There are many great action movies like Wrath of Man that capture its visceral thrills and theme of revenge. Wrath of Man stars Jason Statham as a grizzled stranger known as “H,” who takes a job as a security guard on a cash truck and starts expertly foiling armed robberies, seemingly with an ulterior motive. The movie reunited Statham with director Guy Ritchie, who gave him his first acting roles in Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. Wrath of Man is a lot grittier and more serious than Ritchie and Statham’s other collaborations.
Wrath of Man was warmly received by both critics and audiences, and there are plenty of similar movies out there. There are other great action films starring Statham as a hardcore hero, like Wild Card, and other great revenge thrillers, like Lady Vengeance. Along with gritty heist movies, there are also several films about...

Wrath of Man: a Jason Statham movie directed by Guy Ritchie. Check. A revenge thriller wearing the clothes of a heist thriller: a savory treat-within-a-treat, like a bacon-wrapped sausage. Check, check. The movie is more or less a remake of the 2004 French film Cash Truck (Le Convoyeur), and its cast is a dreamy assortment of dependably engaging character stalwarts (Eddie Marsan, Holt McCallany, Andy García, Jeffrey Donovan) with a few against-type additions (Josh Hartnett, Raúl Castillo, comedian Rob Delaney), a worthwhile Scott Eastwood — and, yeah, even a little Post Malone...

If audiences are expecting Wrath of Man, the fourth collaboration between director Guy Ritchie and star Jason Statham, to have the rollicking, quirky vibe of previous Ritchie/Statham action joints, they should temper expectations right now. While Statham has always been adept with a one-liner, and Ritchie is more than willing to provide him a memorable one, Wrath of Man doesn’t have room for quips and giggles; Statham’s tongue has been removed from his cheek and is seldom used.
This taut, suspenseful tale of vengeance is deathly serious and features one of the more stoic performances of Statham’s career. While the script certainly robs Statham of one of his trademark charms, his ability to be equal parts fun and fierce, that doesn’t mean Wrath of Man is a total drag; it’s a fairly traditional heist flick buoyed by unnerving intensity from Statham. If only Ritchie...

When H shows up for work in Guy Ritchie’s “Wrath of Man,” no one at Fortico Security has much reason to suspect he might have any motive other than protecting the cash for the armored-truck outfit. The new guy — who looks an awful lot like the bald bloke from the “Crank” and “Transporter” movies — doesn’t waste words. His backstory checks out, as do his references. He’s a decent shot, but not so good that it would attract attention. Just another guard on an experienced team that recently lost two of its own in a bloody heist.
His first day on the job, however, some jokers try to rob H’s truck, and he can’t help showing them he means business. What could have been a $2.5 million robbery winds up with his co-workers safe, the money secure and half a dozen would-be crooks dead. Not just dead,...

With his new picture, Guy Ritchie continues down a familiar, albeit entertaining, road. Following a decade-plus of big budget tentpoles, the gangster genre auteur settled back into the pocket with last year’s The Gentlemen. Wrath of Man brings back yet another element from Ritchie’s early success: Jason Statham.
Reuniting after Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, and Revolver, Statham plays a man named “H.” He gets a job at a Los Angeles-based armored cash truck company, earning the trust of long-time employee Bullet (Holt McCallany) and the suspicious eye of Boy Sweat Dave (Josh Hartnett). The company is still recovering from a recent robbery gone way wrong. Two guards were killed, and one civilian. Early on we learn that that one civilian was H’s teenage son. Vengeance, as ever, ensues. Based on the 2004 French film Le Convoyeur with a screenplay credited to no less than five people,...

