriage equality case yesterday. The lawyer for the Republican legislators opposing equality mostly argued a procreation defense, but at least one justice wasn’t having it. “Marriage is much more than a vehicle for natural procreation.” He then noted that the state doesn’t have a litmus test for heterosexual couples’ desire for children before they get married.

When we spoke to Hrithik on his recent trip to London to promote Krrish 3, we just had to ask him who his favourite superhero was. It came as no surprise that it was the Man of Steel – Superman! Superman is the one character whom Bollywood has attempted to present on screenin the past. There was even a full length film called Superman in 1987, which featured Puneet Issar as Superman and Dharmendra as his father. Govinda even slipped on the Superman cape and pants for Dariya Dil in 1988. Therefore Superman is no stranger to Bollywood.
Hrithik shared with everyone “I have truly been a fan of the superhero genre. My first movie in fact was Superman and my second was E.T, so I think somehow I have manifested both of those films in my life. The impact that they have had on my life, first and foremost is the fact...

The announcement that Ben Affleck will play Batman opposite Henry Cavill's Superman in Man of Steel 2 has triggered a wave of virtual cape swishing on Twitter
• Peter Bradshaw's reaction
• Gallery: Batman through the years
Twitter and the blogosphere have reacted to the news that Ben Affleck is to play Batman in the forthcoming Man of Steel sequel, and it's not all happy reading for the actor-turned-film-maker.
Swiftly after the announcement #BetterBatmanThanBenAffleck was trending across the world, with suggestions including MTV's Butthead, One Direction's Liam Payne, Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage.
Dismissive references to Affleck's previous turn as a superhero in the oft-maligned Daredevil abound, with commenters also weighing in with jibes about Matt Damon being offered a role, recollections of infamous turkey Gigli and even suggestions that Affleck's one-time squeeze Jennifer Lopez might now be offered the role of Catwoman – despite the fact that...

She's traveled inside an egg, added skin spikes to her shoulders and worn a dress made of meat, but this look on Lady Gaga may have us more confused than any other. We can't decide who or what the "Applause" singer resembles most in her black-and-white Balmain separates: a football player in full shoulder pads, an incredibly stylish superhero, or Michael Jackson! The giant shoulders on her mohair, mock neck top inspired our NFL look-alike call. Gaga could definitely survive some hits thanks to all that padding. But something about the chest plate style underneath that sweater says undercover crime fighter. We can't exactly see the famous six pack outline that Superman boats, but a giant S (or G in...

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released an new clip for Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 2, featuring The Joker, who is voiced by Michael Emerson. In the clip the villain makes a guest appearance on The Dave Endochrine Show, with the host voiced by Conan O'Brien. The movie comes out on January 29th, and I've heard from people that have already seen it that it's better than Part 1, so that should give you fans something to look forward to!

Batman (Peter Weller) rides in on his high horse rallying the "Sons of Batman" in this new clip from DC's animated film Batman: The Dark Knight Reuturns Part 2. It's always nice seeing Batman riding a horse.
The film is set to be released on DVD and Blu-Ray January 29th. I thought the first one was great, it's my favorite of DC's home entertainment film series, and I'm looking forward to getting part 2 of the story. You should check out the first part of this movie if you haven't already.

Warner Bros. has released the first action-packed clip from their animated film The Dark Knight Returns Part 2. I loved the first film, it's actually one of the best animated films that Warner Bros. Animation has put out, and I'm looking forward to Part 2! The clip features Batman taking on an army of police officers like a champion!
If you haven't seen the first part of this movie yet, you should check it out when you get a chance. Part 2 will be available to watch on January 29th, 2013. I'd freakin' love to eventually see a live action version of this story made!
With Gotham City back under his watchful eye, and accompanied by able sidekick Robin, Batman continues to battle crime – but his resurgence awakens a far worse evil at Arkham Asylum: The Joker. In the meantime, Superman has been dispatched by the President to halt Batman’s unsanctioned reign by whatever means necessary.

Ahead of the film’s September 25, 2012 bow on DVD and Blu-ray, Warner Bros. has released a fresh clip and new images from “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1″, the first part of their two-parter adaptation of the Frank Miller seminal limited series comics from the ’80s. The clip features Michael Jackson (no, not that Michael Jackson) providing the voice of Batman’s butler, Alfred, and Peter Weller as Bruce Wayne aka Batman. (Or is that Batman, aka Bruce Wayne, as has been long pointed out by the Joker?) Batman has not been seen for ten years. A new breed of criminal ravages Gotham City, forcing 55-year-old Bruce Wayne back into the cape and cowl. But, does he still have what it takes to fight crime in a new era? And yes, in case you were wondering, Superman (voiced by Mark Valley) will indeed show up in Gotham City in “Batman: The Dark Knight...

