Josh Hartnett played the role of nuclear physicist Ernest Lawrence in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. He starred alongside Matt Damon in the film, who gave him advice on how to approach the role. Damon played Lt. General Leslie Groves in the film. The only problem was the advice turned out to be completely unhelpful for the Pearl Harbor actor.

The original Doughtlander may not be over, but Outlander: Blood of My Blood hopes to close the gap.
For sure, it will be taking over where Outlander leaves off, even if it explores a story long before Jamie and Claire were figments of their parents' imagination.
Here’s what we know bout Blood of My Blood Season 1 so far.
What is Outlander?
It’s best to start with what we know, which is what came before. Outlander is based on a series of books by author Diana Gabaldon.
Outlander is a time-traveling love story between 20th-century (married) nurse Claire Beauchamp Randall Fraser and 18th-century Jamie Fraser.
When visiting the ancestral home of her husband, Frank, Claire stumbles through the rocks at Craigh na Dun, which takes her back in time.
Unable to easily find her way back, the sassy lady leans on handsome laird Jamie for protection, and soon, they are in love.

With its list of new releases for July 2023, Prime Video is going to help you stay safe from the oppressive July sun.
Highlighting the Amazon Originals on the TV side this month are two heavy hitters. The first is The Horror of Dolores Roach on July 7. Based on a podcast of the same name, this series could best be described as a modern day Sweeney Todd? Why, you ask? Well you know why. Think about it. Then season 2 of Neil Gaiman adaptation Good Omens premieres on July 28. This season will follow angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tenant) as they seek to keep the Archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) away from both heaven and hell.
There aren’t any Amazon Original movies of note this month and that’s alright as the influx of library titles is more than enough. July 1 sees the arrival of The 40-Year-Old Virgin, No Country for Old Men,...

Christopher Nolan and Josh Hartnett will collaborate for the first time on Nolan's highly anticipated film "Oppenheimer," but this was not the first time that the director has tried to cast the elusive Hartnett. In fact, the actor was offered the titular role in Nolan's 2005 film "Batman Begins," and much to Nolan's chagrin, he turned it down.
Nolan had yet to direct a major blockbuster, but his Batman entries would become some of the most successful superhero movies to date. Why would Hartnett refuse to play such a legendary character?
Well, for one thing, the actor was overwhelmed with his newfound success following Michael Bay's "Pearl Harbor," released in 2001. "The intensity of my sudden fame was overwhelming for me," he confessed to Playboy in 2015, "and in the middle of that, I felt I couldn't trust any new person I met or their motives." This made him gravitate towards...

Obsession is the marrow of erotic thrillers, from the sublime (“Fatal Attraction”) to the ridiculous (“Obsessed”), the hey-not-so-bad (“Sleeping with the Enemy”) to the very-bad-indeed (“The Boy Next Door”), to the auteur-crafted (Tyler Perry’s “Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor”) to the Netflix-knockoff (“Fatal Affair”). This sub-genre is so abundant that in “Fatale,” its latest victim (an appropriately jittery Michael Ealy) once played the unhinged baddie in another film about physical intimacy gone very much awry (“The Perfect Guy”).
That said, despite the ample availability of films that are built on the concept of “guilty pleasures” and delight in unspooling wacky-crazy, sex-mad, unhinged freakfests, the telling of their stories can contain all the freshness of data entry. We have someone attractive who’s blessed with an equally attractive spouse, a good job, a lovely home, maybe some cute kids, and then they to decide to bone someone they...

After a stratospheric rise to stardom in the late ‘90s and early 2000s, Josh Hartnett settled down. Since then, much has been made of his escape from Hollywood and the roles he was allegedly offered and turned down. Much less has been made of the good work he did in smaller fare around that same time. Films like Paul McGuigan’s Wicker Park, Rod Lurie’s Resurrecting The Champ, and Austin Chick’s August come to mind––all underrated pictures that deserve a larger audience.
Over a decade later, Hartnett, now 42 years old, is more versatile than ever before. Following an impressive three-season run on the Showtime series Penny Dreadful and a slew of smaller films of wide-ranging genres, he now plays real-life journalist Victor Malarek in Daniel Roby’s Most Wanted. The film, arriving digitally this week, is based on the story of Alain Olivier and his illegal arrest...

