Beyond the Gates spoilers reveal that the upcoming American soap opera was created by Michele Val Jean and debuts on CBS in February 2025.

The mission is bolstered when Detective Denise Tolliver (Telma Hopkins) returns to the canvas. Hopkins recently spoke to Soap She Knows about her return to the CBS daytime drama.

Hopkins said of her character: “Denise is who she is. She’s an investigator. She’s nosy. She’s got the best job in the world, and now she can get in everybody’s business legally. She doesn’t have to sneak around like she used to do.

Hearst Media Productions Group (Hmpg) has partnered with multicast television network Dabl to provide a three-hour block of educational and informational (E/I) programs on Sunday mornings.

The new programming block will debut on Dabl in early January, Hmpg said in a statement. The shows will include “Harlem Globetrotters: Play It Forward,” “Wild Child with Sheinelle Jones,” “Oh Baby! with Janai Norman” and “Best Friends FurEver with Kel Mitchell.”

“Hmpg’s weekly series resonate with today’s audience, delivering powerful reach in an evolving media landscape,” said Frank Biancuzzo, the President of Hmpg. “Dabl is an exciting platform that’s attracting new viewers.”

Dabl is operated by Weigel Broadcasting and Paramount Global’s CBS Television Stations. It reaches more than 50 million homes via over-the-air broadcast television, and is also offered on a national basis through streaming pay TV systems like Frndly TV, Philo, YouTube TV and Hulu with Live TV.

Fans of the sitcom Half & Half will want to tune into The Young and the Restless later this month when Telma Hopkins and Valarie Pettiford are reunited on screen. In 2025, actress Daphnée Duplaix returns to daytime in the much-anticipated CBS drama Beyond the Gates. The soap alum first starred as Valerie Davis on NBC’s Passions and Rachel Gannon on ABC’s One Life to Live. Over the years, Duplaix has starred in numerous movies and TV shows.

The Early Days

Duplaix was born in New York City and is of Haitian (she even has a Haitian flag in her Instagram bio), French, and Italian descent. Many actors begin their careers in soaps. However, she racked up experience modeling and doing commercials. She was also a co-host of a music and pop culture series called One World Music Beat. Young and the Restless comings and goings confirm that out of the blue, showrunner Josh Griffith brought back Amy Lewis. It seems pretty much out of nowhere, but she’s got lots of friends still on the CBS soap opera.

CBS’ new daytime drama series “Beyond The Gates” has cast soap alums Karla Mosley and Daphnee Duplaix as “Dani Dupree” and “Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson,” respectively, daughters of the Dupree family matriarch, “Anita,” played by “As The World Turns” alum Tamara Tunie (ex-Jessica Griffin).

A former model turned “momager” who gave up her career for love, Dani (Mosley) is the Dupree family’s wild child, who’s also free-spirited, headstrong and uninhibited. Dropping out of school to pursue a high-flying modeling career, she has always marched to the beat of her own drum. Meanwhile, Nicole (Duplaix) exudes warmth, empathy and compassion. Although her seemingly perfect life includes being married to a surgeon husband, not everything is as it appears on the outside… inside.

As for Dani and Nicole’s mother, Antia (Tunie) is the family’s matriarch who at one time was a famous singer.

Deadline has learned that veteran TV actress Valarie Pettiford will take over the role that was first created by Stephanie E. Williams in 1983. Details on why Amy is returning are being kept under wraps for now.

Pettiford’s first air date as a recurring character is Tuesday, October 29. This marks her return to daytime after portraying Sheila Price on One Life to Live from 1990-94.

Pettiford is currently a series regular on the BET+ series The Family Business and has a recurring role on CBS’ The Equalizer. She’s also set appear in the upcoming holiday movie, Too Many Christmases.

Her extensive TV credits include The Mandalorian, The Blacklist, The Baxters, A Discovery of Witches, and Half & Half for which she received three NAACP Image Award nominations for her role as Dee Dee Thorne.

Obi Ndefo, the actor best known for appearing in Dawson’s Creek, has died. He was 51.

The news of his passing was announced by Ndefo’s sister on Facebook on Saturday night, which comes five years after he lost both of his legs as a result of a hit-and-run incident. No cause of death was reported. TVLine has reached out to Ndefo’s family for confirmation.

Exclusive: AMC Networks-operated streaming service Allblk has commissioned Sitcho Ass Down, a new comedy special from comic Gary “G-Thang” Johnson, which will tape at the El Portal theatre in Los Angeles on January 26 and debut exclusively on the platform this spring.