Films that gained a ‘cult following’ over the years, despite being unnoticed on release
Silsila
Yash Chopra is looked upon as the grandfather of candyfloss romance, an antithesis to the more ‘artistic’ genre of films. One wonders why. Here’s what his early films were about:
Unwed mothers and illegitimate children – Dhool ka Phool (1959)
Partition and the rise of Hindu fundamentalism – Dharmputra (1961)
Taut, song less thriller about a fugitive, a lone woman and a corpse – Ittefaq (1969)
A man who lives with his wife and the ‘other woman’, Hindi Cinema’s first Ménage à trois- Daag (1973)
In 1981, we had another of his equally risqué works, Silsila. Expectedly, sparks flew when the Screen God of the time shared screen space with the reigning diva. Rekha and Amitabh were quite an item on screen and allegedly, off screen too. The grapevine has it that Chopra was inspired to make Silsila on this relationship...

Before I spin the speculation spindle, I have a quick special edition “Latino-Review Recommends…” entry for you.
I recommend buying the Red Dragon Blu-ray/DVD. On it there is a documentary titled “A Director’s Journey: The Making of Red Dragon.”
Forget the film. The reason to own the disc is that documentary. It is 39 minutes of Brett Ratner living up to his reputation as a thick-skulled starfucker.
Using fly-on-the-wall footage chronicling the production of Red Dragon, the doc shows Ratner constantly on his cell phone, wheeling-and-dealing.
At one point Michael Jackson visits the set. It is a magical, cross-eyed glimpse into Hollywood.
Back to news:
According to an exclusive from Superman Super Site, Warner Bros. may be considering Brett Ratner for the Justice League job.
I think job is the operative word here. If the studio is seriously looking at Ratner, then they are hoping to hire a journeyman...

How excited is Blake Jenner about winning Season 2 of Oxygen’s The Glee Project and scoring a seven-episode arc on the Glee mothership? “I feel like doing a million of the Superman jumps that I did right after I found out that I won,” says the 19-year-old Miami native, who moved to Hollywood two years ago this September to live the life of a struggling actor. “A really, really struggling actor,” he adds with a laugh.

With a title like that, I'm sure to get a lot of hate for even suggesting such a notion. But here's the thing: I loved Tim Burton. He was my absolute favorite director until around 2001. The worlds he created held my attention in a deeper way than other filmmaker's. The oddball and macabre design, along with the melancholy atmosphere, were unlike anything I had seen in movies. It was as fantastical in imagination as any blockbuster, and it felt more ethereal and personal than the "Hollywood" spectacle of a Spielberg or Zemeckis film. He introduced me to ideas of retro kitsch, spooky fringe and proudly holding onto timeless obsessions of your youth. Burton is one of those early influences in my life that made me become a passionate movie lover. I can catch "Beetlejuice" or "Pee-wee's Big Adventure" at any moment on TV and immediately get sucked back into them.

Kanye West performs at Austin City Limits music festival

Austin, Texas — Kanye West is no stranger to the drama. So, it was fitting that on Friday at Austin City Limits — the final night of his ongoing tour in support of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy — he staged a passion play in three parts, complete with dramatic ballet sequences, a matinee idol-worthy entrance and monologues that dove into the artist's twisted psyche.
In other words, Kanye West closed out the first night of the fest in the soul-stirring way only he can: by commanding the stage almost entirely by himself and letting the dense tracks and shout-along verses do the heavy lifting.
Some rappers need a huge posse onstage to support them, or a 10-piece band and large stage sets.

Coming up on October 14th, is Y-Films second outing the fun and in a cool twist the social media based film Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge. Directed by Nupur Asthana, the film introduces Saqib Saleem, Saba Azad, Nishant Dahiya & Tara D’souza in what is being called this season’s most screwed up love-story.
So the story goes…
If Rahul the rockstar has got the voice and the looks, Vishal, the writer has the brains. If Malvika, the fashion design student and biker chick can get heads turning with just her looks, Preity, the photographer, can say a million things with her pretty pictures. What Vishal and Preity can’t do, is spell it out to Malvika and Rahul that they heart them.
But ‘Liking’ someone on Facebook is a lot easier. And when you can’t make it on your own, the best thing to do is to fake it. So,...

DreamWorks' furry friend leads the pack in its UK opening weekend, but dance movie sequel is out of step with the public
The winner
Twelve months ago box office was down in the dumps, with major studios giving June a wide berth thanks to World Cup football. This weekend last year, the "big" new releases were Letters to Juliet, Brooklyn's Finest and Greenberg. Sex and the City 2 topped the chart in its third week of release with a weak £1.49m.
Fast forward to 2011, and it's a different story. Four films all managed grosses above £1.5m at the weekend, and overall the market is an impressive 149% up on the same frame from 2010. Leading the way is Kung Fu Panda 2, with £6.19m, including previews of £3.12m. DreamWorks Animation will be reasonably content with the result, as this compares with a debut of £6.07m, including £2.96m in previews, for the original Kung Fu Panda three summers ago.