In 2001, at 22, Josh Hartnett was supposed to become the next Leonardo DiCaprio or Matt Damon. His back-to-back roles in Michael Bay’s “Pearl Harbor” and Ridley Scott’s “Black Hawk Down” catapulted him onto the A-list. He graced magazine covers, the paparazzi stalked his personal life and directors pursued him for blockbusters and comic-book vehicles. But it was too much.
Instead of studio projects, Hartnett spent the rest of his 20s veering toward independent movies — such as “Wicker Park,” “Lucky Number Slevin” and “The Black Dahlia.” He turned down the role of Superman in Bryan Singer’s 2006 reboot (which starred Brandon Routh instead) and he was on Christopher Nolan’s short list to play Batman (before Christian Bale).
Then he seemed to fall off the public radar. In the last decade, he’s resurfaced here and there, in some short films and small indies. Hartnett co-starred in “Penny Dreadful,” the...

As a writer and producer, Dean Devlin has had a hand in some of the highest profile projects of the last quarter of a century. Universal Soldier, Stargate, Independence Day, Godzilla – all have been revisited repeatedly by Devlin and others, in numerous media. This is why – even though he is not the most prolific filmmaker – when he sets up a new property, people pay attention. We pay even more attention, when he casts an actor like David Tennant (Doctor Who, Jessica Jones), in a thriller like Bad Samaritan.
The script comes from Brandon Boyce, who previously wrote effective dramas Apt Pupil and Wicker Park. It centres on two young men working as car valets, who use their position to rob the homes of their customers. Inevitably, they eventually rob the wrong home, and face some unexpected consequences.
The first thing that is very clear about this movie is that it is about men.

Chicago – No one would call talented one-man-show artist John Michael conventional, at least if they are in their right mind. So ironically, after tackling sexually transmitted disease in his last solo performance, he takes on the vagrancies of old age and caring for elderly patients in his truly heartfelt “Dementia Me.”
“Dementia Me” will run at the Den Theatre within the Wicker Park neighborhood in Chicago from August 15th through September 12th, 2016, on consecutive Mondays at 8pm (details below). This solo performance is a tour de force, using mostly balloons and party favors for props – Michael even invites everyone to a “birthday party” for one of the patients before the show. The emotions in the show will affect anyone who has known the heartbreak of seeing loved ones become less of themselves as they age (which is practically everybody), and how that state of being leads the main character himself to other revelations.

Death Waltz went back to the Warner archives where Tal Miller cut brand new vinyl masters for the Twin Peaks soundtrack, and then worked with Rainbo to press the record on 180g vinyl for the best possible sound quality. The record comes housed inside a 425gsm gatefold sleeve featuring lyrics and liner notes by composer Angelo Badalamenti and the cover image by Sam Smith comes approved by director David Lynch himself. The gatefold sleeve is housed within a bespoke die cut outer jacket designed by Mondo’s Jay Shaw featuring super subtle white spot varnish text. The whole affair is finished with a top loading obi strip & pressed on “Damn fine coffee” vinyl.

James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe star in Victor Frankenstein, a kind of origin story/re-imagining of classic monster story told from Igor’s point-of-view.
Medical student Victor Frankenstein (McAvoy) is visiting a circus in Victorian London in search of animal body parts for his secret experiments, when a beautiful trapeze artist (Jessica Brown Findley) falls from her perch. The doctor rushes to assist but she is already being aided by the circus’ self-taught doctor, a hunch-back clown (Radcliffe). Impressed by the nameless clown’s skill and knowledge of anatomy, Frankenstein helps him escape the circus and takes him back to his laboratory, where he treats his physical problems. Given the name of Victor’s missing roommate, Igor Straussman, Frankenstein offers him friendship, a place to stay, an extensive library and a chance to help in his effort to create life.

In 2011, I moved from New York to London. I can make free video phone calls to my friends and family, and I can be home in a few hours; planes go back and forth between the two cities with the regularity and frequency of a bus schedule (if, alas, for quite a bit more than bus fare). But still: it was hard. It remains an emotional challenge to be separated from people I love back home even as I get more and more emotionally connected to a new home.

