Megyn Kelly continues her rise in the ranks of Fox News Channel anchors, as the network Tuesday (Sept. 17) announced a revised primetime lineup that includes her new show, "The Kelly File."
Starting on Monday, Oct. 7 (all times Eastern), the very popular "On the Record With Greta Van Susteren" moves to 7 p.m.
"After 11 1/2 years number one at 10 p.m," Van Susteren says in a statement, "and driving home near midnight, I am 'to the moon' thrilled at a new challenge (and a new drive! Half the year I won't even need headlights!)."
"On the Record" replaces "The Fox Report With Shepard Smith," which is going away -- but Smith isn't. He is scaling back his regular Fnc slots to just 3 p.m., now home to "Studio B With Shepard Smith."
That hour now becomes "Shepard Smith Reporting." In addition, he's taken on a whole new role, as managing editor of...

This story first appeared in the Feb. 10 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. Today marks 10 years that the Fox News Channel has been No. 1 in cable news. Bill O’Reilly may be its face of opinion broadcasting, but the host of The Fox Report With Shepard Smith and Studio B With Shepard Smith has become its face for hard news. Smith, who has worked for Fox News since its launch in 1996, spoke -- reluctantly, as it turns out -- to The Hollywood Reporter’s Paul Bond. The Hollywood Reporter: What was it like in those early days at Fox News?

Fox making news in a Flash
NEW YORK -- Fox News Channel is adding to its multiplatform strategy with two daily video products called Fox News Flash.
The Flash is a 60-second newscast, one in the morning done by Fox & Friends and another in the afternoon by The Fox Report With Shepard Smith. It's available on FoxNews.com, MySpace and iTunes as well as to Cingular and Amp'd customers with video capability.
The Flash is just that: A fast-paced newscast much like The Fox Report that offers the news of the day and offbeat stories.
Fox News vp digital media Jeremy Steinberg said the goal is to drive awareness of the Fox News Channel as well as attracting a younger audience and meeting the news needs of MySpace users.
He said Fox News is experimenting with new forms of content and new forms of distribution.

Smith gives edge to Fox
NEW YORK -- At a time when the TV news business is looking to reinvent itself, a glimpse of the future might be found weeknights at 7 p.m. ET, when Fox News Channel begins its whirlwind tour through the day's headlines. The frenetically paced The Fox Report oftentimes features more than 60 stories in an hour, half a dozen stand-ups and interviews, fast-paced celebrity news and even a goofy animal story or two. And Shepard Smith, the 41-year-old Mississippi native whose star turn occurred a month ago during Hurricane Katrina, delivers the news in his trademark clipped, anchor-with-attitude style that has helped set the tone for Fox News' hard-news coverage and made him one of the channel's most prominent personalities. Smith, who started as a reporter with the channel at its inception in 1996, has received much attention for his reporting on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Even those who question the Fox Report approach to journalism acknowledge that Smith has established his journalistic bona fides with his work on breaking and hard-news stories during the past decade.
