Trivia
Barbara Connell wrote the script based on a Australian film. The production company Echo Bridge bought the rights to the concept in 1994. The story originally revolved around two earthquakes, the San Francisco earthquakes of 1989 and 1906, but when Echo Bridge decided to relocate its headquarters from Boston to Miami Beach's Lincoln Road Mall in 1996, Cornell rewrote the story to fit the new South Florida location.