As promised, Lady GaGa has released one of the two music videos she made for her charting single "Born This Way". Directed by fashion photographer Nick Knight, the clip is loaded with pop culture references which are spread throughout the 7 minutes plus video in blinks.
"This is the manifesto of Mother Monster," GaGa says of the effects-heavy video. "Thus began the beginning of the new race. A race within the race of humanity, a race which bears no prejudice, no judgment, but boundless freedom." The singer is styled by Nicola Formichetti and choreographed by Laurieann Gibson.
Shots of unicorn, late designer Alexander McQueen, Michael Jackson, Rick Genest aka Zombie Boy and Madonna's tooth gap were all included along with scenes from "Sin City", 1978's "Superman" and 1927's "Metropolis".
"Born This Way" is the first single from GaGa's May album of the same title. She told Gayle King previously about the other video that she planned.

In a rare moment of internet pseudo-irony coming to real-life fruition, an online campaign has successfully raised $50,000 to build a RoboCop statue in the city of Detroit. Pete Hottelet, founder of Omni Consumer Products (the group building the statue), answered some critical questions about the Detroit Needs A RoboCop project and what the statue will look like: Gun or no gun? Again, going back to the reasoning along the same lines as the Superman statue. Superman has deadly heat vision, and he uses it when necessary, but the concepts and ideals that he stands for are not irrevocably tied to the use of deadly force. Ummm…not to argue semantics here, but have you seen Robocop? He shoots literally everyone in the movie, including multiple gaffers, production assistants, and the “I’d buy that for a dollar!” What-tv-In-The-Future-Is guy. Building a RoboCop statue without a gun would be as pointless...

Better pre-order those pink and blue Louboutin baby stilettos now: Mariah Carey announced the sex of her twins. According to their press release to Life & Style, Carey will be birthing a fabulous little boy and girl with happy husband Nick Cannon, who revealed Mariah’s due date will be late April or early May. “Even before we announced it was twins, I was trying to keep everything gender-neutral because I didn’t want to impose an identity on them too soon,” Mariah gushed. “There were fan contests on Twitter about what gender they are and rumors about them being two boys or two girls – but nobody guessed this!” Given that we know their sex, can we start imposing an identify on them now? Like, Fiercest Fetuses Ever, or Infants Most Likely To Have Rhinestone-Encrusted Baby Toys?
Cannon confirms baby names have been picked out, but there isn’t an Apple in the bunch.

Megamind is no How to Train Your Dragon. On the upside, it’s also not Shark Tale or any other grunt-of-the-litter Dreamworks picture. This supervillain satire is more in the vein of Monsters vs. Aliens. There’s plenty of expected hit and miss moments, but it’s a surprising mild success. It swings heavily from being clever to on-the-nose and makes for a fluffy B-version of The Incredibles.
The set-up of this superhero/villain satire is taken directly from Donner’s ’78 Superman. When a planet is on the verge of destruction, a couple (one voiced briefly by Justin Theroux) send their son to the only possible place: earth. The child sent isn’t the hero though, but rather a villain with an oversized head and flamboyant fashion sense who coins the appropriate name Megamind (Will Ferrell). While the baby Megamind is on route to earth via mini spacecraft he crosses...

Comic book characters will stay on the screen, but not in the streets
Superheroes are being asked to give up their costumed identities today on the streets of Los Angeles, according to Ktla News.
The Walk of Fame sidewalk along Hollywood Blvd. between Highland and Orange has, for years, been the site of costumed panhandling and was featured in the 2007 documentary, Confessions of a Superhero.
Characters range from popular heroes like Batman and Superman to horror icons like Michael Myers and Chucky (played, terrifyingly, by a masked midget). Some are regulars and some appear only for brief periods. Avatar's release late last year saw a rash of Na'vi while a near-perfect Michael Jackson lookalike has been dancing on his Walk of Fame star since the singer's death.
The performers skirt legality by asking tourists to "tip" them rather than charge for photos outright. Now, police officers have begun cracking down on the enterprise,...

The ultimate shame of Paper Man is not the regrettable plotting, the lame characters, or the sheer pointless mopery of the film, but the fact that such a project is wasting a remarkably talented cast. Seriously, it was like watching someone line a birdcage with Monet paintings. Like an infant lulled by the bright colors of "Yo Gabba Gabba," I was easily distracted by the shiny actressin'. But then it occurs to you that you're watching an incredibly shitty replica of Dan in Real Life or Yes Man. It's just another boring ass, middle-aged crisis flick about an older man trying to grow up through a relationship with a teen stranger that happens to benefit from awesome actors. It tries to fool everyone by plastering in forced whimsicality in an attempt to seem Kaufmanesque, but instead it just becomes confused and bitter and depressing. Had the story focused on the...
