Amazon MGM Studios and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine have cast Lexi Minetree (The Murdaugh Murders) in the role of “Elle Woods” to lead its upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series.
As Deadline reported exclusively earlier this week, Minetree was one of the finalists competing for the role originally played by Witherspoon in the hit romantic comedy Legally Blonde (2001) and its sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003).
Elle follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film.
Creator Laura Kittrell is co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Caroline Dries. Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky, and Marc Platt also serve as executive producers.

Reese Witherspoon’s 2001 Legally Blonde broke more barriers than one. While it started with a classic rom-com girl getting the guy back vibe, it slowly turned into a transformational journey of Witherspoon’s character Elle Woods.

Interestingly, the writers initially had a different ending planned for the movie. While the final version focused on Elle Woods coming into her own, the initial movie wanted to highlight that she did get her boyfriend back.
The test audience, however, wasn’t on board with that. As, according to them, it took away the entire message the movie wanted to showcase. So, the writers came up with the idea to change the narrative to fit the theme better. Hence, the all-time classic was born.

If collecting souvenirs was a sport, Oscar-winner Reese Witherspoon would be the undisputed champion. No, seriously—who else walks off a movie set with 77 pairs of designer shoes? While most actors settle for a small keepsake, Witherspoon seemingly treated Legally Blonde 2 like a high-end shopping spree.

But don’t worry, she didn’t exactly sneak them out, because Reese Witherspoon has been quite vocal about taking several items from the set of her Legally Blonde sequel. Appearing on talk shows and even during interviews, the actress has joked about how taking away souvenirs was apparently written into her contract. Yeah right.

Reese Witherspoon may have pretended to go to law school in Legally Blonde, but she was surprised to learn that some thought she actually did study that.
While appearing on The Graham Norton Show, Witherspoon reflected on having to do jury duty years after the 2001 film’s release.
“Listen, I did not want to do jury duty,” Witherspoon said. “But I remember it was probably seven years after Legally Blonde, I got called for jury duty and it was in Beverly Hills. I thought, ‘Surely they’re not gonna pick me.’ They picked me for a long trial, y’all. It was probably two weeks.”
When Witherspoon’s You’re Cordially Invited co-star Will Ferrell, who was also on the show, teased that two weeks wasn’t “that long” the actress reiterated, “It was two solid weeks, every day going in.”

Reese Witherspoon got the shock of her life while serving jury duty in the years following “Legally Blonde.” In fact, the actress recalled being mistaken for a real-life lawyer by her fellow jurors after playing a law student in the movie on her recent episode of “The Graham Norton Show.”

Bob Newhart, the iconic comedian and actor who launched a more than six-decade run in show business in 1960 with his introduction of a deadpan, stammering everyman character whose popularity he rode well into his 80’s with a Grammy-winning comedy album and a pair of beloved Emmy-nominated sitcoms, is dead. He was 94 and passed away at his home on Thursday following a short illness. His longtime publicist Jerry Digney announced his death in a press release.
Newhart burst on the scene in 1960 with his album “The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart,” the first comedy album ever to top the Billboard charts. It won three Grammy Awards in ’61, including Album of the Year, Spoken-Word Comedy Album and New Artist. Newhart’s first two albums of comedy monologues (the second called “The Button-Down Mind Strikes Back!”) in fact held Billboard’s top two spots simultaneously, a rare feat.

Alanna Ubach hints at a potential return to Legally Blonde 3, but notes nothing is official for Serena's appearance. Ubach also shares her excitement about the franchise's upcoming prequel show, Elle, while also revealing she just recently saw the musical for the first time and "loved it". Though no story details have been revealed for the threequel yet, Legally Blonde 3 could see Serena having gone on to build a career of her own similar to Reese Witherspoon's Elle.
While the third movie remains in an unclear state of limbo, original star Alanna Ubach has an exciting response to her potential Legally Blonde 3 return. Ubach rose to prominence playing the character of Serena McGuire, best friend and sorority sister to Reese Witherspoon's leading lady Elle Woods in MGM's 2001 hit rom-com, which was a box office success, taking over $140 million worldwide, against a budget of $18 million. Reese Witherspoon has bent and snapped her way into a full-fledged “Legally Blonde” empire.
After playing L.A. sorority girl turned Harvard Law School student — and arguably, feminist icon — Elle Woods in 2001, Witherspoon has led sequel “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde” and is slated to star in a third film written by Mindy Kaling and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” co-creator Dan Goor. Kaling previously teased that the third film will center on Elle Woods reevaluating both her career and her perspective on life at age 42, telling Time magazine that she would never want the character to “be canceled or become a Karen.”
While the status of that trilogy installment is still unknown, given that the feature was announced in 2022, Witherspoon has turned instead to building out the “Legally Blonde” brand through TV.
IndieWire can confirm that a “Legally Blonde” prequel series titled “Elle” is in the works at Prime Video, with Witherspoon producing.

