Spoilers for "Creature Commandos" to follow.
The opening credits of "Creature Commandos" is a roll-call of the offbeat cast set to classic Venezuelan song "Moliendo Café." The last figure in the call is series creator, and new DC Universe architect, James Gunn. The animated Gunn is sitting at his laptop, writing the script for the "Creature Commandos" episode we're about to see. If you thought Gunn would be hands off with the show, think again. The series has his thumbprint over each key frame of animation and syllable of dialogue.
So far, "Creature Commandos" has the pop music needle drops that Gunn has been writing his superhero movies to since "Guardians of the Galaxy." The series' second episode, "The Tourmaline Necklace," shows the century long history between Frankenstein (David Harbour) and his Bride (Indira Varma) with a montage set to Gogol Bordello's "American Wedding.

Sony had been planning to give director Chris Weitz’s horror film They Listen a theatrical release on August 25th of 2023, but in May of last year they decided to delay the release an entire year, pushing They Listen to August 30, 2024. By the time that date rolled around, the movie had been given the new title Afraid (or AfrAId)… and neither the new title nor the new release date worked out for the movie at the box office, because it only ended up making $9 million at the global box office. Just two weeks after its theatrical release, Afraid has now been given a digital release and is available for rent on Amazon’s Prime Video for $9.99. It can also be purchased for the price of $14.99.
Afraid‘s physical media release will follow on November 5th, when it comes to Blu-ray and DVD with the following extras: – 5 Deleted & Extended Scenes including...

After 25 years, Jason Biggs took advantage of one of his most memorable roles for some tongue-in-cheek marketing.
The American Pie star, who hosts Netflix‘s Blue Ribbon Baking Championship, joked “there were no pies harmed” while filming the backing competition series, which is “safe for family viewing” and now available on the streamer.
“I’ve really wanted to host something in the food world,” Biggs told USA Today. “Of course, there’s the wink at the camera and the audience with me as a baking show host. And whenever I can’t think of something to say, I always have a pie joke in my back pocket that brings the house down.”
The show’s premiere comes after last month’s milestone anniversary of his breakout role in American Pie (1999), which has long been known for its eponymous scene, in which Biggs’ bumbling teen character Jim fornicates with an apple pie.

Alyson Hannigan Fondly Remembers Her Role In American Pie(Photo Credit –Instagram)
Following the 25th anniversary of the first 1999 American Pie movie, Alyson Hannigan made a stunning revelation about her role as the lovable band nerd Michelle Flaherty and how she nearly missed out on the sequels.
During an interview with Vulture, Hannigan added, “The best story from the whole thing was that you know, it was a low-budget movie with all these tiers of negotiations. There was an A-tier and a B-tier. I think I was on the bottom C-tier with Seann [William Scott].”
She continued, “I was like, ‘Okay, fine.’ It was seven days and it was more of a passion project. Then, in the contract, there was a sequel clause. I said, ‘Look, I’m getting paid scale plus 10. I’m not going to sign for a sequel. That doesn’t make sense.’ I sound like I was being really difficult,...

One time, Alyson Hannigan almost missed the bus back to band camp.
Ahead of the 1999 teen movie’s 25th anniversary, the American Pie actress reminisced about her role as lovable band nerd Michelle Flaherty in the raunchy franchise and how she almost wasn’t in the sequels.
“The best story from the whole thing was that, you know, it was a low-budget movie with all these tiers of negotiations,” Hannigan told Vulture. “There was an A-tier and a B-tier. I think I was on the bottom C-tier with Seann [William Scott].”
She explained that the tiers were “in regards to pay,” adding: “So it’s just scale plus 10 [percent to an agent]. There’s no negotiating on the C-tier because the character is not that important.
“I was like, ‘Okay, fine.’ It was seven days and it was more of a passion project. Then, in the contract, there was a sequel clause,” Hannigan continued.