Universal Television is developing a series adaptation of Diane Marie Brown’s debut novel Black Candle Women with Jenna Bush Hager, who has a first-look deal with Universal Studio Group, under her production banner Thousand Voices. Hager is teaming with Bel-Air showrunner Carla Banks Waddles and Good Girls creator Jenna Bans, both of whom have overall deals with Utv, for the project.

Waddles is set to write and executive produce the adaptation. Bans will executive produce through her production banner Minnesota Logging Company, along with the company’s Head of Television Casey Kyber. Hager will also executive produce with President of Thousand Voices, Ben Spector.

Black Candle Women introduces four generations of Montrose women—Augusta, Victoria, Willow—who have lived together in their quaint two-story bungalow in California for years. They keep to themselves, never venture far from home, and their collection of tinctures and spells is an unspoken bond between them.

Essence Atkins and Tetona Jackson have signed on to star in the untitled CBS comedy pilot starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr., Variety has learned. In addition, Andy Ackerman has signed on to direct the pilot.

The multi-cam pilot was first announced at CBS in February. Per the official logline, “Legendary talk radio host and happily divorced ‘Poppa’ (Wayans) has his point of view challenged at work when a new female co-host (Atkins) is hired, and at home where he finds himself still parenting his adult son (Wayans Jr.), a brilliant dreamer who is trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband.”

Atkins character is named Dr. Ivy Reed. She is further described as “intelligent, savvy, and bold” and hosts the radio show “Ask Dr. Reed,” where she gives “helpful advice to listeners with a modern approach on life” before she is brought in as Poppa’s new co-host.

The Writers Guild of America West has penciled in Living Single creator-showrunner Yvette Lee Bowser for its 2023 Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television Writing Achievement. She will receive the career honor, which is presented to a WGA member who has “advanced the literature of television and made outstanding contributions to the profession of the television writer,” at the 75th annual WGA Awards on March 5.

The princess of “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” is coming back. Tatyana Ali, who played Ashley Banks in the original NBC sitcom, will guest star in Season 2 of the show’s dramatic re-interpretation “Bel-Air,” Peacock announced January 19.

Ali — whose other credits include the TV One original series “Love That Girl!” and a stint on CBS soap “The Young and the Restless” — will play Mrs. Hughes, an English literature teacher at a Bel-Air middle school. In a wink to the original series, her character will develop a mentorship role across the season with the new version of Ashley (played by Akira Akbar), a precocious 12-year-old.

I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there, I’ll tell you when Season 2 of the “Fresh Prince” reboot is set to air. “Bel-Air” Season 2 will premiere on Peacock February 23, the streamer announced Thursday.

Based on the beloved ’90s sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” which helped launch a young Will Smith to fame, “Bel-Air” was inspired by a 2019 viral parody film by Morgan Cooper. Cooper’s short film took the basic premise of the sitcom — a young man runs into trouble in West Philadelphia and is forced to flee the city to live with his wealthy Los Angeles family — and reimagined it as a gritty drama. The short film caught the attention of Smith, who expressed interest in expanding the premise into a new series, and Cooper ultimately developed the show for Peacock with Malcolm Spellman, Tj Brady, and Rasheed Newson.

Rapper Dmx, the Grammy nominated rapper best known for singles “Party Up (Up in Here)” and “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem,” has passed away. He was 50.

The rapper, whose real name was Earl Simmons, died Friday, one week after suffering a heart attack, reported Rolling Stone. He was rushed to a hospital in White Plains, N.Y. on Friday, April 2 with “some brain activity,” and was placed in the critical care unit. He failed to recover.

Tisha Campbell, Essence Atkins, Tahj Mowry, Isaiah Mustafa, and Beth Grant have all been cast in ABC’s multi-cam comedy pilot “Black Don’t Crack,” Variety has learned.

The group joins previously announced series star Sherri Shepherd. The show follows three former sorority sisters who lost touch after college and reunite during a pivotal point in their lives. The show marks a reunion for Mowry and Atkins, who previously starred together in the Disney series “Smart Guy.”

Campbell will play Tasha Marks, described as a hip and fabulous Atlanta restaurateur who starts trends instead of following them. She holds nothing back and is brutally honest (sometimes to a fault) with her friends, but has been avoiding a truth in her own life. Alec Mapa has signed on to star alongside Alec Baldwin and Kelsey Grammer in an ABC multi-cam comedy series, Variety has learned.