The action star’s latest collaboration with Guy Ritchie is violent fun with a slow-burn plot, but the movie has a woman problem
Whether you think Guy Ritchie is commenting upon overblown masculinity or merely indulging in it, his twist-laden crime sprees tend to be adrenaline-fueled fun, and in that regard, “Wrath of Man” is no exception. Ritchie’s reunion with leading man Jason Statham delivers the scheming, the shooting, and the swearing that the director’s fans have come to expect, by the bucketload.
But even at his most dude-fixated, Ritchie has always wisely included at least one sharp and savvy female character, the smartest cookie at the sausage fest. This time out, the women tend to be ornamental or victimized (or both), leaving one to wonder if the film wouldn’t have been better off as an unfiltered testosterone-fest if the filmmakers couldn’t manage to provide one interesting woman.

We’ll say this with cautious optimism: the summer movie season is…back? After the coronavirus pandemic upended the 2020 release calendar, pushing back some of the year’s most hyped films and inspiring new avenues of distribution for others, the summer of 2021 is shaping up as platform for blockbusters (from the latest “Fast and Furious” to the post-apocalyptic survival of the “A Quiet Place” installment all the way through a seventh “Conjuring” film) and rife with discoveries (including some festival hits that date all the way back to 2019).
Of course, the distribution landscape has changed radically over the past year, and not every anticipated summer movie will simply head to the multiplex. This season’s lineup includes a wide variety of viewing options that go beyond the brick and mortar theater. It’s a summer defined by options — not only in terms of what you see, but how you choose to see it.

Theaters are opening, vaccine distribution is pouring in, and distributors are starting to reshuffle and ready their release slates for 2021 — and that includes the glut of titles bottlenecked last year, and even earlier this year, by the pandemic. One such film is director Guy Ritchie’s “Wrath of Man,” produced by MGM and Miramax, and releasing from United Artists on May 7. It’s the latest, and fourth, collaboration between the English filmmaker and action icon Jason Statham.
“Wrath of Man” is written by Ritchie, Ivan Atkinson, and Marn Davies and is a reimagining of Nicolas Boukhrief’s 2004 French heist thriller “Le Convoyeur.” The new film follows a mysterious and wild-eyed cash truck security guard (Statham), known only as H, who surprises his co-workers during a heist in which he unexpectedly unleashes precision skills. The crew is left wondering who he is and where he came from. Soon, the marksman’s...

Jason Statham will star in a U.S. remake of the French thriller “Le Convoyeur,” with Guy Ritchie directing for Miramax.
Ritchie and Statham previously collaborated on two British actioners: 2000’s “Snatch” and 1998’s “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.” Miramax is set to produce and has purchased the remake rights of the original 2004 French film “Le Convoyeur” from StudioCanal.
Statham will portray a cold and mysterious character who works for an armored truck company responsible for moving hundreds of millions of dollars around Los Angeles each week. The original movie, which was also known as “Cash Truck,” starred Jean Dujardin and Albert Dupontel.
“I’m looking forward to bringing this story to life and working with Jason while he still has the use of his knees,” Ritchie said.
Miramax CEO Bill Block and Ivan Atkinson will produce. Ritchie and Miramax last teamed on the crime thriller “The Gentlemen,” starring Matthew McConaughey.

Last week, we ran a report that said Guy Ritchie’s next film, after “The Gentlemen” arrives in early 2020, will see the filmmaker return, once again, to the crime thriller genre. And now, it appears that is indeed the plan, as Deadline is reporting that Ritchie’s next film, produced by Miramax, will see the director not only give audiences another crime film, but bring back one of his favorite collaborators from earlier in his career.

The festival was forced to react to anger over the inclusion of Netflix titles, then the Manchester terror attack.
Monday’s night’s devastating attack in Manchester cast a pall over the final throes of a sluggish Cannes market and a festival selection that has lacked exuberance heading into its final stretch.
Flags flew at half-mast on Tuesday and there was a minute’s silence out of respect to the victims of the atrocity.
Swift messages of condolences came from the festival and the local mayor while Pixar cancelled a Cars 3 media event.
Security was never far from the agenda in Cannes. Heavily armed police were a constant presence and Cannes’ heightened state of alert kicked into action on Saturday when an ultimately harmless suspect package resulted in an evacuation of the Debussy during a press screening of Michel Hazanavicius’ Redoubtable.