In a 2022 interview for Variety, actor, writer, and director Christopher Guest said, “When I met (Jennifer Coolidge), I knew there was something going on that was special. And I was right, fortunately.” He praised her ability to command attention without commanding the dialogue. “This person stands out. Everyone else to me is invisible. You want to see her.”
We have seen her on our television and theater screens since the early 90s. And 2023 may have been her best year yet.
So, what happened to Jennifer Coolidge, the self-deprecating eccentric humorist and sometimes sex symbol, who owns over 100 credits in television and film? To know that, we must do what we always do: start at the beginning where the beginning began.
Jennifer Coolidge was born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 28, 1961. She says she always looked old for her age, so she was able to buy a case of beer when she...

The 1999 coming-of-age comedy "American Pie" was a massive hit when it was released in 1999. Starring a who's-who of upcoming teen talent, "American Pie" delved deeply into the more embarrassing sexual details of being an adolescent boy in the modern day. There were scenes involving bodily fluids, oral sex, and multiple references to creative masturbation. While the bulk of the film -- written by Mike Herz and directed by Paul Weisz -- prided itself on aggressive raunchiness, it wisely ended on a sweet note, allowing the characters to realize that despite having had sex, they still have a lot to look forward to on their journey of growing up.
For a while in the early 2000s, Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Mena Suvari, Shannon Elizabeth, Seann William Scott, Thomas Ian Nicholas, and Natasha Lyonne were household names largely because of the "American Pie" movies. To date, the series has made $990 million.

The coming-of-age film American Pie was one of the surprise hit movies of the 1999 film season. Fans quickly became invested in a group of high school friends and their families in the Jason Biggs, Eugene Levy, and Jennifer Coolidge-led big-screen success. Two years later, American Pie 2 revisited the friend group, now college students. However, when the third sequel, American Wedding, was filmed in 2003, many cast favorites were missing. Why was that so?
Why were so many of ‘American Pie’s’ original cast members not a part of ‘American Wedding?’
In 2003, producers of the American Pie film franchise orchestrated the wedding of Jim Levenstein (Jason Biggs) and Michelle Flaherty (Alyson Hannigan) as the centerpiece of American Wedding. The movie intended to bring together the cast of the first two installments as a love letter for the characters and film fans who supported the franchise since 1999.

Sony had been planning to give director Chris Weitz’s horror film They Listen a theatrical release on August 25th of this year, which is why we have it listed on our Summer Horror Movie Preview… but we’re going to have to remove it from that list, because Sony has (according to Yahoo) decided to delay the release an entire year. They Listen is now set to reach theatres on August 30, 2024.
They Listen is coming to us from Sony, Blumhouse, and Depth of Field. Weitz is producing the film with Jason Blum and Andrew Miano. Bea Sequeira, Dan Balgoyen, Britta Rowings, and Paul Davis serve as executive producers. Filming was already underway in Los Angeles back in December, so this movie is going to be complete and sitting on a shelf a while before its new release date rolls around next year.
All details about They Listen are being kept under wraps.

In fact, all details about They Listen are being kept under wraps. We don’t even have any idea what the story is about. So we have to gauge our interest in this one based entirely on the names of the people involved with the making of it.

January Jones took aim at virtual auditions on Saturday, writing on her Instagram story, “Note to Hollywood: It’s time for casting directors to come back into the office like everyone else. To audition actors in person.”
The “Mad Men” star continued, “And if anyone asks for a Fee to audition please know that this is criminal and Pathetic. I personally have had to self tape several times since the pandemic began and there is zero benefit to it for anyone involved. It’s time consuming, expensive, and a drag to whomever you have to drag in to read with you (sorry Mom), and is often done with zero direction/notes.”
Since the pandemic, self-tapes have remained a common way for actors to audition for roles, rather than auditioning live in front of casting directors.