A blockbuster movie that also has something to say? The devil you say! Daniel Radcliffe, who co-stars in the upcoming "Victor Frankenstein" with James McAvoy, says the movie penned by Max Landis has some substance between the stitching. “I like the fact that it’s a studio movie with these big sets and sequences, but there’s also a cool intellectual debate going on. Our innate fear of technology and the fear of people who push it beyond where we’re comfortable with it going… feels like a nice combination,” the actor told Nylon. Read More: Review: 'I Frankenstein,' Starring Aaron Eckhart, Yvonne Strahovski & Bill Nighy In this clip from the film directed by Paul McGuigan (“Wicker Park,” "Gangster No. 1"), McAvoy's Victor Frankenstein almost freakishly enthuses about the possibilities of technology to make man immortal. Then he does a magic trick. "Victor Frankenstein" arrives on November 25th. Check...

Updated: Predictions at the bottom of this post have been updated as final theater counts have arrived. The text of today's forecast article has not been edited and the early predictions are listed at the bottom of this article for comparison. It has been slow-going at the box office as of late. This past four-day, Labor Day weekend haul came in at just $85.7 million for the top twelve, the worst Labor Day weekend result since 2004 where films such as Paparazzi, Wicker Park, Vanity Fair and The Cookout all cracked the top ten. Remember them? Things actually got worse the following weekend back in 2004, and it looks as if this year won't be any different, despite the efforts of new releases such as M. Night Shyamalan's micro-budget horror The Visit and Screen Gems' The Perfect Guy, led by Michael Ealy, Sanaa Lathan, Morris Chestnut and "True Blood" star Rutina Wesley.

James McAvoy is poised to make the jump from comic book features to classic stories in his upcoming film, joined by Daniel Radcliffe, as the two take on the roles of Victor Frankenstein and Igor respectively in a new telling of the classic Mary Shelley novel.
The first trailers for the film, titled Victor Frankenstein, have now been released, one American and one British. The film is directed by Wicker Park and Push helmer Paul McGuigan, with a screenplay from Chronicle writer Max Landis. McAvoy and Radcliffe are joined onscreen by a supporting cast that includes Andrew Scott, Mark Gatiss, Louise Brealey, and Jessica Brown Findlay.
The film’s synopsis is as follows:
Radical scientist Victor Frankenstein (McAvoy) and his equally brilliant protégé Igor Strausman (Radcliffe) share a noble vision of aiding humanity through their groundbreaking research into immortality. But Victor’s experiments go too far, and his obsession has horrifying consequences.

Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy star in Victor Frankenstein. Here's the first trailer...
One of the best directed pieces of television we've seen? That'd be the very first episode of Sherlock, where Paul McGuigan - of Lucky Number Slevin, Wicker Park and Gangster No 1 fame - did an absolutely stand out job. McGuigan would go on to direct four Sherlock instalments in all across series one and two, but would pass on series three, as he went back to the world of feature films (as well as working on a couple of other TV shows).
Victor Frankenstein, then.
The movie arrives in UK cinemas on December 4th, and has been scripted by Chronicle's Max Landis. It tells the classic story from Igor's perspective, with Igor played here by Daniel Radcliffe. Elsewhere in the cast, you'll find James McAvoy (as Victor Von Frankenstein), Andrew Scott, Mark Gatiss, Freddie Fox, Daniel Mays and Jessica Brown Findlay.

We’ve seen numerous iterations of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein,” but aside from comedies, there’s never really been an essential Frankenstein movie. And certainly many have tried in recent years. Guillermo del Toro has been trying to get a Frankenstein movie made for years; the studio behind “I, Frankenstein” laughably tried to make a modern action version of the story and failed miserably. But try, try again and all that. The latest film stars James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe and it’s called “Victor Frankenstein.” Directed by Paul McGuigan (“Wicker Park”), and written by Max Landis (“Chronicle”), the new adaptation may be a more frankensteined version, pulling from several sources on top of the Shelly 1818 novel, including other movies, to create a new pastiche. The new film is told through the eyes of Igor (Radcliffe), Dr. Frankenstein’s (McAvoy) assistant, and a human guinea pig who has to suffer through various experiments.