Soon after Netflix’s Strong Black Lead launched in 2018, fans began pitching the marketing team’s social channels on the kind of acquisitions they’d like to see on the service. As viewers gravitated to films like the “Friday” trilogy, “Love and Basketball” and “Love Jones,” the Strong Black Team also noticed a specific recurring hunger for the Black-led sitcoms that ran on broadcast TV — mostly The WB and Upn — in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

“Every time we would post about a new show or anything else that we were talking about in the zeitgeist, we would get people asking about ‘Girlfriends,’ wanting to watch ‘Sister, Sister,’ wanting to watch ‘Moesha,'” says Jasmyn Lawson, who until recently was manager of Strong Black Lead, overseeing its editorial output. Exclusive: Good Girls executive producer Carla Banks Waddles is expanding her relationship with Universal Television, signing an overall deal with the studio behind the popular NBC series.

Banks-Waddles worked her way up in half-hours comedy before transitioning over to dramas. She caught the attention of Good Girls executive producers/co-showrunners Jenna Bans, who created the hourlong series, and Bill Krebs in 2018 and joined the show in season 2 as a consulting producer. She was named co-executive producer in season three, and has been promoted to executive producer for the upcoming fourth season.

Banks-Waddles also wrote the NBC/Uni TV drama pilot At That Age, executive producing the project with Malcolm D. Lee and Debra Martin Chase. The pilot was greenlighted in early 2020 but was rolled to 2021 due to the production disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Netflix added a ton of great stuff this past week and in case you missed all the new additions to the streaming service’s library over the last seven days, here’s a round-up of everything that went up on the site over this period.

As you can see below, this haul contained a number of original titles, including a few highlights of the Halloween season. On Wednesday the 15th, for instance, family horror A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting dropped. The following day then brought Spanish thriller Someone Has to Die and French series La Révolution, which puts a twist on the origins of the French Revolution. As for newly licensed titles, Thursday also delivered social media horror Unfriended while stop-motion animated film ParaNorman arrived on Friday.

Today marks a fairly large haul of new titles for the platform, bringing nine different things for you to sort through. Netflix’s Cobra Kai has again topped the Nielsen U.S. streaming chart, racking up 1.655 billion streaming minutes from September 7-13.

The Karate Kid update, which premiered on YouTube Premium before shifting to Netflix, has 20 episodes available spanning its first two seasons. In the previous week, Cobra Kai approached 2.2 billion streaming minutes. The streaming giant last week set January 8, 2021, as the premiere date for Season 3 and said Cobra Kai has been renewed for a fourth season.

Netflix once again dominated the rankings, which cover only streaming views through a TV set and only in the U.S., a minority of the global picture for Netflix and several others. There is also a lengthy delay in compiling the viewership numbers, in contrast with the quicker turnaround of linear and time-shifted viewing through pay-tv set-top boxes.

It’s been more than 20 years since “Sister, Sister” ended its run. But now, the 1990s sitcom has found new life on Netflix — and according to the latest Nielsen streaming ranker, audiences are responding.

All six seasons of “Sister, Sister” (which amounts to 119 episodes) is now available on Netflix, and the show managed to make it into the Nielsen top 10, for the week of Sept. 7 to Sept. 13.

“Sister, Sister” starred identical twins Tia and Tamera Mowry as Tia Landry and Tamera Campbell — twins separated at birth and raised in different households, and reunited as teens when they accidentally find each other. The show, which premiered in 1994, ran for two seasons on ABC before being canceled — and immediately picked up by The WB, which aired it for another four years. “Sister, Sister” ended its run in 1999. Jackée Harry, Tim Reid, Marques Houston, RonReaco Lee and Deon Richmond also starred.

Netflix was ahead of the game for October, releasing its “Netflix and Chills” horror lineup in anticipation of the Halloween season. Now the streaming giant has unveiled its full lineup for October, and believe it or not: horror remains at the forefront of its strategy.

The biggest release this month is undoubtedly The Haunting of Bly Manor, Mike Flanagan’s long-awaited followup to terrifying Haunting of Hill House. That arrives on Oct. 9. The film side of things is where most of Netflix’s other horror originals reside, with Hubie Halloween (Oct. 7), A Babysitters’ Guide to Monster Hunting (Oct. 15), and Rebecca (Oct. 22) all making their debut.

Some non-horror originals of note this month include high school drama Grand Army (Oct. 16) and the Anya-Taylor Joy-starring chess story The Queen’s Gambit (Oct. 26). Aaron Sorkin’s latest film, The Trial of the Chicago 7, arrives on Oct. 16.

The full list of everything that’s coming to Netflix in October has been released today and as we’re facing the prospect of a Halloween spent at home, the streaming site is making sure that we’ve got more than enough spooky content to keep us occupied. In fact, there’s a huge amount of new movies and TV shows arriving on the service next month as part of the “Netflix and Chills” season.