Havana Rose Liu recently had her breakthrough role playing the lead in the Hulu thriller No Exit (read our review Here) – which was an okay movie, but underwhelming in comparison to the awesome Taylor Adams novel it was based on. Now Deadline reports that Liu is returning to the thriller realm with a role in in director Chris Weitz’s horror film They Listen. Just when you thought you'd sung the words, "Bye, bye, Miss American Pie," for the last time, Universal Pictures is ready to reheat the pie and kindly offer you some more. And you better like it because this is a multimillion-dollar film franchise and it's too expensive to pie you in the face with it. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a new "American Pie" movie is in the oven, based on an original pitch that is said to offer a "fresh take" on the 23-year-old sex comedy film series.

The “American Pie” franchise is one of the most popular and successful comedy franchises. The series spans nine movies and follows a group of friends navigating the highs and lows of teenage life.
From first kisses to losing their virginity, the “American Pie” movies capture the essence of being young and in love. And whether you’re a fan of the original cast or the newer additions, there’s something for everyone in this hilarious franchise.
Throughout the first film in the original series, Jim Levenstein (Jason Biggs) attempts to establish a connection with Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth), his schoolmate. Jim and three of his closest pals, Kevin Myers (Thomas Ian Nicholas), Paul Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas), and Chris Ostreicher (Chris Klein), make a promise to lose their virginity before graduation.

Avril Lavigne is celebrating the 20th anniversary of her debut album, Let Go, with a new deluxe edition — out today — featuring six bonus tracks.
One of the additions to the album is Lavigne’s newly recorded version of “Breakaway,” a song she originally wrote for Let Go, but ultimately ditched (she gave the song to Kelly Clarkson, whose version became a hit in 2004). For the new version of “Breakaway,” Lavigne restored some of the original lyrics, which reference her childhood in Canada. (A lyric video for “Breakaway’ is available on Facebook.

Abramorama has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Soros, the Jesse Dylan-directed documentary feature about billionaire activist George Soros from Vital Pictures. The film, which had its U.S. premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, will get a live streaming premiere on November 18 on the film’s website followed by a release on Watch Now @ Home starting on November 20th. Famous for betting against the Bank of England in 1992 and making a billion dollars in one day, Soros is maligned by ideologues on both the left and the right for daring to tackle the world’s problems and putting his money behind his fight – from free elections and freedom of the press to civil rights for minorities.
Dylan follows Soros across the globe and pulls back the curtain on his personal history, private wealth, and public activism. Soros reveals a complicated genius whose experience as a Jew during the...

I did a double take when I saw the headline myself. Despite only launching a week ago, a not inconsiderable number of titles will be leaving HBO Max at the end of June. Logically, distribution contracts that were already running out weren’t going to stop running out just because Warner launched their new service, so you best get on these quick.
Here’s the list of all the movies leaving HBO Max on June 30th:
The Abyss
Akeelah and the Bee
American Wedding
An Ideal Husband
Arthur
Asylum
The Beverly Hillbillies
The Big Green

Empire of the Sun
Glengarry Glen Ross

Fred Willard, the comic actor known for his genial but dunderheaded characters, has died. He was 86.
Willard died Friday night at his home in Los Angeles of natural causes. Willard’s daughter, Hope Mulbarger, said the actor died “very peacefully.”
“He kept moving, working and making us happy until the very end. We loved him so very much,” Mulbarger said. Willard has a role in the upcoming Netflix comedy series “Space Force” opposite Steve Carell.
Willard was married for 50 years to Mary Willard, a playwright and collaborator with her husband. She died in 2018 at the age of 71.
After getting his start in improv comedy with Second City, Fred Willard was an astonishingly ubiquitous presence especially on TV but also in movies for decades, almost always in small but memorable roles.

Well here we are. April is going to be a fairly sedentary and isolating month for a lot of people. At least we now thankfully have some guidance as to our entertainment options as HBO has released its new streaming releases for April 2020.
HBO’s original series premieres are pretty busy this month. The fourth season of Issa Rae’s excellent comedy Insecure arrives on April 12. That’s preceded by the fascinating docuseries Atlanta’s Missing and Murdered: The Lost Children and followed by book adaptation I Know This Much is True.
On the film side of things there are a few exciting options. Good Boys arrives on April 4, It: Chapter Two on April 11, and Stuber on April 18. Some older movies arriving on April 1 are Team America: World Police, Die Hard, and Slumdog Millionaire.
Here is everything else coming to HBO Now and HBO Go in April 2020 via HBO PR.