According to Deadline, Sandra Bullock is set to star in Cash Truck, a new film “inspired by” the 2004 French movie Le Convoyeur—though, going by the plot descriptions, that might just be a fancy way of saying it’s a remake. Cash Truck is about an American woman named Alex (Bullock) who takes a job with an armored car company in London that was recently hit by a “deadly heist.” As she forms close relationships with the company’s “tight-knit crew,” Alex gradually reveals that she has some kind of scheme that involves “an explosive secret” from her past and her own “mysterious agenda.” From there, the story goes in “shocking, thrilling new directions,” which is always exciting.
Cash Truck will be directed by Narcos’ Josef Wladyka, from a screenplay by Ethan Erwin, Albert Hughes, and John Hodge.

A classically made two-hander that revisits the source material of another classic, Nicolas Boukhrief’s The Confession (La Confession) offers up a fresh take on the Beatrix Beck novel Leon Morin, Pretre, which was adapted by film noir master Jean-Pierre Melville in a 1961 version starring Jean-Paul Belmondo and the late Emmanuelle Riva. Not unlike Melville, Boukhrief is also known as a director of gritty urban thrillers (Cash Truck, Made in France), and here he shifts to a moody period drama about a priest and atheist butting heads, then coming together, toward the end of World War II.

Watch: Trailer For Jean Dujardin's 2004 Heist Flick 'Le Convoyeur' That's Getting A Hollywood Remake
Believe it or not, before he swept the cinema world off its feet with his turn in "The Artist," Jean Dujardin made other movies, and he was perhaps best known as the lead in the spy spoof 'Oss 117' flicks. But it seems producer Joel Silver has been using that new all region DVD player he got on Black Friday, as he's set to remake "Le Convoyeur," a 2004 heist flick starring Dujardin. Let's face it, Dujardin's name has little to do with why this is being remade (though it probably helps put an extra shine to it). Hollywood wants stuff they can easily translate and looks like easy box office, and this trailer for "Le Convoyeur" reveals it's exactly that: an action thriller with a sympathetic lead that looks like something Mark Wahlberg would release in Febraury. Anyway, the story centers on a father whose son accidentally gets killed as...

Long before French star Jean Dujardin two-stepped into our hearts in the glorious silent romance The Artist, he was starring opposite Albert Dupontel in the French crime-thriller Le Convoyeur. The movie centers on a man whose life is forever changed when stray gunfire from an armored car robbery kills his young son. The company that owns these tank-like vehicles has had two similar thefts occur within the past year. So, believing these must be an inside job, this mourning father gets a job there in hopes of finding the careless crooks, and avenging his son's death. While the film drew praise in France, it had no impact in the U.S., but that's all about to change. THR reports Joel Silver's production company Silver Pictures has picked up the remake rights, and will make the movie.currently called Cash Truck.in conjunction with French production house/distributor Studio Canal,...

Though it might sounds like a blue collar sequel to the trivia show "Cash Cab," the film Cash Truck from producer Joel Silver (The Matrix, Lethal Weapon) is actually just a remake of the French heist thriller Le Convoyeur. Released in 2004, the film follows a father and son who end up driving behind an armored truck when it gets held up by masked gunmen. In the craziness of the job, the child ends up being killed, and the father decides to track down the thieves to deliver his own justice. But it's more than just killing them, as he suspects an inside job and begins working at the armored truck company just to find his son's killers. That last bit of information is what makes this a little bit better than any other revenge thriller, but it doesn't sound all that thrilling. Of course, we haven't seen the original film,...

You might suspect, upon hearing that powerhouse producer Joel Silver is developing a film called Cash Truck, that someone is making a movie about his attempts to get Liam Neeson to perform some potentially life-threatening real stunt. They’re unfortunate enough to be on the road behind an armoured car when masked gunmen attempt to hijack the dosh-laden vehicle.A stray spray of bullets hits the man’s car, killing his child. Wracked with guilt and burning with vengeance, he seeks to find those responsible.