October 1st also delivers a lot of great newly licensed content, too, which you won’t want to miss. Sticking with the Halloween theme, though, the haul features a few horrors/thrillers including Cape Fear, House of 1000 Corpses and You Have Always Lived in the Castle. Then, on the 2nd, new original movie Vampires vs. the Bronx lands. And skipping ahead to the 7th, be sure to catch Adam Sandler’s latest comedy, Hubie Halloween.

It’s time to take our first look at what’s coming to Netflix in October. As it’s only early September, the full line-up hasn’t been revealed as yet, but numerous titles have already been scheduled for release throughout the month. We’re expecting the complete list to be announced by the streaming giant in either the third or final week of September, but for now, here’s what we know is going up on the site next month. And it already promises much to enjoy.

First of all, a few titles have yet to be dated, but they’re due in October all the same. The most notable of these is David Fincher’s Mank, his much-anticipated biopic about the creation of Citizen Kane, focusing on the battles between director Orson Welles and writer Herman J. Mankiewicz that plagued the classic’s production.

If you’ve been in the mood for Black sitcoms, Netflix has the fix for you: The streaming service has acquired the rights to seven classic Black sitcoms, the first of which will hit Netflix August 1.

“Moesha” will become available on Netflix on August 1, following by the first three seasons of “The Game,” August 15; “Sister Sister,” September 1; “Girlfriends,” September 11; “The Parkers,” October 1; “Half & Half,” October 15; and “One on One,” October 15.

Netflix announced the news via a video on its @strongblacklead Twitter account, where stars from the aforementioned shows celebrated the sitcoms’ impending arrival on the streaming service. The news should help scratch the itch for nostalgia, given that all of the aforementioned shows were major hits in the last decade or two.

Netflix announced Wednesday that it has acquired the streaming right to seven sitcoms — including Sister, Sister and Moesha — as part of their growing Strong Black Lead slate.

“The goal of Strong Black Lead is to celebrate and lift up Black Hollywood. These trailblazing shows are a huge part of that story,” Netflix’s Bradley Edwards and Jasmyn Lawson said in a statement (via Deadline). “We admit it, we grew up watching a lot of TV. And some of the beloved black sitcoms of the Nineties and early aughts had a huge impact on us.

In a surprise announcement, Netflix revealed that seven classic shows, including “Girlfriends,” “Sister Sister” and “Moesha,” will become available on the platform between Aug. 1 and Oct. 15.

The announcement was made on Netflix’s Strong Black Lead Twitter account, which is devoted to promoting shows and films on the platform featuring Black characters and stories. All seven of these shows have made a profound impact in the industry in terms of representing Black voices.

The shows announced include “Moesha,” coming Aug. 1; “The Game” Seasons 1-3, coming Aug. 15; “Sister Sister,” coming Sept. 1; “Girlfriends,” coming Sept. 11; “The Parkers,” coming Oct. 1; and “Half & Half” and “One on One,” both premiering on Oct. 15. The tweet also includes a video featuring many of the shows’ stars and creators, such as Tracee Ellis Ross, Tia and Tamera Mowry, Essence Atkins and Mara Brock Akil.

Moesha will launch on August 1, followed by the first three seasons of The Game on August 15. Sister Sister arrives on September 1, with Girlfriends launching on September 11 to mark the 20th anniversary of its premiere. The Parkers debuts on October 1, followed by Half & Half, and One on One on October 15.

Netflix has raided the former Upn network’s library, acquiring the rights to seven popular Black sitcoms, which will begin rolling out this weekend.

The streaming service has grabbed the rights to “Moesha,” “Sister, Sister,” “The Game,” “Girlfriends,” “The Parkers,” “Half & Half” and “One on One.” “Moesha,” which starred Brandy Norwood and ran for six seasons on Upn, will debut on Netflix Saturday. The first three seasons of “The Game,” which ran for nine years in total, will debut on Aug. 15. Netflix acquired the three seasons of the black comedy that aired on The CW, before it moved over to BET.

Popular ’90s sitcom, “Sister, Sister” will debut on Netflix starting Sept. 1. The series began on ABC before moving over to The WB, airing six seasons total. “Girlfriends,” which stars “black-ish” lead Tracee Ellis-Ross, ran for 9 seasons and 172 episodes and is one of the longer running live action sitcoms.

Collective Soul have announced a 2020 summer tour with Better Than Ezra and special guest Tonic.

The Just Looking Around 2020 summer tour will kick off May 29th in Scottsdale, Arizona, and will run through July 24th with a final show in Airway Heights, Washington.

“This tour is all about good times, great friends and amazing nights of music,” Better Than Ezra singer Kevin Griffin wrote in a statement. “We’re fired up to spend the summer with Collective Soul and Tonic. Put on your dancing shoes.”