February is here, which means Valentine’s Day is around the corner. Hulu is offering traditional fare (think Kleenex and chocolates) like the Sandra Bullock-led rom-com “While You Were Sleeping,” as well as “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” “Moonstruck,” and “Barefoot.”
Why stop at romantic relationships though? Celebrate Galentine’s Day, the Feb. 13 “holiday” popularized by “Parks and Recreation,” which honors women and female friendship. Check out the thrilling “Thelma & Louise” or “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider,” and for campy reality TV fun, watch women fight and make up on “The Real Housewives of New York City.”
Hulu has also brought out a spate of James Bond films, so get yourself a martini and marathon “Dr. No,” “From Russia With Love,” and “Thunderball,” all the way up to “Tomorrow Never Dies.”
Additionally, recent critically acclaimed movies available on the platform this month include the dark comedy western “The Sisters Brothers,...

Movies New to Netflix in February: ‘Velvet Buzzsaw’ & ‘High Flying Bird’ Premiere, Plus Every ‘Jaws’
Netflix is having a very good start to 2019. In addition to landing its first Best Picture nomination for Alfonso Cuarón’s “Roma,” (the film tied with “The Favourite” for most nominations — 10), the streaming service took another step towards industry legitimacy by officially joining the MPAA this week. The site’s original film slate continues to broaden and diversify, and the streamer seems to pull an infinite number of rabbits out of its expertly-branded red hat.
As the Sundance Film Festival kicks off this week, the Jake Gyllenhaal vehicle “Velvet Buzzsaw” will play in the Premieres section. But Netflix viewers won’t be missing out for too long; the art heist genre thriller debuts on Netflix on the first day of February. That might make a nice double feature with the Kristen Stewart-starring “Personal Shopper,” or Matt Tyrnauer’s impeccably made disco doc “Studio 54.”

Erica Rose is an unforgettable name to most Bachelor fans. The 35-year-old, Texas-based contestant from Lorenzo Borghese’s season of the show was known for being the center of attention (and, at the time, for exclusively wearing tiaras), and although she didn’t win Borghese’s final rose, she went on to appear on several Bachelor specials and on seasons two and three of Bachelor Pad. And now, the life coach and mother of one has found her true love — Rose was married over the weekend in Houston, Texas to fiancé Charles Sanders! And both the wedding and the events...

You, my friend, are a 20-something loser. On New Year’s Eve, at a nightclub. You’re flying solo, hoping to find someone to connect with. The ladies won’t even give you the time of day. Hell, even the bartender won’t pay any attention to you. Then you spot a hot lady dancing by herself and you make your move. She, of course, is wasted. She pukes on your shoes and stumbles away. As the clock strikes midnight, you’ve given up and sat at a table in the corner. But then suddenly a beautiful, older woman appears and takes an interest in you. Why You, of all people?? She invites you back to her place! Holy shit!! But then you realize how strange this situation actually is. How nasty her apartment is. How Infested her apartment is. And what is up with that gold statue? But forget all that!

The Real co-host Adrienne Bailon and gospel singer Israel Houghton wanted to make sure their guests were well fed at their recent Paris wedding.
In fact, the planning of the menu for the celebration started the day after their August engagement.
“We were having a grand breakfast with my parents at Alain Ducasse’s restaurant ,” Bailon tells People. “I was looking at the chandelier and said to Israel, ‘I wonder if they do weddings here?’ Within five minutes he had the event coordinator in the room ready to take us on the tour to show us around and right then and there we booked venue.

