One girl can make a difference. But can you imagine how much more of a difference she can make with a dinosaur on her side? Well, a tyrannosaurus rex may not be ideal for every situation, but Lunella Lafayette is happy to have Devil Dinosaur with her as she fights crime in the Lower East Side of New York City in the upcoming Disney Channel series "Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur."
Based on the 2015 Marvel comic series by Brandon Montclare, Amy Reeder, and Natacha Bustos, which was a sequel to Jack Kirby's "Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur" from 1978, the animated series will follow the 13-year-old super-genius as she transports the T-rex through a time vortex to the present to help her take on the villains of the modern day. And though the project has been in development for some time at this point, the recent D23 Expo has finally...

Animation luminary Fred Seibert’s FredFilms will team up with Chinese content production firm DeZerlin Entertainment for an incubator projected called “Hot Pot! Cartoons,” which hopes to bring emerging Chinese talent and content out to the global market.
In the project, FredFilms’ U.S.-based development and production team and Qingdao-headquartered DeZerlin will supervise up-and-coming Chinese creators to develop animated shorts for global distribution.
“Often what’s happening with Western animation producers is we’re looking to get a toehold into the China market because it’s so large. And that’s fine, but it always makes me go, ‘Ok, well, what’s going on there that we can bring here, rather than vice versa,’” Seibert told Variety.
The serial entrepreneur has been taking an incubator approach to animation for almost 30 years, focusing on cultivating seven-or-so-minute shorts that can then go on to spin off into major series. As president of Hanna-Barbera in the 1990s,...

It’s no surprise that director/animator Genndy Tartakovsky has become the cinematic leader of 2D TV animation. Going against the grain of the great dialogue-driven, comedic animation that dominates TV, Tartakovsky has instead offered bold visual storytelling that borrows heavily from movies and comics. Indeed, with both his Emmy-winning “Samurai Jack” and current Adult Swim series, “Primal,” the Russian émigré has achieved a masterful minimalism that is rare for TV. He has not only displayed stunningly graphic action, but also expressive silence. “As my career has been progressing, I feel that my timing has become slower and slower because I want to get to that level where you’re really looking at something,” Tartakovsky said. “Genndy has always been one of my animation heroes,” said director Jorge Gutierrez, who is currently developing the fantasy/adventure series, “Maya and the Three,” for Netflix. “He’s also an incredible role model...

There has been much debate about whether Nickelodeon has been copied by other studios, such as Disney and Cartoon Network, or if they just provided inspiration for very similar shows. For instance, is “Too Loud” copying “The Loud House?” What about “Puppy Dog Pals” and “Paw Patrol?” Is “Robotboy,” a copy of “My Life as a Teenage Robot?” And then there’s “Rocko’s Modern Life” and “The Amazing World of Gumball.” Can you guess which shows copied “Spongebob Squarepants,” “Fairly OddParents,” and “Team Umizoomi?” The answers may surprise you.

Sunday July 15th is the last day of Comic-Con 2012, and most of us will be completely worn out looking like Spider-Man in the image above. Chances are he's asleep under that mask. Sunday has always been a cool down day for us, we kind of just try to relax a little bit more and enjoy it. That doesn't mean their isn't anything to see or do though!
We've got a Fringe screening and Q&A, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer 20th Anniversary, Sons of Anarchy, the annual Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical screening, and more! I've always wanted to go the Buffy musical sing-a-long, but am usually trying to leave San Diego before it starts.
Just a little reminder, we will be having our annual GeekTyrant meet up this year to meet our readers, which is something we always enjoy doing! That will take place on Wednesday night, and...

Burbank-born artist Carlos Ramos (storyboard artist and writer on Dexter's Labratory, ChalkZone, My Life as a Teenage Robot, The X's, and Ni Hao Kai-lan) is presenting a solo exhibition of his Stanley Kubrick-inspired artwork at the Copro Gallery from July 10th until August 3rd. 11 years after the death of Stanley Kubrick, Ramos pays homage to the man who wrote and directed such films as A Clockwork Orange, Dr. Strangelove, The Shining and 2001: A Space Odyssey by transforming the galley into a retrospective space with graphic pieces celebrating the greatest and most respected filmmaker in history. Ramos faces his longtime obsession with Kubrick by painting interpretations of his films including the white-on-white habitations of 2001 to the Native American carpet patterns of The Shining to the matching white Droog uniforms in A Clockwork Orange. The emptiness and humanity of Stanley Kubrick's subjects and characters and unique spacial design come...

Nick retools with five new series
NEW YORK -- Nickelodeon will add five new series to its schedule, the cable network said Wednesday at its upfront presentation at Manhattan's Roseland Ballroom. The programs range from an update of the Rugrats franchise to a live-action vehicle for father-son rappers Master P and Lil' Romeo. With an annual programming budget of upwards of $120 million, the top-rated kids network is looking to put more distance between itself and also-rans like Cartoon Network. "We haven't seen any of the erosion at all that most of our competitors felt," Nick senior vp ad sales Jim Perry said. The network unveiled a trio of new primetime animated series, including All Grown Up, a Rugrats spinoff that reimagines the characters as adolescents; My Life as a Teenage Robot, which chronicles the title character's attempts to balance saving the planet with high school; and Danny Phantom, about a boy who turns into a half ghost, unbeknownst to his ghost-hunting father.
