Financial constraints led director Oscar Micheaux to transfer the original story's setting (the Civil War) to present day.
Oscar Micheaux wanted Evelyn Preer to star as Rena, but she was busy with theater work which (which she liked more than film acting) and refused. Shingzie Howard was cast instead.
Filming reportedly took place over four weeks in 1922, ending just before Thanksgiving. Lack of funding kept the film from being completed for another two years.
No known copy of the film exists and it is considered lost.
