    Great production team

What happens when a team of friends pull together a great story and a solid collective effort in Columbus, Ohio? Why, it's "Solve For X." A group of film makers with smashing backgrounds in cinema (Scott Spears, Bill Pivetta, John Whitney, etc) pooled their equipment and time together to create this b&w 35mm short during the winter months in Columbus Ohio. It's cold in Columbus, and most of the characters are nonactors, but the story is complete and the cinematography is experienced. Humorous nods go to the hit-man's love of 100 piece puzzles and his affinity for Mentos. Special thanks to Scott and Bill for teaching this film at their class at Appalachian. It's an invaluable model for low budget movie making.

    great film

Solve for X is by far one of the best short films I have ever seen. It has a great story that is dark and cryptic. It's also wonderfully shot and has a great feel to it. John Whitney did a terrific job making this film and I would love to see more of his work. If you haven't seen this movie, it really is a must see film.

Mysterious characters, beautiful imagery, skillful direction and a plot that weaves itself together nicely

I really enjoyed this film by John Whitney. The cinematography was simple and perfect, it looks GOOD! The pace was effective and Rafael Rosado was perfect for his part. I had to watch it a second time to figure out exactly what happened, and then I watched it a third time because it made my eyeballs feel good! A perfect example of what is possible in lil' ol' Columbus, Ohio!
