Director Graham Ralph took inspiration from the villainous Siamese cats, Si and Am, in Lady and the Tramp (1955) when animating the hungry Siamese cat who chases Babs the hamster in the film.
Becky Taylor recorded the song "You Can Be A Hero" for this film when she was just 13 years old. It was Taylor's first professional song she ever recorded as a recording artist. She has since changed her stage name to Riva Taylor, and continues to sing professionally.
This movie takes place in the town of Tetbury in Gloucestershire, England. Director Graham Ralph set the story in that town because he always loved animating real places, and it gave the story a sense of reality. Plus, Ralph loved the beautiful stone and the architecture of Tetbury particularly.
According to Barbara Windsor, Jimmy Hibbert wrote the story with her in mind to play Babs the hamster.
