It’s probably instructive to go into “Black Flies” knowing that the title comes from insects that can smell death before we can, and that show up on screen swarming a dead, rotting body in a bathtub.
And it might help to know that the drone that gradually surfaces under the hysterical opening scene resolves itself into the overture to “Das Rheingold,” which returns at the end of the film. “Black Flies” is darkness and chaos on an operatic scale – maybe even a Wagnerian scale, though viewers may feel as if they’ve been assaulted by heavy metal rather than immersed in the warring gods of the Ring cycle.
Screening in the Main Competition at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, “Black Flies” is visceral and vicious. It is directed by French-born, New York-based Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire with an eye for the worst squalor NYC has to offer, and edited to be the...

Dustin Ferguson's Amityville: Evil Never Dies Features Return to Acting of Scream Legend Mark Patton
MoreHorror.com
Dustin Ferguson, director and creator of horror flicks and owner of cult-film status Old Skool Video rental store, has announced that Mark Patton, lauded as the first “male scream queen,” is continuing his return to acting as one of the stars of Ferguson's Amityville: Evil Never Dies.
The new film is a continuation of the “Amityville” horror series created by Ferguson and Mike Johnson. In their 2016 film "The Amityville Legacy,” a cursed antique toy monkey from the original DeFeo Amityville home, creates havoc and possesses a father after being gifted during an annual family reunion.
“Amityville: Evil Never Dies,” takes place one year after the events in "The Amityville Legacy." A young couple, played by Ben Gothier and Michelle Muir-Lewis, purchases the cursed toy monkey from the owner of a local antique shop, played by Patton. Unaware of the recent murders involving the toy, they bring it into their home,...

The films are an example of diminishing returns, but the collection is more than the franchise’s fans could have wished for.
There are rumors that Lionsgate’s fantastic Vestron Video line of remastered, supplement-filled Blu-rays celebrating horror films from the ’80s and ’90s may be closing up shop. It’s unconfirmed, and LG themselves have been mum on the subject, but it would be an unfortunate turn of events for genre fans if true. They’re only nine releases in, but already they’ve done tremendous work with fantastic new editions of fun classics like Chopping Mall, Waxwork, and The Gate.
Their most recent release, and possibly their last if the rumor proves true, is the four-film Wishmaster Collection. As someone who had never seen the first film and was utterly unaware that three sequels even existed this set offered a first-time watch across the board. So of course I binge-watched all four across a single...

"When the sons of the fallen came upon the daughters of men they bore the way of the wicked." An opening gambit that reads infinitely more interesting than the tagline for Kevin Carraway's latest low-budget horror movie. 'Evil Never Dies', anyone? Is that a fact? Well, as the filmmakers so eloquently put it, evil never dies but film careers do. Remember when Christian Slater was the epitome of cool? Now he's playing heroic priests in inexplicably dull horror movies. Remember when Vinnie Jones had the world at his feet? Ok, so that's a bit of a stretch, but Vinnie Jones stars alongside Slater in the straight-to-dvd feature that riffs on The Omen and Carrie. Here's a twist for you. Christian Slater plays a holier than thou priest and Vinnie Jones plays the part of a doting father. He's still a cop of course but the role of...

There’s an old expression that goes, “Evil never dies,” and never is that more true than if you’re in a horror sequel. So in that spirit, this fall we’ll be treated to the return of one horror cinema’s most beloved unstoppable killing machines, Chucky.
It’s been 25 years since the release of Child’s Play, the film that introduced us to Charles Lee Ray, a serial killer who cursed himself to possess a “Good Guy Doll” named Chucky after he was mortally wounded in a gun fight. Timely for this occasion, the latest Child’s Play movie, the sixth in the series, is being released to DVD this fall, and IGN and Bloody Disgusting have the first promotional shots from the film.
In Curse of Chucky, the possessed doll plagues a new group of innocent people. Brad Dourif returns as the voice of Chucky, while Dourif...

Well, I can.t believe it.s been almost a decade since graduating from drama school and almost a decade since I.ve done any further drama study. I mean, I.ve worked closely with dialect coaches over the years and privately with teachers preparing auditions, but in terms of flexing the muscle in a classroom environment I haven.t done much.
Having spent the last two pilot seasons in La, it.s incredible to see the commitment actors make to the evolution of their craft. It.s not unusual to find professional actors taking two classes a week alongside their usual filming or stage commitments. That.s before their regular voice class, Alexander class and weekly session with a therapist which, according to renowned American acting coach, Larry Moss, are a must.
It.s funny, but in my late-teens and early-20s I couldn.t get enough of everything .drama.. There was Atyp,...

I was never particularly thrilled about another entry into the Planet of the Apes series. The originals (there are five of them) kept the series alive for about 3.5 entries more than necessary. Tim Burton took a crack at a remake back in 2001 that failed in a breathtaking, spectacularly shitteriffic fashion. I had hoped, in all honesty, that it would just die there.
Not so much.
Truth be told, the news that trickled out a few months ago was actually somewhat positive. Writer and director Scott Frank, who wrote the underrated and highly entertaining Minority Report, was tasked with it. The project was a reboot of 1972's Conquest of the Planet of the Apes that would simply be called Caesar. Sci-Fi Squad described the concept thusly:
"...a dark and somber Planet of the Apes film that unraveled how genetic experimentation brought forth the simian uprising that made homo sapiens the minority on Earth.