“Adam Ruins Everything” is quickly becoming one of TV’s most intriguing hybrids. Part Ted Talk, part sketch comedy catchall, with a dash of existential meditation on human interaction on top, the truTV show currently in its second batch of episodes is quietly carving out its own niche in the basic cable landscape.
It’s the logical evolutionary step for a generation raised on “Bill Nye the Science Guy,” only in this iteration, the host has swapped out the lab coat for a bespoke suit and matching pocket square. Star and creator Adam Conover began the show as a CollegeHumor web series back in 2014, tackling public assumptions of dog breeding and engagement rings and tipping at restaurants, before bringing the format to a half-hour TV format last fall.

One could argue that January Jones is the epitome of American beauty. Her makeup routine, however, leans effortlessly French. In a recent interview with The Coveteur, the American Wedding star revealed her go-to products. And, surprisingly, it's much more about moisturized skin and nourished locks rather than the bold lip and winged liner we've come to associate her with. "At this current point in my life, my hair care and skin-care regimes are more extensive than the actual makeup that I wear," she told the site. On top of using a plethora of masks, including a Kérastase conditioning treatment, and iS clinical serums, the actress banks on Sisley Paris day cream and sunscreen (like...

Shortly following the turn of the millennium came a transitional moment in Hollywood humour. Comedies featuring adolescents and comedies featuring adults had never been a rare sight, but following the Farrelly brothers’ There’s Something About Mary (1998), the maturation of the American Pie (1999) series, and particularly with the rise of the Frat Pack (a term coined in a Variety review of Old School (2003)), it became increasingly popular to combine the two, and to blur the line dividing maturity and immaturity that is supposed to magically appear during the progression into adulthood.
Suddenly, it was common to see films reversing the coming-of-age narrative of many teen comedies, continuing the natural progression of slacker films such as Clerks (1994), and intensifying the feckless nature of adults from examples such as The Big Lebowski (1998) and Office Space (1999). The Frat Pack were at the forefront of that change, and their movie Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) was its harbinger,...

The period between the ages of 10 and 14 is a strange and awkward one. It was probably the least open-minded time of your life; a time when your childlike curiosity had sizzled away in a sea of confused young sexuality and self-consciousness, but was yet to be replaced by ‘big person’ traits like ambition, respect, and good taste.
It’s during this period that you’re likely to have watched and enjoyed some films that you look back on and wonder what was going through your mind at the time (Answer: Puberty). Whether it’s comedy sequels that relied on regurgitated gags, or teen dramas that you thought had a really profound message about deep stuff that adults couldn’t possibly understand, there are some films that just shouldn’t be watched again.
Now, I’m not here to shatter your fond memories of films you loved as an adolescent (ok,...

Remember the first ever Love Island with its seemingly clueless single celebrities constantly bickering on a tumultuous and stormy (literally and metaphorically) Fijian island?
Even the show's co-hosts Kelly Brook and Patrick Kielty were baying for one another's blood when Kielty decided to declare during one live show that Brook had previously dated contestant Paul Danan.
Other memorable highlights included Abi Titmuss becoming more and more enraged as Fran Cosgrave repeatedly referred to her as Vanessa Feltz, swiftly followed by a tipsy and uncouth Rebecca Loos letting rip.
The series aired almost exactly a decade ago, so we found ourselves wondering - whatever happened to eventual winner Jayne Middlemiss? And the Love Island love god that was Lee Sharpe?
As the new non-celebrity series currently enjoys its ITV2 revival, we find out what the 12 star contestants have gone on to do since their 2005 stint below:

In the wake of the Alien 5 news, here are 10 franchise sequels that also ignored at least one previous film.
We all have moments in our lives we'd prefer to forget, and so too do filmmakers. So what do you do when a movie franchise starts to go off the rails? Simple, just forget that the lesser films in the series never happened.
News recently broke that director Neill Blomkamp's taking this approach to the Alien universe. Recent interviews with both he and returning star Sigourney Weaver have revealed that Blomkamp's forthcoming sequel will not necessarily follow the events of Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection, and pick up the story from Aliens instead (although he has since given a brief update on that).
Of course, we'll have to wait and see exactly how all this pans out. But it's by no means the first time in history that a film's...