CBS sitcom "The Bob Newhart Show" was a staple for American TV audiences of the '70s, thanks in large part to clever writing and Newhart's much-loved performance as psychologist and comedic straight man Bob Hartley. The show ran for six seasons from 1972 to 1978, but it had a surprisingly long pop cultural afterlife. Characters from "The Bob Newhart Show" have popped up in everything from "Murphy Brown" to "St. Elsewhere" to "Alf," though their most famous reappearance came in the jokey "Newhart" finale in 1990. In it, Newhart wakes up in bed next to his wife from the previous series and discovers that this entire sitcom was all an elaborate dream. "The Bob Newhart Show," it turned out, was his real world.
When it wasn't being resurrected for increasingly meta crossovers, "The Bob Newhart Show" was a pretty straightforward sitcom about the life of a mental health clinician and the assortment...

Long before Greta Gerwig's pink pop cultural juggernaut Barbie came along, the fuchsia feminist revolution began with 2001's Legally Blonde. As blonde and brilliant SoCal socialite-turned-Harvard law student Elle Woods, Reese Witherspoon helped create a bona-fide cult classic and one of the 21st century's first great big screen heroines. Now, a couple of decades after 2003 sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, Witherspoon is gearing up to return to Elle Woods' world with her Hello Sunshine production company for several new Amazon spin-off series.
As reported by Deadline, Witherspoon — whose first Hello Sunshine/Amazon collaboration, Daisy Jones & The Six, debuted on Prime Video last year — is set to team up with Gossip Girl developers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage for the first project, which is furthest along in development. Schwartz and Savage are set to write the series, whose plot currently remains tightly under wraps, with Witherspoon taking on a producing role.

Dylan Mulvaney is dreaming big, and one of the characters she would like to play is Elle Woods from Legally Blonde.
In a recent interview, the singer and actress said that her dream theater role was to play Glinda in Wicked, but her “dream dream” was to portray the Harvard Law School student that Reese Witherspoon famously played in the 2001 film.
“My dream though is to do a trans Legally Blonde,” Mulvaney said in an interview with IMDb during SXSW. “I wanna play Elle Woods and have maybe a trans Emmett and a trans Paulette. And I think what’s so cool about plugging trans people into existing stories is it inherently changes what the topic is, but in a way that you don’t actually have to do much to the script because it becomes something different — but actually, I think it makes it even more powerful.”

It’s a lean month for new original content on HBO/Max. November will see the return of two scripted series in Julia and Rap Sh!t, both of which are debuting their respective second seasons, but this month’s fresh highlight is likely to be Bookie, a new comedy series from the partnership of The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre, and Nick Bakay. The show tracks an LA bookie called Danny (Sebastian Maniscalco), whose business is in peril as California movies to legalize sports gambling.

Old Dads is a comedy film directed by Bill Burr, who also co-wrote the film with Ben Tishler. The Netflix film follows three middle-aged men, who find themselves not fitting in the customs of the modern and often times very fragile and easily offended world. Burr’s style of comedy makes the film work as he also stars in the lead role alongside Bobby Cannavale and Bokeem Woodbine. So, if you loved the Netflix film here are some similar movies you could watch next.

Legally Blonde 3, featuring Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods, is highly anticipated and will pick up the franchise 20 years later. Elle Woods has become a feminist icon, breaking stereotypes about sorority girls and feminine women, and Legally Blonde 3 will explore her legacy in the 2020s. The release date for Legally Blonde 3 has not been announced, but it is dependent on Reese Witherspoon finding the right script and story for Elle's next chapter.
Legally Blonde 3 is on the way from MGM with Reece Witherspoon back once again as Elle Woods, and with a script penned by The Office alumni Mindy Kaling, the anticipation is high. The Legally Blonde movies focus on Elle Woods (Witherspoon), who enrolls in Harvard Law School to spite her condescending ex-boyfriend who thought her too unintelligent to pass the bar. Elle of course the last laugh, successfully arguing a court case, graduating from Harvard Law,...

The more things change, the more the Hollywood studios stay the same. At least that’s one of the surprising lessons of Barbenheimer, Sound of Freedom, Indiana Jones 5, Mission: Impossible 7, Fast and the Furious 10, and the other big-budget summer box office bets trying to help the movie business pull off a historic comeback.
Twenty years ago, we wrote a book, Open Wide, about a battle at the multiplex on the weekend of July 4, 2003, for the hearts, minds and dollars of the American public. In some respects, nothing has changed. The showdown that July weekend two decades ago pitted pink against black, and a sparkly self-actualized blonde heroine against a grim avatar of thermonuclear war.

With its list of new releases for July 2023, Prime Video is going to help you stay safe from the oppressive July sun.
Highlighting the Amazon Originals on the TV side this month are two heavy hitters. The first is The Horror of Dolores Roach on July 7. Based on a podcast of the same name, this series could best be described as a modern day Sweeney Todd? Why, you ask? Well you know why. Think about it. Then season 2 of Neil Gaiman adaptation Good Omens premieres on July 28. This season will follow angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tenant) as they seek to keep the Archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) away from both heaven and hell.
There aren’t any Amazon Original movies of note this month and that’s alright as the influx of library titles is more than enough. July 1 sees the arrival of The 40-Year-Old Virgin, No Country for Old Men,...
