Supreme Warrior is a Full Motion Video game that was released by Digital Pictures responsible for other titles within the same genre, for CD based consoles ( 3DO, Sega CD, PC, etc ) that combines elements of combat and interactive film. Supreme Warrior managed to combine interactivity with full-motion video. Overall, it was an interesting concept. But, the technological capabilities at the time were still a bit primitive for the most part. Because of this, the graphics were good but not great. At the same time, it is understandable.

This is a fighting game that is played in first-person view. I found the game play to be a little tricky, cause the game was set at a high difficulty level for some reason, and you need to be really patient. It takes some time getting used to, but if you have the patience to continue playing, Supreme Warrior is a good game that delivers what it promises.

I have seen and played just about every version from Sega CD, 32XCD, the 3DO, the PC, and the Apple Macintosh, and i found that the best response time when you would execute a move came from the Sega Cd and 32X Versions, while the 3DO had better graphics, the response time was slow for some reason. Never the less the game play was rather interesting on all the versions and also the footage differed too.

Conclusion - Supreme Warrior is a game that tests out a variety of interesting concepts. In a sense, this could be considered a classic some day. If you want to play something original, and you enjoy Fmv games then, check out Supreme Warrior.

The game play is rather interesting in Supreme Warrior that it consists of digitized video with interactive elements. At many points during the video, you can unleash a punch, kick, or block. If your timing is correct, you inflict damage on your opponent. If you timing is off, your opponent hurts you.

The wearer of this mask will be granted untold power. The villainous Fang Tu has the other half of the mask, and wants the player character's half.

Supreme Warrior was filmed on Shaw Brothers Studio sets in Hong Kong and some major talent was brought in for the martial arts scenes such as Richard Norton and Vivian Wu. The story is pretty simple, something you would expect from your typical martial arts B movie.

Full motion video games had their limitations and it's ultimately why the genre had a brief spark before dying out. Released for generally every gaming console of its generation, Digital Pictures 'Supreme Warrior' was an attempt to merge fighting with FMV to mixed results. Fans of martial arts flicks will get the most from the concept here.

Directed by an established stuntman this certainly captures the feel of a movie, but as a game probably sounded better on paper than the final product. You get recognizable faces in Vivian Wu, Ron Yuan & Richard Norton in the typical story of evil bad guys and two halves of a powerful magical mask which is serviceable in pursuit of fights.

However no getting around the disjointed feel of things. You watch POV from your hero savior perspective as you do battle with evil warlords and their guards. A constant stream of video comes your way and you have to learn the hit spots to defeat your opponents. Successful hits will then cut to a quick separately filmed one-two sec video of it landing / reaction before back to the continuing "main" video.

A lot of talented fighters in 'Supreme Warrior' and the choreography is good as is the atmosphere. Those things draw you in and give the game some life, but the timed nature of the gameplay feels clunky. FMV rail shooters didn't expose the limitations of the format quite as badly. You weren't meant to fight or play sports as this and other titles showed.