Arrested Development: Katz’s Debut an Affectionate Familial Dramedy
A familiar yet generally charming vehicle that impressively utilizes a pair of actors known mostly from a mainstream comedic realm, Adult Beginners is a low-key dramedy assembled from unpredictable voices. Premiering at the 2014 Toronto Film Festival before making its Us bow at SXSW earlier in 2015, it serves as producer Ross Katz’s feature debut (previously he directed the 2009 television drama Taking Chance, starring Kevin Bacon), with Nick Kroll credited with the story, and a screenplay penned by Liz Flahive (“Nurse Jackie”) and Jeff Cox (Blades of Glory, 2007). Neither as broadly comedic or serious minded as the credits would seem to indicate, the title serves as an estranged sibling reunion film that plays like the lighter, rosy faced cousin of last year’s The Skeleton Twins. Produced by the increasingly philanthropic Duplass Bros., the film displays the sort of vibrant charm...

First, "Let The Right One In" was a fresh take on the vampire genre from Sweden that made impressive waves in 2008. Two years later, it was remade as the arguably better "Let Me In" (yep, I went there) by Matt Reeves, who trimmed the fat, and delivered a leaner, more effective take on the story of a relationship between a young boy and an ageless, bloodthirsty girl. And now, the property is headed to the small screen. THR reports A&E has started development on a TV series based on the cult horror film. The good news is that the network seems dedicated to quality genre fare, already the home to the acclaimed "Bates Motel" and the recently launched "The Returned." A cause for pause might be the fact that Jeff Davis, the showrunner for MTV's tweenage "Teen Wolf," is working on the adaptation along with Brandon Boyce ("Apt Pupil,...

First it was a novel, then an acclaimed Swedish movie, then a surprisingly classy English-language remake, and then two separate stage productions. Now John Ajvide Lindqvist's Let The Right One In is heading for yet another adaptation, this time as a TV series for the American cable network A&E. Brandon Boyce (Apt Pupil, Wicker Park) will write the new take, with Jeff Davis (MTV's Teen Wolf) acting as showrunner. Both, along with Tomorrow Studios' Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements, will serve as executive producers. So too will Hammer CEO Simon Oakes: Hammer retains the rights as the studio that brought us the Let Me In version in 2010.The story, in all forms so far, gives us a young boy called Oskar (Owen in the Hammer film) who befriends a local girl called Eli (or Abby). Eli lives in mysterious circumstances with her seemingly much older 'guardian',...

A&E has emerged victorious in a bidding war with Showtime for the rights to adapt the 2004 Swedish novel Let The Right One In for the small screen, THR is reporting.
The novel, which was made into a Swedish feature by the same name in 2008 by Tomas Alfredson, was also adapted in 2010 by Hammer Films Production for the big screen for an English-language feature, which was directed by Matt Reeves and called Let Me In. Hammer Films recently optioned the adaptation rights to the novel, which A&E won, intending to produce the tv series in their own production studio, A+E, in collaboration with Tomorrow Studios.
The show has already landed a creative team as well, as it will be steered by Jeff Davis and Brandon Boyce. Davis is best known for creating what ultimately became the CBS series Criminal Minds, as well as being the creator and showrunner...

As anyone who’s read Mary Shelley’s classic horror novel (or seen one of the many film adaptions of the story, now in the public domain) can tell you, the creature most people think of as “Frankenstein” should really be called “Frankenstein’s monster.” 20th Century Fox’s upcoming take on the tale, however, has a title that makes the delineation even clearer: It’s called Victor Frankenstein, emphasizing the man, not the monster.
The film, announced last year, will star James McAvoy (X-Men) as the eponymous doctor and Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) as Igor, his hunchbacked lab assistant.

Usually June is associated with the first real month of summer -- a time to go out and frolic through the wilderness like a snowman that doesn't know any better. But it also gets really, really hot, which has people retreating to their local multiplex or, even better, their luxuriously air-conditioned living rooms. With that in mind, take a look at the television shows and movies that will be available on Netflix's steaming service come June (via Vulture).
