This is one of many films in a sub-par collection of animated shorts entitled "Avoid Eye Contact: Volume One". Like most of the shorts, this one did absolutely nothing for me and that's a real shame, as I usually love these sorts of compilations--having seen all three of The Animation Show DVDs, several Spike and Mike ones, collections of Canadian Film Board cartoons and many, many others. I really wanted to like this.

The five fables aren't really fables but mostly very smutty images usually involving oral gratification and/or bestiality. While I noticed some of the reviews were quite positive and the overall score is high, it just looks like some silly 5th graders made these himself to make his other young friends laugh at the sexual images--which, by the way, are amazingly hard-core. If you want to see these sort of sex acts, I advise you to just buy a video--at least that will provide some satisfaction. This one is just smutty, stupid and rather poorly drawn--hardly entertaining. Sure, it has shock value but so what? Shocking doesn't need to mean bad.

Signe Baumane's "Five F*cking Fables" is a dark and brilliant collection of animated stories. This film demonstrates a great use of animation since there is no earthly or legal way to show two people eating the umbilical cord of a baby they have just birthed. You'll find it horrifying and funny, a worthwhile combination.
