Many journalists have pressed Donald Trump and his campaign on the Gop presidential frontrunner’s claim that “thousands and thousands” of New Jersey Muslims cheered while watching the World Trade Center towers collapse on 9/11. They’ve relied on the basic journalistic premise that a handful of celebrating Muslims — as multiple sources have confirmed — is far different than thousands. But two stories posted Wednesday on Breitbart.com, including one headlined “Trump 100% Vindicated: CBS Reports ‘Swarm’ On Rooftops Celebrating 9/11,” try to back up the Republican presidential candidate using magical math, generous leaps of the imagination and alterations of Trump’s actual claims.

Last week we reminisced about Vito Russo with two related docs: the essential The Celluloid Closet and the 2011 HBO doc Vito. This week we turn from a pivotal figure in silver screen Lgbt history to a pivotal one for the small screen. I’m talking, of course, of Lance Loud, who famously came out in An American Family in 1973 when the Loud family became the subject of a PBS docuseries, what many deem to be one of the first reality shows in American TV. Directed by Shari Springer Berman & Robert Pulcini, Cinema Verite (watch on HBOGo) follows the behind-the-scenes drama behind that infamous and breakthrough program.
For Americans, as we saw last week, many of the images they saw of homosexuals on movie screens were outright stereotypes. But they really paled in comparison to the images they were getting from the media. In 1967, CBS aired The Homosexuals an episode of CBS Reports.

A sprinkler on Universal Studios theme park property was gushing water Friday near the 101 Freeway, CBS reports. A cellphone video showed the sprinker running around 1:15 p.m. alongside the 101 near Barham Boulevard in Universal City, raining down water onto vehicles. In light of California's current drought, outdoor watering is prohibited from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to the L.A. Department of Water and Power. An NBCUniversal rep told CBS that a broken sprinkler was to blame and has now been fixed. Read More "When I Pee, I Don't Flush": How Hollywood Is

At an early screening of Inside Out, CBS reports, there wasn't a dry eye in the 4,000-person house. That seems to be the prevailing response to the movie, which follows the anthropomorphized emotions that occupy the mind of a middle-school girl, Riley, who just moved cities with her family. In New York, David Edelstein calls the movie “tear-duct-draining.” A.O. Scott warns New York Times readers that viewers older than the 11-year-old protagonist “are likely to find themselves in tears.” Jack Coyle of the Associated Press asks, “Who better” — than Pixar — “to remind us of the value of a good cry?” Sentimental themes like the passage of time, homesickness, and social exclusion might make Inside Out an obvious tearjerker, but this is hardly the first Pixar movie to earn that label. In “Dear Pixar: Stop Making Me Cry Like A Bitch,” Deadspin writer and grown man Drew Magary admits to breaking...

This has become an interesting debate among investors as they await more details about yesterday’s deal, which they expect to hear on Wednesday when CBS reports its Q4 earnings. Most analysts are cheering the one-year agreement (potentially two if the NFL wants), and company shares are up nearly 4.2% since Tuesday’s close. They agree that CBS’ finances should fare well from the commitment to present eight Thursday night NFL games — simulcast with the NFL Network — this fall. The price CBS paid, estimated at less than $300M, “should allow CBS to make a small profit on the deal” as it “all but guarantees that CBS will win each night of the M-f ratings war,” says Ubs’ John Janedis. CBS will sell the ads for the broadcast and cable telecasts and that “will bolster CPMs for those spots,” Nomura’s Anthony Diclemete says. (NFL Network will sell ads for eight subsequent...

Acting may have led Tom Hanks to his Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis. The actor sat down with David Letterman for "The Late Show" on Monday, where he opened up about his health scare -- telling the talk show host that he's decided to just live with it. "My doctor said, 'Look, if you can weigh as much as you weighed in high school, you will essentially be completely healthy. You will not have Type 2 diabetes.' And then I said to her, 'Well, then, I’m gonna have Type 2 diabetes because there is no way I can weigh as much as I did in high school,'" he said on the show. Hanks also revealed that he weighed just a mere 96 lbs back when he was a teen -- which Tom believes is impossible, now at 57 years old.CBS reports that the drastic changes in his weight for work may have predisposed him to the disease.
