The creator of this series was Mamoru Sasaki, known for his work in the original Ultraman as well as his collaborations with controversial director of the Japanese New Wave, Nagisa Ôshima.
As of 1972, this has been the last tokusatsu series to be sponsored by Takeda Pharmaceutical, which has sponsored many famous tokusatsu TV series including Gekkô kamen (1958), Ultra Q (1965), Ultraman: A Special Effects Fantasy Series (1966), and Ultraseven (1967).
