Touchdown Jesus, meet Oculus. Saturday’s matchup between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Michigan State Spartans, two of college football’s most venerable teams, will be broadcast in one of the newest formats: social virtual reality. Fox developed the experience, presented by Wendy’s, with LiveLike, which worked with the network to create the social Vr technology it debuted during this summer’s Concacaf Gold Cup soccer tournament. But this time, it’s coming to one of college football’s oldest – and often, one of its most exciting – rivalries, Notre Dame versus Michigan State, who clashed for the first time in 1897. The virtual.

Standing in line this week for my annual peppermint mocha latte at Starbucks, I realized that peppermint, unlike pumpkin spice, has its limitations as a holiday flavor. Peppermint beer, mashed peppermint potatoes, pretty much anything in the savory category seems less than immediately appealing (though I’m sure it’s been done, and done well). So Halloween and the fall season really chose a winner with pumpkin spice (its taste and smell are extremely effective triggers for nostalgic, overwhelming emotional memories). Peppermint is not bad, not by a long shot, but some things are just more easily adaptable to holiday theming. Which made me think about, you guessed it, holiday horror, Saint Patrick’s Day edition.

What should have been a sleepy ratings Sunday before Labor Day — no NFL games, no big scripted or unscripted TV events — was set aflame by a barnburner of a college football game, thanks to a two-overtime victory by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish over the University of Texas Longhorns. ABC’s telecast of Sunday evening’s Notre Dame-ut game garnered 10.46 million total viewers and a 3.0 in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic, according to early Nielsen estimates. Of course, that’s not a patch on most NFL games, which regularly double or triple that demo rating. But the NFL has long been.

Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck) is an unrepentant criminal, the de facto leader of a group of ruthless bank robbers who pride themselves in stealing what they want and getting out clean. With no real attachments, Doug never has to fear losing anyone close to him. But that all changed on the gang's latest job, when they briefly took a hostage–bank manager, Claire Keesey (Rebecca Hall). Though they let her go unharmed, Claire is nervously aware that the robbers know her name... and where she lives.

It looks like Rudy Ruettiger — the real-life sportsman whose life story inspired a 1993 film with Sean Astin tackling the part of the collegiate champ — has been hit in the head too many times with a football. David Anspaugh's movie tells the tale of a kid from a working-class family who struggles to play for the Fighting Irish at Notre Dame. Now the real-life Rudy faces a different set of challenges, since the Securities and Exchange Commission has uncovered an investment scam in which the footballer deceived people into buying stock in his sports drink. A report from the SEC detailed the scheme. "Ruettiger founded Rudy Nutrition to compete with Gatorade in the sports drink market. Rudy Nutrition produced and sold modest amounts of...

Whether you were a kid who would have gladly suffered a million bee stings to date Veda Sultenfuss, or wished that you too could live in a funeral home and have Jamie Lee Curtis as your stepmom, it’s probably a relief to see My Girl star Anna Chlumsky looking hot and happy on the red carpet of The Iron Lady premiere in New York last night. A child actor who didn’t end up rehab or taking off her underwear for money calls for a nostalgia celebration! So what’s Anna been up to since My Girl 2, the film’s almost as satisfying sequel? Since we last saw her sobbing over her mood ring, Chlumsky:

Josh Brolin loves him some deformed hero. First it was sorry faced Jonah Hex, and now Quasimodo, the hero of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, not to be confused with the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. Ahem. The film would see Brolin teaming up with Tim Burton to develop, with Brolin starring and producing. Like previous versions, this “Hunchback” would also be based on the 1831 novel by Victor Hugo, with screenwriters Kieran and Michele Mulroney (“Sherlock Holmes 2″) adapting for the big screen. Although, with Burton knee-deep in the “Dark Shadows” movie at the moment, it’ll probably be a while yet before “Hunchback” comes to pass.

Now that we are right in the middle of another football season, I thought it would be nice to find a few football movies to recommend to you, so here are five that will get you excited.
Two for the Money: A star-college football player, at the top of his game, blows out his knee and finds himself looking for a new profession. He decides to become sports betting consultant as he gives inside info about the teams, players, and trends. Al Pacino and Matthew McConaughey make this movie a really fun sports-drama to watch.
Any Given Sunday: The film makes you realize the actual lives of the real modern-day gladiators with drugs, money, and women, while actually battling every week to make to the title. At the end, Al Pacino realizes how much he hates the business and how on Any Given Sunday any team can beat another in football.

Joe Montana has some issues with the way his former college team was portrayed in "Rudy" -- because the former Notre Dame superstar just insinuated Rudy Ruettiger was more of a joke than an inspiration. Montana -- who played on the 1975 Fighting Irish squad with Ruettiger -- appeared on DirecTV's Dan Patrick Show this morning and said of the flick, "It's a movie remember ... not all that's true." After a dismissive sigh, Montana undermined some...

Taylor Swift has watched Notre Dame won its first game of the football season and celebrated the win with another young Hollywood. After witnessing the Fighting Irish crushed the Purdue Boilermakers 23-12 on Saturday, September 4, the country star took Selena Gomez and younger brother Austin to a local restaurant for a bite.
An eyewitness told Ok! magazine, "She had dinner after the game in a corner booth with two bodyguards blocking off the table at Rocco's in South Bend, Indiana." When they were done with the meal, the "Mine" hitmaker along with Selena and Austin "were quickly escorted out between the two bodyguards to an awaiting car."
Before making the exit, the 20-year-old singer was seen turning around and thanking Notre Dame football fan who shouted, "I love you Taylor." Her dining friends Selena and Austin, on the other hand, reportedly hurried out of the restaurant. "Her brother looked embarrassed...

Chicago – With only a few tweaks to last year’s very successful edition, “Ncaa Football 11” maintains the franchise’s pole position as the best sports title available. “Madden NFL” is a great game. So are “Mlb The Show,” “NBA 2K,” “FIFA,” and “Tiger Woods PGA Tour.” “Ncaa Football” wins by a field goal.
Video Game Rating: 4.5/5.0
Real-world college football has risen to a point where it’s as dramatically rich as a Hollywood sports movie. Last year, there was rarely a weekend when an underdog didn’t topple a ranked team and it usually happened with unexpected performances from unheralded future stars. How could a college football video game possibly live up to the drama of the actual thing? The team behind “Ncaa Football 11” have found a way to take a medium that uses a “controller” and still make it feel spontaneous, enjoyable, and “uncontrolled.”

Fighting Irish - Most appropriate on this Saint Patrick.s Day week, the Irish lass decided to make a move. Siobhan showed us she was not ready to relinquish the Idol crown to Crystal so early in the competition. This week was their first on the big stage. Most of the contestants stepped it up. I still hate the introduction of the judges and they walk out on the stage before taking their seats. Not necessary.
Tonight our contestants were singing from the songbook of the Rolling Stones.
Let.s break it down from the Best to the rest.

Whether you’re Irish or not, it’s time to put on a plastic green hat, bust out that Guinness and make friends with that toilet seat like it’s the Blarney stone.
And in case you need a little bit of help, here’s 7 badass Irish-themed movies to get you in the mood for the festivities.
