In 1981 after the success of Dostana and Naseeb, producer Yash Johar had launched JohnJani Janardhan (Ringo) with a lot fanfare with Manmohan Desai as the director. Starring Amitabh Bachchan,Mithun Chakraborthy (Replaced Randhir Kapoor), Kamal Hassan. The film's tittle was from the song of Manmohan Desai's Naseeb's song, but this film was shelved without any reason. Then in the year 1984, director T.Rama Rao made a film with Rajnikant and he used the same tittle.
The songs Swamiji Swamiji and Jab Tak Hain Jee were sampled for the international song DUM DUM by LORD PARAMOUR.

T. Rama Rao approached Poonam Dhillon for the film but she quoted a high price. After that,they went and signed Moon Moon Sen. After problems with Moon Moon, they returned to Poonam and agreed to her price. But now they wanted her to play a guest appearance. The first role she was offered was the lead role with Rati Agnihothri in the special appearance. Now Rati Agnihothi was to play the lead with Poonam in the guest role. Poonam agreed as they were paying her the full market price she asked for .
Paap Ko Jala Doonga" is the dubbed Hindi version of Tamil movie "Moondru Mugam". "Moondru Mugam" was remade in Hindi as "John Jani Janardhan" with Rajnikanth in the lead role. "Moondru Mugam" was dubbed in Hindi much later in the 2000's.
